We first visited Sanctuary Retreat in 2001 and then again in 2003. It had been a 12 year gap and we wondered if it would still be the special place we remembered it to be. Well we were not disappointed. The accommodation is wonderful, we stayed this time in a cabin with ensuite bathroom, which was decorated in a way...

Hi Jayne and Davie, Thank you so much for much for your detailed review. And it was great to hear, that after 12 years, Sanctuary was not only as good as you remembered but even a little bit better. Sanctuary is mostly about the wildlife and rainforest experience but what we have learned in the last 12 years is that...

Simply loved it here wish I could have stayed longer than one night. It was wonderful listening to the wildlife in the night and early morning. I had a deluxe cabin which was very comfortable and located on the top of the hill. I wouldn't recommend staying on lower levels its a steep hill to climb if you have mobility...

The rate quality/price very good. The room is located on a tree, in the middle of the rainforest. The views, the sunrise and the calm are extraordinary. The dinner is very good. The staff of the hotel is very friendly, they pick you with a 4WD in the entrance of the rainforest. On the other hand, the bathroom is shared,...

It was so fabulous to be in the rainforest, visited by cassowaries, orange footed scrub fowl and goannas. The food was magnificent and the view is awesome. I love the 'alfresco' en suite! It was so quiet and peaceful.

We stayed 4 nights in this amazing retreat. Glamping in the hidden huts is an amazing experience where you become part of the jungle. The restaurant serves amazing food and we had a great time. Be aware that it are steep walks and I would advice to take a hut with a bathroom because conquering the jungle at night, I...

Thanks Fleur for your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. As you pointed out Sanctuary is for the physically fit and adventurous, it's a challenging adventurous destination. But not without it's rewards and probably the best chance to see a Cassowary in the wild in Australia. The opportunity to sleep in the middle of a...

My husband and I went to Sanctuary Retreat for our 4th Wedding Anniversary and first weekend away from our little one. It was so peaceful and relaxing and the staff were wonderful. The location was also stunning! I have been and will continue to recommend Sanctuary Retreat to all our friends. We're hoping to make this trip a yearly tradition!

Perfect location for a yoga retreat..... Walk to and from car park, huts and yoga room is very steep. It was fine for my visit, but would be more challenging in pouring rain. Runners are a must. The huts are adequate and private, the outdoor cold showers and toilet were fine. The food in the restaurant was absolutely amazing! Our...

All i have to say is wow. This place is amazing. Staff is very friendly and personable. Cabins are simple and clean, and immersed in the forest for a unique outdoor-like experience. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway, this is the place. Best thing about this place - the food. Surprisingly gourmet for such an out-of-the...

Very relaxing to be in a rainforest setting that one has to walk to for half a kilometre from the car parking area. Different to staying in more commercial hotels and highly recommended. Great day walks in the region - e.g. Kennedy Bay, Bicton Hill, Dunk Island, the Tablelands.

Thanks Robin for mentioning that Sanctuary's exceptional vegan meals distracted you from saying that Sanctuary is located in a 50 acre private nature refuge that provides one of the best opportunities to see a Cassowary, as well as other creatures, in the wild. Yes. we have great food, as well as self catering facilities, but we also have great wildlife...
