Hyatt Place St Paul / Downtown is lauded for its spacious rooms with high ceilings and a blend of historic charm and contemporary design, providing guests with a clean and fresh environment. The hotel's convenient location earns praise, though the parking situation has been a point of contention.
While the friendly staff often receive commendations, some visitors have had less satisfactory encounters. Guests enjoy the quality breakfast, but opinions on the value, particularly considering parking costs and service, are mixed.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel is located on lower town St. Paul. Great location if you are going to a MN Saints baseball game, attending a wedding at The Union Depot, visiting the large farmers market, wanting choices for great restaurants. We felt safe and taken care of. The rooms are modern and quite large with a sectional sofa, the ceilings are high and makes the room feel spacious. There is a great free breakfast in the morning. Really good, lots of options. Parking is $16 a day/night right across the street or valet parking for $32 a night. I say park yourself being it’s so close.

We stayed at this hotel on a recent weekend vacation in the Twin Cities. The building is unique and I was told it was previously the post office. I had a king room on a high floor that was very large with 15 foot ceilings. The room was quiet, well appointed and the bed very comfortable. I used the small exercise room that had ellipticals, treadmills and dumbbells. We didn't use the restaurant so I can't comment on that. The staff was reasonably friendly and efficient. The hotel does not have its own self parking, but we parked in a ramp across the street that was convenient and reasonably priced. The room rate for this hotel was very inexpensive for the location, room size and quality. The entrance doors require a room key for entry and there is a guard. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in St. Paul.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel in a classic old building. Location is very convenient to the train station and downtown. Parking is valet only, but we parked in the lot across the street which we found to be less expensive and less of a hassle. Our room was gigantic and had amazing huge windows, and was spotless and in great condition. The staff we encountered were for the most part extremely friendly and professional. Breakfast food was above average (including steel cut oats, fresh fruit including pineapple, yogurt with nuts, granola, and dried fruit), and the breakfast area was very well organized and maintained. Best of all for us - the thick walls of the classic building meant a wonderful quiet sleep! You could hear a distant low rumble from the occasional train across the street, but this did not bother us, and nothing at all from other guests. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful historic Post-Office building next to restored St. Paul Depot train station - loved the edge of downtown location. This hotel is part of a larger building of condos and has unique rooms which are large, newly restored, clean with friendly staff and easy access to walk or drive/highways. Beautiful walk/exercise along the riverfront (when the weather is good - ha). If the streets are too quiet for you, during M-F be sure to go up into the 2nd story skyway system where there are lots of work folks on the move and food/etc. For several years now we've been happily staying in quieter St. Paul instead of Minneapolis when coming to visit friends and family in TC.

After an evening of hell we decided to book another hotel after being told we didn't have a room available at the double tree. We placed a reservation online and arrived at the hotel. We were greated at the front desk by Paul who I will be sending a personal hand written thank you to his manager for making our night.
We spoke to Paul and explained our situation and he told us about how a similar thing happened to him and he was kind and caring and showed understanding. He put us in a conor room on the 4th floor that was emaculate inside. Paul purchased us each a drink to ease the situation and assured us we were in good hands.
This hotel is beautiful with very hight ceilings that were at least 20 feet in hight. The giant curtains made you feel as if you were in a castle and brought in lots of natural light. The view was great and the room was spotless. The room was very spacious and had a seating area with a mini fridge that was so cold it would make an Eskimo blush. The bathroom was large with lots of room and the hot water was actually hot not like some hotels that claim they have hot water till you turn it on and some luke warm solution dribbles out the shower head.
The bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. There is parking across the street fot 5 to 10$ and they do offer valet parking. The building is very secure keeping out those who are not staying at the hotel and the hotel offers free breakfast if you wake up before 10am and check-out is at noon.

This is a lovely, classy hotel with huge rooms with lovely high ceilings. There are apartments smaller than these rooms. The beds were comfortable, things were clean and fresh. My only complaint with the room was poor lighting in the bathroom for makeup application, but that seems to be the hotel rule these days.
The daily breakfast was “meh”…powdered eggs and turkey bacon were distinctly unappetizing. There was fresh fruit and breads available and on one day, boiled eggs were available. Coffee was Minnesota style-weak. Stay away from the individual containers of creamer-one two separate occasions, there were several that were curdled and sour.
That being said, the breakfast would not prevent me from staying there again. This was a lovely place to stay for our 3 night stay while attending a family wedding.

