I cancelled a booking I had with another place in Waskesiu when this place was so close to where others in our party were staying. I was given a reasonable quote and guaranteed one of the renovated cabins. All seemed great until we went to check out. My husband paid the bill which was well beyond what was quoted before we left the premises. When we inquired about the price difference the response was: we had left the cabin in such a mess it took 3 extra hours to clean the place!! Interesting how they would know that when we paid before leaving. Interesting how it would take 3 extra hours when we cleaned the fridge, washed the dishes, swept the carpets and flooring, all towels were in the tub and bedding left as they requested, garbage collected in one bag (left inside the door to prevent animals from getting into it) and the deck furniture put back just as it was when we arrived. Interesting how they would not honor the original quote even when it was presented to them. Beware!!!!

In July my friend and I stayed for five nights at the Hillcrest which is the motel section of Armstrong Hillcrest cabins. We were in a corner unit next to some cabins. The deck faced Waskesiu Drive with a barbecue to share with two other units. Parking was right in front. It was very clean, freshly painted walls and wood flooring. There were two small bedrooms (a double bed in each) with a futon in the living room area. The futon was not comfortable to sit on. We found the beds and pillows quite comfortable and had restful nights. The bathroom was very nice, modern, clean, with a combo tub/shower. Kitchenette had a large fridge and two burner hotplate. One burner worked great and the other was used to keep things warm. Kettle, coffee maker and toaster were supplied as well as dishes, cutlery, a few pots and pans, etc. There was enough provided so we were able to cook several meals and used the bbq. A microwave or toaster oven would have been handy. Towels, blankets and linens were supplied. I walked to the office daily to exchange towels and get other supplies as needed. The lady at the office was welcoming and friendly. We chatted for a few minutes every day. I had no problems with the wifi and got strong signals. There were maybe ten channels on TV including CTV Regina, History, Teletoons, AMC, a movie channel and a few sports stations. I did a Google search and found the website with information about the different motel/hotel units available. Rates are quoted online, based on two occupants. I also emailed for information. Two bedroom units are limited so book early. Also note that there is a one level motel section (where we stayed) and a section that has two floors. I would stay at Hillcrest Motel again if I could get the same unit. It was a relaxing, comfortable and a perfect location - very close to a laundromat, stores, shops, lake front, the beach.

Sure it's older and maybe a bit run down, but you're in an expensive resort town so it's just fine. Rustic is the way to describe it. My wife and I stayed 2 nights in the motel at the end of June and it was just fine. It may have helped that we had no neighbors and still before July 1 & the crazy summer season. We did get daily visits from a squirrel which liked the peanut butter I fed him as well as elk which slept a few hours each day underneath a stairwell right beside us - 50' feet away. We've stayed here a few years ago when we stayed at a 2 bedroom cabin with another couple. Both times clean comfortable beds at at a reasonable (for a resort town) price. Pay the $250-350 night if you must but if you want accommodations that are clean and comfortable this might be what you want.

I selected one "dot" as I don't think it would allow me to select none. After begging my boss for a couple days off and driving for 5 hours we arrived to find that our reservation that had been written in the high tech "scribbler" had been lost. After insisting that it be reviewed again it was finally found complete with our name, address and credit card number. All clear as a bell and totally unsecured. Apparently the original information was not transferred to the "current" scribbler that was supposed to keep track of the reservations. Bottom line is we didn't have accommodation and there was not a vacancy to be had anywhere in town. This resulted in an hour drive back to Prince Albert for a hotel room. Thanks a lot Hillcrest.... Thanks a lot.
