I had the loveliest time at the SPHotel. I initially booked 3 nights as I was in town visiting my mother, who is quite ill. Last minute, when I decided to book an additional 3 nights through a third-party website rather than directly on the SPHotel site, the front office manager was kind enough to let me stay in my same room rather than move out.
Everyone was so incredibly kind - the car valet/doormen, the front desk staff (especially Brian, he was wonderful!), the in-room dining deliverers, the SPGrill wait staff, and the house cleaning team were all extremely professional and extremely friendly.
What's more, the charm and beauty of the lobby as well as the dedication to retaining the hotel's lovely historical aesthetic was so very much appreciated. The beautiful decor (including the holiday decorations) was so nice to come "home" to every evening. Staying at the SP Hotel made a somewhat stressful stay not only tolerable, but very, very pleasant. I truly couldn't have picked a better option!

Stayed for a conference held at the hotel. I thought it was nice with pretty common areas (fireplace area could use a dust, but the fire is nice!). Loved the garden out front and the service from the bellmen. The rate was affordable in our room block, and the meeting facilities plus food and bev were all đź‘Ť
walkable to restaurants. No issues with noise in room. One of the nicer mini bars I’ve seen but very expensive of course. Cocktails and drinks in the restaurant bar were very exp too. The room cleanliness checked out; I liked that they had a separate bath rug in the sink area vs just the one for the shower. Room decor felt a bit outdated vs historic but since it was clean and affordable, no prob. Elevator situation slow at times. And not a lot of bathroom counter space in the room, but overall it was a fine stay!

I had a fantastic stay at The Saint Paul Hotel during my business trip. The accommodations were luxurious, and the location was perfect. The service exceeded my expectations—everyone was attentive and knowledgeable. With on-site restaurants, excellent valet service, and a friendly staff, this hotel truly has everything you need for a successful visit.
My room was incredibly comfortable, featuring blackout curtains, a well-equipped desk, and a cozy bed with soft pillows. The mini bar was fully stocked, adding to the convenience. The housekeeping team did an exceptional job, ensuring everything was spotless, and I appreciated the added touch of turndown service. I highly recommend this hotel if you find yourself in the area!

Gorgeous room, very quiet nights - even close to the elevator. Everything was clean and met expectations, except... is the thermostat even hooked up to anything? Didn't matter what we changed the setting to, it was 73 in the room. Had to open a window (which was a nice alternative to hitting the gym, btw) to keep the room at a tolerable temp. Shower drain apparently hasn't been snaked or liquid plum'r'ed since the building opened - standing in tepid greywater isn't the most refreshing way to start the day. And if you were to fix the steady stream of hot water - not a drip, a steady stream - in the bathroom sink, you could probably drop the rack rate by a few bucks a night. You guys are coasting on your reputation and your building, but neither are going to last very much longer if you don't start doing basic maintenance. C'mon man - I didn't drop $300 a night for a Motel 6 experience. Do better.

Cool historic downtown hotel. Parking is a challenge (as you'd expect for a property like this) but we scored a street space in the park across the street at a serendipitous time that didn't kill us with meter fees. Check-in was surprisingly unwelcoming. In-room dining was sub-par - I'd suggest trying the actual facilities or an alternate location. Room was clean, bed was comfy, bathroom was solid.

First off - the rooms are fantastic, luxe accomodations from top to bottom. The views can be iffy in general during the day but at night you can luck out and see some nice sights. In-room dining is quality, but you can get the same food downstairs and not have to pay the 18% charge, plus delivery fee, plus tax, plus tip...and the service is top notch at all restaurants. All that being said...the front desk staff needs more warmth...every time we approached the front desk, no one would make eye contact with us until we spoke, and even then, they were looking down while we spoke. When approaching the desk, they should be attentive to the person standing before them. It's really a put-off to feel like you are a secondary priority for the first and last point of contact for your stay.

Location cannot be beat for a downtown SP event and the Grille is reliably good, though rarely open for a hotel. The rooms are dated, dark and dingy, the front desk staff pretentious and rude. We asked for a minimally late checkout to grab breakfast off property since the restaurant was closed (hotel with no Sunday brunch??), to which the man replied, “there’s A team checking in.” It was more than implied the next guests were important than us. After grabbing breakfast a few blocks away, we ended up out a few minutes late anyway, and the lone housekeeper was still several rooms away. When I apologized we were a few minutes behind, the housekeeper said take your time—she was the kindest member of the staff.

