Hotel's Favourite
Beautiful hotel and grounds. We stayed for seven night, two in Bungalow 2 and five in Pasion. Since I love an ocean view, I preferred Pasion but Bungalow 2 was comfortable and had a spacious outdoor area. Frankly, the hotel website does not do the property justice, it is amazing. As a morning person, I particularly appreciated the coffee maker and good coffee in the room. There is also a mini fridge. It is about a 25 minute walk to town, which I enjoyed daily, or a ten minute drive by golf cart. There is yoga offered daily (at 9:30 while we were there) and you can book a massage or other spa services on site.

This was our first stay at playa Escondida but it definitely won’t be our last. We got home about a week and a half ago and I am already looking at our calendar to see when we can return. If you are looking for an all inclusive type resort with endless 24 hour entertainment options, this is not the place for you. What it does offer is a small resort with an endless opportunity to relax, enjoy the natural beach and jungle surroundings, eat good food, and meet the nicest people. Noe, Jesus, Joel, Mike and Diana... thank you so much for everything you did to make our stay amazing!!
we ended up using the hotel transportation from the airport and it worked out perfectly.
The room we stayed in was Sol 1 which has breathtaking views of the beach/ocean as well as a private jacuzzi. It also has air conditioning which we were grateful for and I’d definitely recommend if staying during the summer months. However other people we met were staying in rooms that didn’t have air conditioning and weren’t bothered by it. They said there were plenty of fans to keep them cool so I guess it’s all personal preference.
The food at the restaurant was very good and prices were extremely reasonable (in our opinion... Yes you can get cheaper meals in town, but as far as hotel food pricing is concerned it wasn’t expensive). Because of that we ended up eating every meal there except for 1 lunch when we went into Sayulita. We only spent about $400 total including food and drinks. That was for 5 days (4 nights) for 2 people. I think I could live on the mahi-mahi ceviche alone. It’s so good!!
The beach is beautiful and is absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset. There is a beach hut where they offer kayaks and SUP’s for free. He also offered to have us fish with him one morning although we didn’t take him up on it. There’s also an adorable beach bar and they are willing to bring drinks/food to your beach chair if you’d like to eat there instead of the restaurant.
We took a golf cart into sayulita one morning. That was an adventure because the map they give you is not very well marked and we got turned around coming back. And then our golf cart ran out of steam going back up the steep incline so we had to get out and push it up the mountain. So you may want to ask for better directions before you leave and make sure your golf cart has enough power. But like I said it was an adventure and we are still laughing about it.
Due to Covid, the resort was not full at all. I think we were one of maybe 6 or 7 couples/families. Because everything is open air except for the room, it was a perfect place to get away during this time. We will definitely be back!!

Christa, we really appreciate this detailed review, each room is special and unique in its own way and we are glad that you found the perfect one, that allowed you to live the Playa Escondida Experience. As you just said we aren’t for everybody, just for those who want something out of the ordinary, a “hidden paradise” for those who seek it. Besides the stunning views of nature, our team helps to make every occasion memorable because we love what we do, thank you for recommend our shuttle service, we've been working with for a long time, It's safe, reliable and comfortable, Furthermore, they know where we are located and knowns how to treat our friends. Our restaurant isn’t for making profit but to add to the experience and we are happy that you enjoyed every meal and that you could find your favorite one. Playa Escondida is without equal as a paradigm of safe refuge despite the pandemic we are leaving, fresh sea air, spacious private beach, verdant jungle surroundings in a perfectly healthy secluded beach environment. We will be waiting for you and Paul, see you soon for another adventure at paradise!

We stayed at Playa Escondida for three nights in January. What a lovely resort. The food was incredible. The view amazing and the staff extremely accommodating. I must also comment on their website, very user friendly. Any questions you may have on the the type of room you are looking for is perfectly answered. We went with bird canyon as we like a quiet, private location to spend our evenings. We just loved the property and resort. The golf cart was essential to the room location and just a few minute drive to Sayulita. We found the drive to be perfectly safe and easy to navigate to town. Sayulita is my new favorite destination in Mexico !
Please treat yourself to a massage at the resort. All the rooms have a character all their own and you won’t go wrong whatever you choose.
Playa Escondida is an intimate resort not a lot of night life but there is plenty in Sayulita If that is what you are looking for.
Our room did not have AC but it was 60 degrees at night during our visit so was not an issue whatsoever. The water in the shower was hot when needed and great water pressure. There was a little road traffic from our room but wasn’t really an issue but if that might bother you then maybe not choose a room in bird canyon. It didn’t bother us. I read about raccoons entering rooms on other reviews but we never saw any. And to be honest I was kind of hoping we might. I rather like wildlife.
Great mini vacation, we loved every minute of our time at there.

