This was our first trip to Waskesiu. This hotel was average. We got the spa room. There is no wi-fi at this hotel in the rooms. We did get a very weak signal because we were above the lobby. The lobby is the only place with wi-fi and it is poor also. Do not expect to be able to do work while away. The room was clean. If you stay more than one night there will be a $25 charged to have your cleaned during your stay. If you want your sheets changed it will be $10. We did appreciate the balcony off of the room. The hot tubs can not be used due to COVID. The staff were friendly.

Stayed 4 nights in March during fantastic weather to get a great taste of winter in the park without winter temperatures.

We had a Lakefront room booked but discovered that room didn’t have a fridge and with practically nothing open in the park food wise we needed to haul a bunch of food with us so for $20 a night more we booked the Executive Room instead. For us there were two bonuses to this room, the fridge and, wait for it, snacks! Also we weren’t aware there was a continental breakfast, choice of 3 items each, so every morning we’d trudge down to collect our 14 items!! (See pic for one days worth of food and snacks)

The hotel itself was nice, not luxury, not a dive. You get what you pay for, a decent room in a great location. Staff was friendly and responsive. The hotel is obviously somewhat dated and tired but seems to be mostly maintained well. We went mid-week so the place was pretty quiet. We’d definitely consider it in what I presume is very busy summertime. Good stay.

We stayed at Hawood Inn for a fall getaway. We had never stayed in Waskesiu before. We had a very relaxing time with walks by the lake and seeing some of the local wildlife.

We booked a King room so we did not have a view of the lake (not a big deal), the room was quiet with direct access to the back parking lot and our vehicle (great for unpacking the vehicle). The room was spacious with a fridge and coffee maker. The furniture is somewhat dated but the room was clean.

The hotel has lots of stairs and does not have an elevator. I believe there are a few rooms that do not require stairs. If stairs are an issue, I would call the hotel directly and be sure to specify this when making your reservation.

There is a large roof top patio with 2 large hot tubs, 2 fire tables and plenty of seating. We really enjoyed the hot tubs but did have to climb stairs.

We had all our meals in the hotel restaurant, all were very good. All the servers were very friendly with fast service. We did not have to wait long for our meals. The view made our meals relaxing with all the fall colours.

We would stay at Hawood Inn again for another fall getaway.

The Hawood Inn is a lovely winter hideaway with very warm and friendly front desk staff, Rhonda and Monica, who are very accommodating and ensure their guests have a pleasant stay. The rooms are spotless and have all the amenities required for comfort, including Keurig coffee and tea options. The beds are very comfortable with crisp linens and cozy duvet coverings. We decided to forgo our annual February trip to Mexico in order to take in some winter experiences and picked the Hawood Inn as one of our alternate destinations. This hotel offers very reasonable rates for a winter wonderland experience amidst one of the most amazing landscapes in Canada, the Prince Albert National Park! The view from our lakeside room was beautiful. The winter scene outside was spectacular as the snow fell on the evergreens overlooking the lake… I wish I had taken a picture, alas I did not. The memory will have to do until the next time we visit this beautiful "almost" hidden gem.

Wifi is only available in the hotel lobby and the hotel restaurant is pretty pricey. But the room is beautiful and look freshly updated. The heater is very effective and, quick. A strange observation, but after a day out in almost winter Waskasui conditions, it was so appreciated. The staff is pleasant, and one young man in particular manning the front desk went out of his way to accommodate requests for us. The only thing I would change is the room pricing; their 'on season' prices were still in effect, even though it is clearly the 'off season' (even stated by more than one desk employee).

We stayed in one of the condos.
Rate was $305.00 per night plus taxes.
I will start by saying the room was dated but clean and the beds were ok.

There was no coffee in the room which we thought was just an oversight.
My daughter called the front desk and argued for 15 minutes to get 4 pods of coffee, apparently coffee doesn’t come with the $305.00 per night accommodation!
We were told that guests need to supply their own coffee!
Really...! even a cheap motel 6 room comes with coffee!

Next was the fire log fiasco...the one that was in the room must have been damp. I tried lighting it 3 times but it kept going out.
We called the front desk to get another log.
Again after another 15 minutes of arguing the guy finally brought up another fire log.
The next day I went down to pick up a log for that evening and was informed that because he had given us a log to replace the one that wouldn’t light on the previous evening we weren’t allowed to have another one.
Unbelievable...I asked to speak with the owner when she came in later.
Instead a supervisor came up and spoke to us and basically reiterated what the front desk guy said.
I tried to explain that if the first fire log had lit we would not have asked for the replacement.
After another 15 minute discussion it was determined that because the first guy did not ask for the unusable fire log back the night before that we would now be allowed to actually have the daily fire log which we should have been entitled to anyway.
Both of these simple issues could have been and should have been resolved in 3 minutes.
Instead of taking care of the guests concerns like almost any other place would do, it has led to a scathing review not to mention that we will be informing our family and friends to never stay at this property.
I sure hope the owner reads this review and has a very serious discussion with these employees.
If this is how guests are treated I can’t imagine this property staying open in the future.

The Hawood Inn is a wonderful hotel, with comfortable beds and excellent food. The chef is most skilled and pays attention to imaginative presentation. In the dining room Sid was our server and we were always glad to see his friendly face. He added to the enjoyment of the dining experience. The gentleman (?Navdeep Singh) frequently at the desk and always carrying the desk phone made us feel extremely welcome. He helped us navigate our hunt for The Northern Lights, showed me how to put on cross country skis and how to determine correct sized snow shoes, all the while taking hotel calls. We had made reservations with him and he seemed to know us by our voice. He was so kind in finding us a beautiful room when we arrived a day earlier than registered for. Now I have my favorite room at The Hawood. This is an excellent place to choose to stay because of the staff. They made our visit to Canada so memorable. (I’ve never written a review before and I read the tip about being honest so I will share the hotel does not have an elevator so ask for a first floor room if needed)

We came up to Waskesiu Lake for the afternoon to check out the National Park, its wildlife and hopefully grab some lunch. The Hawood was the only open place we found. I had the $12 Grilled Cheese Sandwich, it was positively the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had. The bread was delicious and the cheese was a perfect blend. My wife had the $17 Club Sandwich, she let me have a quarter of it and we both agree it was fantastic. We did not expect this kind of meal at this sleepy off season area. So we stuck around and tried the Homemade Cheesecake for $9.50. Good choice, great finish to our meal. Our server was really nice and the prices were reasonable, especially considering they were the only game in town.

Not at all handicap friendly. Of the two entrances one has steps and the main one has an uneven surface and no automatic doors. There are a few rooms on the main floor (no elevator to the second floor) but none of them have bathrooms/showers etc. with grab bars and some on the main floor are accessed with three steps. The sheets and beds were great. The main floor bathroom stung of urine.

We headed to Waskesiu last month to spend some time with my brother in law and sister in law. We opted to book an "Executive Suite" at the Hawood Inn.
The extra cost was for balcony, lake view and snacks. I paid extra for a third in the room.
Not knowing, it was a 2 story walk up and my mother in law of 80 years old had a bit of difficulty. When we got to the room, we were thinking a separate room and an extra bed, however it was just an ordinary 2-Queen room. The snacks were 2 pringles, 2 robes, 2 OJ and 2 water for 3 people.
Checkin was great - the person at the front desk was warm and friendly, however the room description needs to be updated as does the room, it had a smell, two dirty chairs and nothing "executive" about it!
Overall, the stay was pleasant as we pretty much only slept there, but . . .