Wanderlust, thank you for staying with us and submitting a review. I apologize for how you were treated, I am shocked and dismayed that this occurred. I cannot understand why these statements were made by staff members. We have a fabulous Sunday Brunch from 8:00 to 1:00 in the Drake every Sunday morning in addition to full breakfast service all other days of the week. My phone number is 651 592-0428 if you wish to share more, as we welcome any information that helps us improve.

We had been waiting a long time to be able to stay at the Saint Paul hotel, and we finally splurged on a staycation, to celebrate our engagement, and our first trip away together as a couple. When we arrived in the first room we stayed in, the furnishings were lovely and elegant, however, the room was hot and stuffy. We assumed that this would be remedied by us turning up the fan on the AC, and turning the AC down to as low as it could go, just to cool the room off. This did not help, and an engineer came up and said there was nothing he could do. When we talked to guest services the next day about the stuffy, uncomfortable night we had, and how much this had made our stay difficult, we were moved to an upgraded room on a lower floor that we were told was cooler. Once again, while the room furnishings were lovely, this upgrade ended up not really meaning anything because it was still hot and stuffy, and the thermostat showed only a 1 degree difference right up until the end of our stay. I can’t tell you how disappointed we are. We won’t get the chance at a small trip just the two of us again for quite some time, and what should have been a relaxing and romantic getaway, turned out to be mostly uncomfortable. It was maddening for us to walk out into the hallways and be cooled down, only to go back into either room and have little to no airflow. I had never even considered that this would perhaps be the case at a hotel that advertises itself as elegant and prestigious, when every hotel I’ve stayed at in my life, whether it was expensive or budget-friendly, was able to have the room temperature be controlled, no matter what time of year it was.
Beyond the issues with the uncomfortable rooms, at any other hotel I’ve stayed at, I have gotten either an email or a piece of paper under the door the morning of check out that details all of the room charges, and what is still owed. When we went to check out, I asked to see the total still owed and a breakdown of the charges. The people at the front desk told me that the system was down, but that they would email this to me when the system was back up. I provided my email address, which they wrote down, and I had no doubt that I would have this room charge breakdown by the end of the day and pay what was still owed. Since then, the St. Paul Hotel has not sent me a breakdown of the room charges like they said they would, but they have attempted to charge my card multiple times in varying amounts. Such poor service.

We came for Pearl Jam (along with hundreds of other fans) and stayed because of proximity and also because the hotel is highly rated. If I had to do it all over again, I would have found a newer, cleaner, hotel in Mpls. For the price we paid, we were disappointed at the old carpeting, curtains, upholstery, etc. Allergens galore! Considering all the oldsters for the Viking cruise (and some oldsters for PJ), it’s time to change the toilets to comfort height, also. Finally why weren’t the two bars open to accommodate after-show patrons? The lobby was full but no place to socialize or drink. As we left on Sunday, the next crew of fans for Greta Van Fleet arrived. They too will likely leave happy for the show but disappointed at the accommodations.

The St. Paul hotel is truly one of the most beautiful hotels in the mid west. The rooms are lovely, the beds comfortable, but for some obscure reason there is no hotel gift store where a package of gum, a bag of chips, and a bottle of water or soda can be purchased. Instead, you can patronize the mini bar, pay $4 for a can of Coke, $6 for a bottle of water, and NINE dollars for some M&M Peanuts. Also, bring your own hair dryer. Room service had a $3 delivery charge and a $3 surcharge, so if you think you are only paying $8.95 for a piece of cheesecake, you'll end up with a $17 piece of cake once the extra charges and tax are added on.

Marcia1480, thank you for staying with us and submitting a review. Room Service and the in-room snacks have higher pricing than our restaurants and bars. We provide higher quality products that come at a higher cost. There is a convenience store across the street and a Walgreens within a block for those searching for a lower price point. We also provide complimentary bottled water at the front desk.

Pastries and coffee available in the Business Center in the lobby every morning. There is a Starbucks across the street and a few other breakfast options within several blocks.

It would be very easy to catch a Lyft or an Uber to the Saint Paul Hotel. We had a rental car due to many other little visits in the area, but Uber or Lyft would be the easiest!
the parking is 15 per day. There is not a direct shuttle from the hotel. The best option is to look for the MN State Fair Park and Ride online which offers many locations to park and hop a free direct shuttle right to the gates of the fairground. We can also assist with finding the Park and Ride locations.
I'd recommend walking 2blks and having breakfast at Mickey's Diner. It's a famous landmark that is an old greasy spoon dining car that has been in several movies.
"Bring earplugs. Ask for a room away from the outside air-conditioning unit. The Landmark Centre across the road can help with information on getting around."
There are more places to choose from in the Saint Paul area.
