My husband and I stayed in the Amelia room. The previous reviews of this room were spot on. The bed is uncomfortable and very squeaky. While laying in bed we could hear conversations in the lobby and when the phone rang it was like it was ringing in the room, so I only imagine the people in the lobby heard...

This place is great! Rooms are cozy, Victorian/old English style. The surroundings were just magical - real wood fire places (awesome in the winter) gave off smoky warm smell, my husband and I sat in front of one in the morning and ate our breakfast. The breakfast was wonderful! (homemade apple pastries, scones, also had French crusty bread, fruit, cereal,...

We have just returned from our stay at the Outing Lodge. Celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary, we stayed in the Bob Dylan room and received a bottle of wine and truffles as a part of a "Romance package". The room featured a gas fireplace that kept the room very toasty, a Jacuzzi that allowed a comfortable & relaxing bath and...

While this lodge is out of the way, I feel like it should be as it is a very nice getaway. The Robert Frost room that we stayed in had a very uncomfortable bed, but excellent pillows...The room itself was very nice and large. It takes a while for hot water to run, but you are given fair warning of...

I am so confused by the reviews that rave about this place and especially the Eva Perone Room. The room was so old, tattered, tired and UN-charming. The bathroom tiles were broken, the shower had a strong odor of mold covered up by bleach, the sink was cracked and "fixed" with a really bad patch job, no chance of getting...

My husband and I spent a night at the Outing Lodge and enjoyed ourselves very much. The ground are very large and the building itself has a lot of charm. We weren't able to tour the grounds as it is winter, but there appear to be lots of interesting hiking trails. Our room was comfortable and cozy and we enjoyed...

We were looking so forward to spending the night and attending the English Christmas. Our room was large and comfortable but bed was so hard my husband slept on the sofa. The dinner was the most disappointing. Ambiance was excellent, wine, champagne, and appetizers were the best. My lobster salad had no dressing on it, several others had very little,...

The Outing Lodge is unique, remote, and on beautiful grounds. There are amazing trails for skiing or hiking and the awesome, huge fireplace in the main room is worth the trip in itself. Staff was kind and welcoming. Some of the negative reviews on here perhaps show that this place isn't for everyone - if you want to watch TV,...

My husband and I enjoyed a nice night away from our kids. We sat by their huge fireplace in the main room to play games. They offer a good selection. There is cable TV in the room and we brought a DVD to watch and that worked well. There is not much of a selection that they offer. Our room...

My husband and I were there last Sunday night. We stayed in the Robert Frost room. Very nice and bright room. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The fireplace kept the room nice and toasty while the rest of the house was a bit cold and drafty. When we were there we had just had a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
19th Century History Preserved at the Outing Lodge European style 19th century country home, surrounded by lawns and gardens with 300 acres of wooded park land ~ a place where people would go to get away from modern city life. Pine Point was founded in 1858 as Minnesota's second "poor farm," a home for the chronically indigent or those temporarily down on their luck. Stillwater was a wealthy community in 1850, the territorial capital. In this abundant atmosphere, a desire to help the less fortunate culminated in the construction of this poor farm. The prize-winning dairy farm became both a home and a workplace to thousands of needy for almost 100 years. When the farm was closed in 1957, the land was planted in pine trees, now Pine Point Park. The house went on for 20 years as a Rest Home. In the 1980s, to save it from proposed demolition, Lee Gohlike began its renovation. He gutted its interiors with a reverence for its historic past: wide-planked wooden floors cut from old pine beams provide a perfect backdrop to the many elegant antique furnishings, numerous candelabra and massive fireplaces. Featured in Midwest Traveler, Star Tribune and other local & national publications, this beautiful Georgian home is a destination for exclusive retreats & events. Guests enjoy cross-country skiing, horseback and biking trails connecting to the Metro system. Theme dinner calendar of events. ... more   less
