Detailed Reviews
We arrived at the Azul Pitaya hotel on March 10, 2020 unaware we were the first guests in this beautiful brand new hotel. We were welcomed by the owners and staff with excitement and champagne. This new hotel is right on the beach with gorgeous views of the ocean. The grounds and pool area are impeccably maintained with really comfortable lounge chairs with very comfy cushions. The rooms are very well thought out with king sized beds, a kitchen, a very comfortable spacious sitting area and bathroom. The location couldn’t be better with many bars and restaurants steps away on the beach and a few minute walk to restaurants by the plaza. A special thank you to Patricia and her lovey daughter for ensuring we had everything we needed.

I couldn't believe how lucky I was to stumble on this hotel. It has a beautiful giant heated pool, is beachfront, and the wifi was superb. I needed a place to chill and work a few days before heading home and chose the hotel for the wifi advertisement. Wifi worked in my room, by the pool, by the beach. I felt like I was the only person there.
The grounds are beautifully groomed, the rooms are super cute, the bed is comfortable (I have back issues), and the location is somewhat central but away from the annoying downtown noise. Some nights, the bars next door would have live music and if I left the balcony door open or sat outside I could hear it and really enjoyed it! If I wanted silence, I simply closed the door.
This is a hotel in transition, so they are still working on adding things like the rooftop hot tubs, bar, etc - but I didn't feel like these things were lacking in any way. There are so many delicious restaurants nearby!
One last thing - the staff was amazingly sweet. Always cheerful and saying hello. Patty was so nice! I can't wait to go back.

We could see the ocean from our room porch which included a table and chairs. Staff was friendly and helpful, including all cleaning staff. We didn't want our room cleaned every day and they were accommodating- we just did it about 3 or 4 times of 8 days. They did a great job . Hotel entrance faces a street with a block of tents and individual vendors. It was so much fun to pass there or stop there. The pool is large, warm, clean and beautiful and only hotel guests can use it. It never had more than 4 people in it at a time- some kids in the shallow area. Breakfast is limited to 3 choices and just ok but nice to have it. A great organic food truck is located less than a 1/2 block away and wonderful breakfasts run by a wonderful man who is a good cook. WE had the pool, free breakfast, afternoon/evening cash bar, free purified water in lobby, mini kitchenette in room with refrigerator, 2 stove tops and dishes and a pitcher. Loved this small hotel on the beach. Coffee maker and coffee in room provided.

Pros: heated pool, direct beach access
Cons: This is a very basic hotel. The rooms are okay, but the beds are terribly hard. My hips and back ache from sleeping here. The couch beds are big enough for kids under age 7, definitely not an adult, and are also incredibly hard. Ants and a lizard were in our room, as the doors aren't sealed at the bottom. A/C either didn't work or would never turn off. We spent one night freezing and shivering because it wouldn't turn off.
The Wifi is no where near strong enough to work remotely (I had to use my phone hot spot to even send emails, much less Zoom). The safe cannot fit a laptop (nothing larger than a Kindle).
Breakfast is only chilaquiles or pancakes, which is fine for 1-2 days, but not anymore than that. Service is very slow, so plan on an hour for breakfast.
There is no water filtration system, so you have to get your own water from the pool bar area for drinking and brushing teeth. There is a very small pitcher provided, but this meant many trips per day to fill up our own water.
Pool tile and paint is chipping. Many more lounge chairs needed to accommodate a full hotel. Pool towels must be exchanged at the front desk, so if you get a towel sandy at the beach, you have to walk all the way back to the front desk to get a clean towel to use for the pool.
We also happened to be there during Sayulita Days, which is a festival that happens every February. Research those dates and DO NOT stay here during that week! (really, just avoid Sayulita all together). The base from the music was thumping so loud from 7pm-1am every single night. Hotel staff claimed to "not know anything about it," despite that this festival happens in the hotel's backyard annually. They didn't care at all, and refused to refund us if we left early.
I would never stay here again. We came home tired and annoyed from our vacation. Even just the pool towel and getting all of our own water situations made it seem like work to be on vacation.

