We were warmly welcomed at this location and our name was even written on the white board. Our first impression was good. The exterior and the interior are beautiful and it really portrays the era of trains. We were able to easily and quickly get checked in and get to our room. (Luggage carts are available and curbside loading is just outside the main entrance; wheelchair ramps are not--they are near the ends.)

Free parking is available immediately outside, but if the parking lot is full, as it was during our stay, we had to drive a full block south and park in the overflow lot and walk back. (We were given a parking tag, but I felt a little uneasy leaving my vehicle here as there is no security. (Thankfully, our car wasn't broken into during the night.))

A coffee/espresso/hot chocolate machine is available in the lobby area 24-7. (My children loved getting drinks whenever they wanted.)

I'm not sure when quiet hour is, but a large group in the lobby area woke us up by their talking after 1 a.m. The front desk staff didn't do anything to move these people to their rooms. (If I were to stay at this location again, I would request a room away from the lobby.)

The room was spacious enough, and very clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The sink is located in the bathroom, and not outside of it. The shower stall had a walk-in feature and no shower curtain and/or sliding door, just a piece of clear glass. (Since the sink is in the bathroom, my one child hung her towel over the glass for privacy while my other child used the sink/mirror.)

Breakfast is served from 6-9:30 a.m. on weekends and is available in the "Train depot" in the lobby. We arrived by 9:00 a.m. and all of the hot food items (eggs and sausage ) and milk were gone. The attendant finally replenished these items, around 9:30, after we filled up on waffles and pancakes. (Dry cereal, a parfait machine, and fruit is available.)

The indoor pool is just around the corner from the lobby in an open format--meaning that there are no doors, just a fence and gates on both sides. The pool is about 5' deep and has plenty of space to swim around. There is also a hot tub that was hot enough, a kiddie pool, and a sauna. (I enjoyed sweating it out in here. There is plenty of space in the sauna, too.) I liked the shower that is available in the pool area and the bathroom around the corner. A workout room is also available with numerous pieces, but we didn't use it. (We also didn't use the business center)

Bottom line: we would stay here again.

The location is perfect if you are visiting the State Fair or Como Zoo/Como Park and the space in the renovated train building is wonderful. This is a heavily family use hotel and pets are welcome as well so prepare yourself that the rooms look like they take a bit of a beating. Housekeeping does the best they can but no amount of dusting and vacuuming is going to hide curtains partially off or torn, carpet patches and stains, scratches on the furniture etc. The wi fi was fast and it worked and I was here to worship near by for Holy Week and Easter and it was great for my purposes. But, I would have to think hard about staying here again as it is very noisy. The pool area, bar area and breakfast bar, meeting rooms and front desk are in the bottom of an open atrium and there is constant noise and I was on the 2nd floor. I had to wear ear plugs in order to sleep. The shower had NO water pressure. Even though this is a pet friendly hotel and I saw dogs, I only heard one bark once. If I had mobility issues, I would definitely not stay here. The lobby floor is an uneven concrete pour over what used to be a rail bed and the sidewalk outside is buckling or heaving, especially if you end up having to walk to or from the overflow parking. If you get in after 6, pretty much count on having to park in overflow as the designated lot does not have a lot of spaces. Also, it is narrow, so any pickups or larger vehicles, you are going to want to park in overflow anyway, even with a car I recommend pulling in your side mirrors if you park in the small lot.

Your observations about the wear and tear, noise levels, and water pressure are important to us, as guest take guest Feeback very seriously to make the necessary improvements. We’re also aware of the challenges with parking and the uneven flooring in certain areas. We are continuously working on improvements and will take your feedback into consideration as we plan future upgrades. loved the decor tho our room lacked a few things and lamps and etc didnt work well. Most of all if u value sleep and quiet make sure you dont get any room anywhere around the pool. It echos most every where when people are in the pool u might as well be in the pool as well. . They did however move us to another room that was better but the group at the time was extremely loud and it was heard in that room as well. Prking is diffcult of taller vehicles that are taller and cannot fit in the under ground parking area. very few oustside choices that people didnt already have. breakfast was very limited No guest laundry in a BW plus i was surprised. they have a yougurt machine that poured out tastless yougurt little cold pancakes meat and breads and a waffle maker. not enough food or variety dissappointed

This is a very cool hotel. Loved the old train station theme - it was an old train repair shop. Check in went very smooth and enjoyed talking to the person at the front desk. Very knowledgeable. The rooms were updated and the bed was so comfortable. We ate breakfast the following morning and it was very good. The lady that was taking care of the breakfast room was so sweet and she made sure everything was always well stocked. Liked the fact that there was a bar at the hotel. The bartender even made a pizza for us while we had some cocktails. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

When we saw that the Bandana Square location had an opening, we immediately booked it. I love how they have repurposed this historical building and leaned into the railroad theme inside and out. The rooms were posh without being expensive. As a rewards member, I used my points to make the stay free, but I would have paid the $120 for the room regardless. It is close to awesome fun and restaurants in the Grand Ave and Lexington neighborhoods... plus easy access to main arteries like Snelling Ave and HWY 36. over all a real fantastic stay and experience.