I stayed two nights at this hotel last weekend. The room was ENORMOUS. It's one of the largest hotel rooms I've seen. The ceilings were around 20 ft. I loved the character of the historic building. It was a former post office.
The staff were so friendly. My friend and I loved Clare, the bartender on Saturday night. The bartender on Friday night was very friendly and kind too.
The location was good - lots of restaurants and bars within a ten minute walk. The beds and pillows were comfortable and I didn't hear any noise from the street or the hall. Breakfast was fresh fruit, sausage links, eggs, hashbrowns, and french toast sticks. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay again.

The staff was very friendly upon arrival and throughout my 5 night stay. My room was cleaned regularly without me having to do any type of special request. I had stayed in other hotels in the Minneapolis area where I was told that my room would be cleaned every 3rd day but it was not. The breakfast was fine. It had selections for the healthy minded individuals and a good hot breakfast. The laundry room was equipped with two pairs of washers and dryers for $1.75 cost for each use. The gym was very roomy and equipped with free weights, medicine balls, Lifestyle exercise equipment, fresh towels, drinking water. There was a small indoor pool in the 3rd floor. They had 4 meeting places where business meetings could be done with drinks and snacks provided by staff. There are several restaurants and bars walking distance of hotel.

The room architecture was great (King High Floor). Bathroom is large and wonderful with double sinks and large vanity. The phone was broken. The bed was old/lumpy. The couch was not great. No microwave. Housekeeping was great with towel replenishment, bed making and cleaning of room with exception of not replacing coffee daily. Scaled down breakfast service was well done and coffee was delicious. Parking is set-up for valet but no valet service, so getting in and out of garage was cumbersome and required staff assistance each time to get to garage/vehicle via elevator or get into garage via street - no pass key provided. Garbage in the parking garage starting to smell half way through the visit and was awful. Permeated through the garage and into the elevators. Location is directly across from bus depot and train depot, with sketchy people walking around building at any given time, especially at night. Did not feel safe outside building after around 8 pm. Actually had a strange man ask me if I needed a ride while standing at the intersection around 10pm on last night of visit. I have the feeling pre-Covid and building of depot, this was a great hotel. At the moment, not quite the standards of a normal Hyatt stay.

My husband and I were stranded in the Twin Cities due to a blizzard and we booked with Hyatt Place St. Paul simply due to its proximity to the train station (as we were going to take the train home). I'm so glad we did. The hotel is in a great location downtown with loads of food options. It is in a historic building that has many beautiful and unique design touches from the original 1920s. The lobby is enormous and filled with comfortable future and huge windows. We spent a few hours each day sitting in the lobby reading our books and loved it. We also swam each day in the small pool and used the gym equipment (which is state of the art - the video trails through various countries as you walk or ride rreally make your workout so much more fun!). Breakfast had a good variety but the prepared foods (French toast, waffles, eggs) were not very good. We didn't mind though because the cereal, oatmeal, bagels, and toast more than kept us satisfied. We loved the wide halls, enormous ceilings and windows, and the access to laundry (since our one night stay turned into six nights due to the weather). We will absolutely stay here again if we find ourselves in the area.

Washington DC, District of Columbia114 contributions36 helpful votes1. Can you open the window for fresh air in the room at all?
2. Are rooms clean or dusty from the old building?
3. Car you self park the car anywhere close by overnight?
1st. Question: No, you can not open the windows. There is an air conditioner that will cool down the room. 2nd. Question: The room we stayed in was spacious and beautiful. The remodeling you are speaking about. That work has been done years ago. This is a former Post Office Building. One section is the hotel the other section is condos. Your 3rd Question: About the parking we choose not to use their valet service as it is very pricy. But we found across the street a self-parking lot. It cost us only $5.00 a day. The times we parked at night we would get the ticket and bring that with us. We would pay for it when we left the self-parking garage the next day. Our car is locked up and leave nothing inside. The best part is when we left the garage to our hotel was across the street. My older sister was very happy. We came back to the same hotel in March & June. Because it was close to the Amtrack train station in St. Paul, MN. Not that far from our car rental. All in walking distance.
Well, K10 We stayed at this Hyatt Place Hotel in March 2023 and in June 2023. My older sister and I stayed at the Hyatt Place hotel and when we heard about the valet and the prices. She said No to the prices. That was expensive for our budget. We got our rental car which was within walking distance. Then before we did any errands we drove around the block to find a self-park. Lowertown Ramp, There is one right across the street. The building is Burgandy and Tan looks like an empty building but the parking lot is a self-park. You drive up and get a ticket. Keep the ticket and park anywhere. You use the stairs to get out of the building. Right in front of you is the Hyatt Place Hotel. They have their prices listed before you drive up. She liked the price and we stuck with this parking garage and never looked back. Then we came up again in June and did everything again. Used the same businesses"s again. Did more walking and visited the Farmers Market. Overall we would do it again. I hope this helps you K10.
