Grand View Lodge garners praise for its immaculate grounds and accommodations, with visitors frequently commending the resort's cleanliness. Many find the array of amenities and picturesque setting ideal for special events, enhanced by the convenience of a shuttle service. While the rooms and value proposition receive mixed reviews, citing occasional cleanliness issues and high costs, the service is generally celebrated for its warmth and professionalism. Despite some reports of outdated aspects, the resort's atmosphere is often described as tranquil and inviting, with a particularly charming outdoor fire area.

My family and I absolutely loved our stay at Grand View Lodge. We went off season, so several restaurants were closed or had limited hours, but I understand why it is recommended as a top resort to visit, everything was top notch. To give it a proper review, I'll break my review into several parts.

Accommodations: We stayed at the Interlachen Townhomes which are few minutes south of the property. The cabins are huge, kitchens are updated with stainless steel appliances and fully stocked. I even saw a large crockpot in ours! We didn't end up cooking, but it would be a great kitchen if we stayed for longer than a few days. Our property was also lake front which was amazinggg! Nothing like waking up and seeing the lake and taking 20 steps to the beach!
We also loved that there were fire pits, free wood, wood carts, and grills. Also there were several kayaks and paddle boards on the beach that you could just use to hop on. It was easier than heading up to the main property to rent kayaks.

Food: I was actually really impressed with the food. Often resort restaurants aren't that great. However, our experience at Grand View was perfect On the first night we ordered pizza and salads for pick up and the food was great. The pizza didn't taste like cardboard and the salad was more than just lettuce and dressing haha! On the second night we ate at Char and everyone was really delicious. My husband ordered a medium steak and it was cooked and seared perfectly!

Covid Note: I also wanted to make a note about their current Covid policies. I was impressed with the social distancing, we ate at On the Rocks on their patio and it was great. We typically haven't eaten indoors, but decided to do so at Char. We were happy that everyone was wearing masks and all the patrons were sufficiently spaced more than 6 feet apart.

To summarize: We will definitely be back!

My family and I did a long weekend at Grandview. It was a very fun and memorable stay. We rented a cabin by the golf course. Cabin 585. The cabin was incredibly nice and new. We had 5 adults and 2 young kids. We had more than enough space. The cabin alone kept us entertained. The cabins basement was full of entertainment. It had a shuffle board table, pool table and cork board darts. Plus two tv’s, a mini bar and bar top table. When the young kids went down the adults would hang out down there. The cabin had very nice bed rooms and bathrooms. We did not utilize the sun room area since it was very cold outside. I can see that being a nice space for spring, fall, or summer. It had a large TV, fireplace and a big table with chairs. We mainly visited Grandview to bring the boys swimming and they had a good time doing that. There were 2 indoor pools. A newer one with an indoor slide and another one near the lake with an indoor slide. Our oldest even liked the outdoor hot tub. It was fun being in it while it snowed. We did some outdoor activities such as sledding, snow shoeing, and we took a ride on a horse drawn cart. All included with our stay. If you bring your supplies before you arrive I would bring paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher soap, and laundry soap. Those were not included. We didn’t bring this but a short drive to the grocery fixed this. Utilize the free shuttle too. Simply dial zero on the phone and they come and pick you up. We did this every morning for breakfast. We had a great time and we may have to make this an annual stay before busy season.

We had never been to the area but wanted a quiet getaway where we could feel comfortable during a pandemic. Grand View was perfect- outside dining, not crowded, staff took cleaning and masks seriously and we could do outside activities. We had a great time on the lake and would definitely recommend it.

I spend 4th of July weekend in cabin 243, which is a newly build cabin and attached to a larger 2 bedroom via adjoining doors. The buildings are in great shape and still had that new home smell, but there were several things that added up to big misses, most of which would be quick and easy fixes for this resort.

Walking up to the cabin there was grass left all over the sidewalk. I thought maybe they just cut it and someone would be coming through with a blower, but this was not the case.

