Covid abruptly broke the habit of traveling and enjoying the beauty of the world. It was not possible to make the stay at this facility as desired. Their staff was very helpful in trying to resolve the booking issues. Unlike many facilities, they have always provided information promptly, kindly and with attention to our needs.

Our beautiful trip to Italy was cancelled last year when the travel restrictions to Europe were imposed due to the Corona pandemic. Despite this situation, the hotel management and staff went out of their way to accommodate our situation and to resolve the difficulties we encountered with our booking. We would like to thank them for working with us to find a solution and for accommodating our concerns. It is a beautiful property in a wonderful setting, and we would not hesitate to book another stay again in the future.

I stayed at the hotel for 4 days. While I found the hotel to be incredibly beautiful and relaxing, I also found it to be incredibly overpriced. 9 Euros for a Coke is ridiculous!!! I also found the pool to be suprisingly not clean. It was an all white pool but everything was stained green. I then stayed at the Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento and it had the cleanest pool I have ever seen. A major shortcoming is that the hotel is a 20 minute drive to Montelcino, and if you have no car,you are stuck. A hotel of this caliber to not have a shuttle van to take people into town is inexcusable. And while I understand that the week I was there was a holiday week for Italians, the price the hotel charged for a taxi was astronomical!!! I paid 250 Euros to go to dinner in a town that was literally 15 minutes away. That being said,I need to make a special mention of the Chief Concierge,Franco Gozzi. I am an experienced traveler of over 40 years who frequently uses the services of a concierge when I’m in need of help. I can honestly say that Franco went way above and beyond what any concierge has done for me. His professionalism, expertise, kindness, and empathy is unequaled to any other concierge I have dealt with. His willingness to solve what seemed to be an insurmountable problem, and his determination in doing so,was really the reason that my stay at the hotel turned out to be a wonderful experience. I can honestly say that if it were not for Franco, my stay would have been somewhat miserable. He literally made my stay there a total pleasure. I can never thank him enough for all that he did. He is truly a gem and he sets the standards for what a concierge should be. Thank you Franco!!!!!!!!!

Dear scottg11, Thank you for your time dedicated to share with us your experience. We are sorry that the quality of our swimming pool did not live up to your expectations. Probably the swimming pool of the Sorrento structure you are talking about is filled with normal water while that of our castle is thermal and as such the minerals inside sometimes alter the normal light color of the travertine. If you send us the invoice for your transfer, we will take care to double check as the price indicated does not correspond to our price list. Franco is our spearhead of the Conciergerie. His great experience makes him irreplaceable, incomparable and made him deserve the Clefs d'Or. It will be a great pleasure for us to share your nice words and this commendation with him. Greetings from Montalcino

We’ve been here before and love it. It’s quiet, peaceful and beautiful. A full panoramic 360 degree view of historic Tuscany in all its glory engulfs this centuries old castle. The hot spas and pool are invigorating and therapeutic. The pace is laid back and totally calming. The pandemic has made it less busy and frenetic. The hotel is just a stones throw away from several of the best Brunello wineries and we spent several days visiting those close by. The staff is helpful with selections, both big and small wineries. We also enjoyed an extensive wine tasting with the resident wine maker at Castillo de Velona and it was very educational, informative and mostly just plain fun. The entire service staff works hard with a goal to please. Hotel staff wears masks and guest do while inside. Most of the hotel is open air which is safer as well. The chief concierge was at our service at all times and very friendly and great at handling any minor issues quickly. The food is good (homemade pici melted with pecorino made in a flamed cheese wheel and all the seafood and grilled vegetables were delicious), and the chef is flexible allowing orders off the menu which is nice for dieting and making selections more approachable. Breakfast is not buffet right now due to the virus, and yet better with an extensive a la carte menu: assorted eggs, fresh sliced salmon, pastries, fruit bowls, juices, and coffees. All delicious, freshly prepared and part of the daily room and breakfast plan. Restaurant menu prices for dinner are very expensive and there’s a 10% restaurant service markup and 20% for room service. The wine list is navigable with a lot of wines in the e50-70 range if you are not drinking Brunello which is much higher. The sommelier was very helpful in making interesting and delicious bottle selections at a reasonable price. The pool bar restaurant was wonderful too making pizza and shrimp and salad dishes we enjoyed. Hopefully, when we come back again, the pandemic will be a thing of the past. Our stay here made us forget about all the craziness going on in the world right now.

Dear steveseldo, thank you for your accurate and positive review! Thank you also for the beautiful words used to describe our 1000 years old location, our service and our Team. Compliance with the pandemic containment measures are our priority. The wide spaces and the fresh air that passes constantly in the common areas helps us to keep our castle a covid free oasis. Breakfast, as you rightly noted, is served and boasts a menu with dozens of dry pastry products, fresh fruit and vegetables, salmon, caviar, eggs and of course italian caffé, cappuccino...! We are happy that you enjoyed our wines and the wisdom of our Sommelier Serena. We look forward to welcoming you again on another date. Greetings from the sunny side of Tuscany