The location of this hotel is great. It is right on the ocean and it also has a very big (heated!) outdoor pool. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely equipped. There is a 2-burner stove top, and decent-sized mini fridge, a coffee maker, a kitchen sink, and a good supply of dishes and cookware to make a longer stay comfortable. The bathroom was great too. Nice shower, good water pressure, great amenities. We also enjoyed the little balcony off the room with a small table and 2 chairs. There were 3 of us, so we requested a third chair and it was promptly brought to us. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were only there for one night, but will definitely come back again for longer next time. Great experience! One thing to note, the internet wasn't strong in our room. There are wifi antenna attached to some of the trees in the pool area, and we weren't far from one, but the signal still wasn't that strong. Probably all the trees around. Not a huge deal for us for one night, but worth mentioning. Also, there are no tv's in the rooms.

We were a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 young children who spent 6 nights over Christmas here.
Given how much we paid and the photos of the resort, we were expecting a lovely resort. It’s an old and dated resort that they hope we wouldn’t notice over a fresh coat of paint.
When we first arrived we were greeted by a lovely reception area, but unfortunately not a great use of space. The room itself was styled well but very basic. No tv, no phone and the wifi didn’t work.
The best thing about the pool is that it’s warm. It was dated and paint was peeling off in patches. There’s also only a few sunlounges that are often taken even if you arrive very early.
The beach itself is quite dirty and does not have white sand. We also heard of many people who became sick after swimming on the beach. Obviously not the resorts fault for this though.
Breakfast was BAD. If you do stay here, do not order the bland pancakes. Not bad because they’re bland but because you will be swarmed by groups of bees. Not a pleasant experience and I didn’t understand why breakfast had to be on the beach. There are two other breakfast options but all are lack lustre. We found getting crossiants from a local French bakery was far better.
Sayulita as a town is great… the food was outstanding as was the surf.

Was a really good vacations, if you are looking service, location, clean and comfortable facilites hotel in Sayulita; the hotel Azul Pitaya Is an excellent option, near to the downtown, just walk 3 block and you are there . The rooms have excellent view to the beach are recently renovate.
If you have kids them will enjoy the pool and you could swim at night.
Have direct access to the beach with own furniture for the hotel guest and always have security.
The manager makes you feel like home, she is checking that all in hotel works fine and always asking you if you are fine.
The kitchen in the room is excellent because the hotel don’t have any food service but you will find many option near to the hotel.
Be sure I’ll return soon with my family.

This place is a great beach front hotel with incredible rooms (with kitchenette!) and really friendly staff. They were still working on a bar and restaurant with fire pit and more while we were there, so I can only imagine the place will be even better soon. Rooms were very clean, pool is huge and cleaned daily. Security was obvious and privacy from public beach was easy with their own beach raised about and over looking crashing waves. Really great stay, wish we had stayed longer. Walking out the lobby put you right into the heart of Sayulita. Every room had A/C and ceiling fans and balconies with coffee tables. Beautiful plants and flowers everywhere throughout hotel.

What a great spot for a family or couple’s vacation! The staff treat you like family. The fact that it’s quiet but on the beach, on top of everything else makes it a perfect spot. The pool is great and safe for the kids there’s a lovely spot right above the beach that you can quietly sit and sunbathe as well as walk 10 feet and be right around the action

Our family stayed at AzulPitaya for 7 nights (2 kids ages 6 & 9) and we were really happy with our experience. The location is great, right on the beach and close to all the shops & restaurants in Sayulita. The room was comfortable & clean, the pool was large & fun, and the staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. We ended up getting sick after a couple days and the cleaning staff especially was so understanding & kind, and it was nice to be in such a lovely hotel since we weren't feeling well enough to venture much beyond the pool for a couple days.
Some other reviews have mentioned the noise, we found that only on one night (Saturday) was it really an issue. Saturday the event venue next door played music so loud it felt like the speaker was in our room, but it stopped by 12pm and thankfully we were prepared with earplugs. We weren't disturbed any other nights.

I did manage to get my reservation confirmed, after sending email a week after booking, but I am also having a very hard time getting any response to other email inquiries! Not encouraging ...
We asked around at the Farmacias and they gave us a number to a woman who administers the test via housecall to your hotel. That was $50. A friend who lives there says they always go to the Sayulita Hospital before they travel, and get the negative antigen test there for $50. This way they get a paper copy as well as the email. Finally, the airport in Puerto Vallarta has a 24/7 facility located just outside the airport. It looks super easy to just have the taxi take you there and get the test an hour or two before you fly.
Yes, the kid can sleep in the Sofa...