There were no towel racks in the bathroom next to the sink. This meant either taking up counter space by leaving your towel on it or putting a wet towel into a cubby below the counter as opposed to allowing it to dry on a towel rack that positions it perfectly for use.

The lighting in the living area is very poor, especially when you’re trying to use the kitchenette.

There was no outlet on the back wall of the kitchenette. The only outlet above the counter was behind the microwave. There was a coffee maker plugged into that. So, if you wanted to use the provided toaster or use a blender, you had to pull out the microwave and unplug it and/or the coffee maker. Alternatively, you could use the floor, which is what we did. There was an outlet in one of the cabinet spaces, but that was impractical and served no functional purpose.

The worst offense in my mind was that the provided dishes were dirty. It was as if the previous occupants had taken their dirty dishes, a few of which had been rinsed off, and just put them away in the cabinet and housekeeping never checked to see if they were actually clean. I discovered this on the second day, after I had been using a couple plates and silverware. The dishes in the included pictures were the ones I pulled out of the cabinet, and that’s what they looked like!

The rest of the resort and the beach area was great. These misses won’t prevent me from coming back to Grandview Lodge, but I do hope management can address these issues.

This was our 3rd time comming here for chrismas it is wonderful everyone treats you like family and the rooms are very comfortable. We went on the american plan so breakfast buffet and dinner were included which is great if you are planing on just eating there but if you are running around and figure on eating other places it isn't worth it. we are there to relax and to unwind so that is why we use the plan.

Stayed here June 11 and 12 in the main lodge in a king studio for 2 nights. We brought our 2 dogs (who slept in our vehicle overnight - the weather was cool enough for them to be safe). The grounds are immaculate with newly planted flowers everywhere. Staff was kind and accommodating. Beach chairs lined up on the beach neatly every day; Kayaks and paddleboards are available for free use (resort fee covers this). Our dogs were allowed on the beach and swam both days multiple times. We had dinner at "On the Rocks" which was outdoor dining - very good. We rode bikes all over the property, it was just such a fun and relaxing weekend. Would definitely stay again.

I took my son here in late July and our experience was mixed. The grandview cabins are super outdated and are in desperate need of refurbishment, look like they haven’t been updated in 20+ years. That being said, they are in a lovely wooded setting with great views of the lake. Since these are the highest priced accommodations at Grandview, it would make sense to update these before recently updated linden cottages that are set back from the lake. Many of the usual summer activities weren’t happening anymore because of Covid which is understandable, but they are still charging an 8% resort fee which is ridiculous. In my opinion, this fee should be waved this summer because of activities not available (water slides, game room, water balloons etc).

We ate at the cantina and on the rocks several times, food at cantina was ok, on the rocks was excellent. Eat at On the Rocks as much as you can, the atmosphere is wonderful and the food is delicious. I have eaten here in years past and it is much better this year for some reason.

We liked that they still are doing bingo by the pool and they are still offering banana tubing although that didn’t look too socially distanced to me so we skipped it.

We weren’t comfortable eating inside so we opted for takeout breakfast from the dining room and ate outside by the shuffle board area and that was perfect.

We love Grandview and still continue to vacation here, mostly for nostalgic reasons, but I have to say the overall value is not great. Grandview is extremely expensive for what you get, especially in the summer.

We stayed Feb 10th and 11th, 2023 with our two grand kids and had a terrible time. Our grand kids never want to go back to this place. The problem is the two pool areas. Absolutely no staff supervision in either pool area. None of the rules being followed. It was actually dangerous for our grand kids to be in the pool area. The pool was overrun by rowdy teenagers who would go down the water slides in large groups, 3 to 4 kids on top of each other at a time. Never waiting until the younger kids like our grand kids cleared the bottom of the water slide. This happened both nights. Friday the 10th at the North park pool and Saturday the 11th at the lakeside pool. 3 young kids working the North park pool on Friday night that never got out from behind their desk unless they brought in clean towels, otherwise they were on their phones the whole time. The kid on Saturday night never got off his phone. Also on Friday night at the North park pool there were two large groups of teenage boys playing football in the pool. Pretty much took over half of the pool area with the throwing of footballs all night long.