Horrible irresponsible management and lazy staff. No one knows what's going on there. We booked 5 rooms and were overcharged by $800 and cannot get a refund. Customer care (which is off-site) is of no help at all. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.

Great hotel and location for Minnesota State Fair however I would book through St Fair website as the rates were considerably less than booking directly with hotel. The manager would not honor the website rate and was negative about the third party booking option. I get the hotel not wanting to lose revenue but then don’t use additional booking sites and don’t shame customers who do.

During this Roguetrip, we stayed at several Best Western Plus hotels, which is a chain we haven't stayed at much before. It wasn't intentional to stay at so many BWP hotels, its just how it worked out - and we have loved it - it is definitely a chain we are so impressed with, that we will definitely FOCUS to try and stay at BWP hotels more often in the future.

THIS hotel was hands down the most unique and interesting hotel we have stayed at.

This Best Western Plus is located inside an old train repair shop.
Rooms ring around the pool with courtyard/pool-facing rooms and an outer ring of rooms. Our room faced the pool.
The rooms were very comfortable, clean, and spacious. The beds were soft but supportive, pillows were plentiful, but I found them too thin. My husband did not find this problem.

Breakfast was great, with all kinds of options.
Eggs/omelettes, turkey sausage etc., yogurt, granola, oatmeal; seating is in the centre courtyard, which was lovely.

Parking...
There isn't enough parking for a whole house; we had to park in their overflow lot, which is a bit of a walk with suitcases.

The building is gorgeous. The old train facility gives this chain hotel a very boutique hotel vibe.
The front desk staff were amiable and helpful.
There is a small fitness centre with a few pieces of equipment. It would be very 'cozy' if two people were to use it at the same time.

While the hotel isnt within walking distance to any attractions, we did find it was a convenient location for our roguetrip purposes.

Sunday-Tuesday stay with two of us in family for quick Cities trip. No expectation of any 4 star business; yet, for the price, expected more. First, I applaud the restoration of the old RR station, the theme is executed well. There's a large train engine out front that kids would like. Yet, hotel is very dated (and not historically), smells of pool everywhere, and parking is horrid. Breakfast area was dirty. The side entrance from the one, small parking lot (which is not even close in size enough to accommodate all patrons, even on a Sun/Mon night, is hidden behind a tall fenced in dumpster area. No signage, you just are supposed to assume this is the welcome door (after having checked in around the other side of the building at obvious front door). The beds are fine. Room had a several foot strip of carpet toe kick (that goes like 4 in. up the side of each wall) disconnected, hanging off one wall. Ceiling in bathroom was 80's style ceiling tiles that bulged. There was a straight/not curved shower curtain rod, so was fighting the plastic shower curtain constantly in the shower. Soaps in plastic bags (didn't know that was even a thing anymore) were on offer. The back area they send you for overflow parking takes you past another part (previously used?) of the same building which is overgrown with weeds. The overflow parking lot is so far away you can barely glimpse a sight of the hotel from the location (in an industrial/apartment combo thing) and it's not well lit.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay with us. We appreciate your honest and detailed comments, which are invaluable for our continuous improvement. We’re pleased to hear that you appreciated the restoration of the old railroad station and the theme executed well. It’s great to know that the large train engine was a hit with your family. However, I am sorry to learn that several aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. I apologize for the dated appearance of the hotel and the pervasive pool smell that you experienced. Your comments about the parking situation, including the overflow lot and its distance from the hotel, are concerning. We understand how inconvenient this can be, especially with inadequate signage and lighting. We will review our parking arrangements and signage to improve guest accessibility and safety. Regarding the cleanliness of the breakfast area, the state of the carpet, the bathroom ceiling, and the shower curtain setup, I am deeply sorry for these issues. They are certainly not reflective of the standards we aim to maintain. We will address these concerns with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure a more pleasant experience for future guests. Additionally, I will look into the use of soaps in plastic bags and other outdated amenities to explore more modern and eco-friendly alternatives. Thank you again for your feedback. We are committed to making improvements based on your experience and hope to have the opportunity to provide a more satisfactory stay in the future.

Fun location.
Lovely room and quiet stay until 5 AM. Room 207 adjoins a staff cleaning/supply room.

Through the adjoining door to our room, we were awakened by several staff members laughing and catching up with their lives. When my husband asked them to be quiet they shouted back at him. We called the front desk and it was quiet until 8 AM when it began again. We decided to check out and when we returned our keys to the front desk and asked them about the incident, we were told that the disturbance we had heard came from another guest on the complete opposite side of the room and that there was no staff/cleaning room adjoining ours.

We have been long time members and are extremely disappointed in having spent 30,000 points for this stay.

In particular, we are disappointed at being told that what we experienced did not happen.

At the least, in the future we would hope that will staff be notified when there are guests in room 207 and behave quietly respectfully.