What an amazing place. Where to start? Prior to getting to the resort their reservation team was extremely helpful. Due to Covid I starting reviewing vacation destinations about a month out and booked a week out. During that time the reservation team always answered my many emails quickly which made it easy to have all the info I needed to book. Once I was ready to book they continued to be amazing. They set up roses in our room, helped with a few different excursions, arranged round trip transportation from the airport and back and set up Covid tests at the resort with a Dr for us.
Once we got to the resort it is more beautiful than online. This is where you want to go to avoid huge resorts and mass amounts of people. The rooms are spread out nicely, the staff wears masks and the guests are not required to. The food at the restaurant was very good and the drinks were all very good. The staff was also extremely nice, helpful and friendly. I also thought it was cool that the owner and his family were on the property and had a few conversations with him. I liked that family feel vs a big brand name resort.
We stayed in two different rooms. First we stayed in Villa 5 for three days then Ixchel Penthouse for three days. Both rooms were beyond our expectations. The views were so pretty and the overall vibe from the rooms were very relaxing. There are no TV's, no phones. You come here to unplug and relax. Wifi was ok but again try to unplug. I will say if you are a light sleeper pick your room carefully. I am a light sleeper and was ok in Villa 5 but I did not sleep from about 1 am to 5 am in Ixchel due to the ocean being so loud and the room being very close to the ocean. Villa 5 is back a little bit and there are less rocks so I was ok in that room.
This is not a place to come and party. The restaurant and bar close around 9ish most nights and there is nothing to do after. Bring cards, or be happy just listening to the waves and relaxing
We rented golf carts a few times and went to town which was a lot of fun. The horse back ride was cool.
We plan on going back for sure!!

From the moment we arrived, every single person at Playa Escondida was kind and welcoming. The rooms are unique, with beautiful views of the ocean, outdoor bathrooms and showers, and open-air walls. While there were plenty of couples, it was a great place for our family. The golf carts they provide make for a wild adventure to visit the nearby town of Sayulita. Ask before you come whether it is raccoon season, and if it is, make sure you get a room where all the doors and windows close. They are curious creatures who will come in your room during the night and rummage around.

Staying at Playa Escondida is a stress free experience from the time you make your reservation until you depart you will be very well taken care of. Arrangements were made for us to be picked up and a driver was waiting just as we walked through the exit doors at the airport. When we arrived at the hotel our bags were taken to our room while we were given a welcome drink. the rooms are situated in a way that make you feel that your room is completely by itself. We stayed in 3 different rooms and prefer the ones with no A/C with our terrace doors and windows wide open. The lounges on the beach are spread out and there are plenty so you rarely see any being saved. The food is the best I've ever had in Mexico and the outstanding chefs will make just about anything you ask for as long as they have the ingredients. The food and beverage staff, Juan, Jesus, Joel, Daniel and Noe and Grecia and Juliana at guest services are awesome! I can't imagine a more relaxing place to stay!

From beginning to end and every minor detail in-between, Playa Escondida was top notch. Every person on their staff family was so professional, kind and helpful. Mike the beach ambassador was an invaluable source of local and water information. The food had a superb variety, super fresh, and the portions never left you wanting more. Each room was spotlessly clean, unique and brought that outdoor jungle feel right in! Everyday the lovely housekeeping person elegantly folded our canopy around the bed. Such a nice touch. I can't wait to return.

I've been wanting to stay here for some period of time, and finally got my chance! It is everything that the glowing reviews make of it. My sister and I stayed in Luna Dazante. I think it's the only room with 2 beds. The location is perfect and we loved our porch and bar area for making coffee and watching the waves in the morning. The meandering trails through the property are so beautiful with lush vegetation and reminded me a lot of Costa Rica. The beach is lovely, quiet and the water was clear and warm. It was a nice not to have to say "no gracias" to sellers and just relax.
We were these during rainy season and our room did have an air-conditioner. We didn't think it did, so needless to say, it was a surprise. It was also surprising that the mosquitos were not as bad as I feared since they love me.
We enjoyed watching sunset in the pool every night and talking with the other friendly guests here. We also took our golf cart to Sayulita for a couple of nights and had excellent food at Don Pedro's and Rustica. Rustica was better than most Italian food I've eaten in Italy. We loved the Avocado Toast at PE and their drinks were excellent as well.
Everyone who works here is so friendly, helpful and easy going. Our room wasn't being rented out on the day we left and they even offered to let us keep our stuff in it, shower or whatever we needed. We were all packed but I thought the offer was nice.
After PE, we moved down to the Marriott in the marina and all we said the entire time...."we miss our little hut." We wanted to check-out and go back so bad. I love luxurious resorts but the vibe at this place is perfect.

This hotel is a definite wow factor. The moment I stepped foot on the property I was amazed at how unique it is. I loved my room, the studio. Great views and such a special feel. Very artsy and open. I did have animals come in during the night that ate my sweets but it was almost part of the experience. Be prepared to hike up and down the hill to get to your room. My friends and I hit our exercise goals every day without exercising. The spa was really cool with views and sounds of the ocean and i enjoyed my massage very much. I have typically stayed at 5 star resorts in Mexico so there were some of the standards there lacking like specialty cocktails and beach side service. It seemed every time I ordered something other than their blender drink, mango margarita, I had to wait on the beach. 5 of the 9 girls who came here left with a severe stomach bug and have been sick for the last 10 days. I would avoid all ice and stick with beers and champagne. Highly sensitives, protect and clear your energy daily while staying here. I picked something up there and have been trying to get rid of it since I left. This place really is cool but I would not go back.

Wow..... This is truly a hidden gem. The staff was absolutely outstanding and the beauty at every turn was amazing. The rooms were much more than we could’ve ever expected, they were large and spacious and we had four couples staying in different suites and we could all gather in one room. we had a blast and We will go back.

Yes, there is complementary bottled water in the rooms. The water out of the taps is fine for bathing but not recommended for drinking. There were people body surfing and swimming in the ocean but probably best for strong swimmers. There is also a lovely pool overlooking the ocean.
Just saw this. The mattresses have always been comfortable, somewhere in between. The water pressure is just ok, but it doesn't seem to matter...