This is not acceptable and is dangerous. Our grand kids picked Grand View over Craguns because of the water slides. They were very disappointed and want to go back to Craguns next year.

Why have pool rules if nobody is going to enforce them? Just a circus at the pools. The only time the grand kids had any fun at the pools was Saturday morning right after the Lake side pool opened because the teen ages were still sleeping in. This lasted until about 1:00 until the teen ages showed up.

To top it all off I had filled out a review and brought this attention to Grand View and actually got a call from one of the Front Desk Managers a couple of days later who apologized and said he was going to remove the Resort fee for both nights from our charge. He also said he was going to handle the situation and would copy me on the correspondence that he was going to have with the pool staff and his managers. That was almost two weeks ago now and have not seen any reimbursement or any emails.

Until they take are of the Circus and no staff supervision and enforcement of pool rules do not bring your young kids to this place unless you have teenagers that you want to just let go with no supervision.

On a friend's recommendation we stayed here for the Grand Brewfest, which takes place at Grand View Lodge each November. We had a great time at the tasting event, complete with food pairing.

From the event website: This fun filled weekend started in 2010 when the rise in craft beer was gaining momentum. The event is Grand View's craft beer and culinary weekend to pay homage all of our state's finest breweries.

My husband and I rented a cabin on Roy Lake which was the perfect size for the two of us. The cabin had a fireplace, a deck, 1-1/2 bathrooms and a nice big bathtub. We didn't plan to cook but the kitchen certainly seemed functional. It was very clean and cozy. I'm looking forward to returning! NOTE: There's a distilled event in April that I'm thinking about already...

Our stay included the breakfast buffet at the main lodge. It was OK, nothing I'd pay for if it wasn't included. Apparently the cinnamon rolls are legendary, but that really isn't my thing. My husband enjoyed one and assured me it was worth the carbs.

The free shuttle between our cabin and the lodge made getting around VERY easy. The drivers were friendly and made the stay that much more awesome.

My wife and I choose Grand View Lodge as our destination for an anniversary weekend getaway. The place has an abundance of charm. The main check in was the original lodge I believe and it is over 100 years old. The front desk staff were great. Very friendly and explained everything including the safety protocols for Covid-19. They made sure all questions were answered. We had a room directly across the street from the main lodge which was convient for walking over to the restaurant, pub and coffee shop. The room was very clean and had a nice gas fireplace and a huge walk-in shower with a double vanity. The lights on the porch did not work, along with the phone. I went and told the front desk and they had the lights working on the porch when we got back from dinner. The phone never got repaired.
The issues and opportunities we unfortunately experienced were as follows:
The food is not up to the image the resort portrays. The breakfast tasted liked liquid eggs and canned gravy. Sometimes that is what it is but the hardest part was the lack of service. We were seated the first night at the pub in what looked like the hallway. Service was very slow to where we waited so long it was frustrating. You still can't sit at the bar here. All restaurants, including the pub, require reservations which are simple to make. The next morning we made reservations for breakfast (which we paid to have included). We arrived and were seated quickly but then sat there for another 15 minutes before we were acknowledged by a server. This was confusing because there were only 4 tables at the time of our visit. I loved my pancakes but my wife's eggs were not cooked all the way. To get the server over to correct the issue was the struggle. After breakfast, we decided to walk down to the beach and get a view of the lake but the black bugs were so bad we could hardly see or talk. These bugs will also cover your front porch at night and then die and cover your porch when you leave in the morning.
I would love to maybe give them another shot in the summer once they get more staff and eat options open but for now it seems like they struggle. Service at all of our dining experiences was beyond bad. I am sure they are trying but it just ruins the whole experience and unfortunately this is one of those things you remember when chosing the next trip. As I said in the title "Perhaps the right place at the wrong time".

I believe you can rent them for free at the Waterfront desk (same place where you can check out paddleboards, kayaks, life jackets, etc), but probably worth a call to verify since it is after Labor Day. They used to have pontoon fishing trips for a few hours but those are cancelled due to COVID.
