We stayed at the Barracks for 10 days. It was well equipped with everything we needed including shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. (Not silly little hotel sizes either.) The Barracks were situated off the main tourist drag and consequently quiet and peaceful. Along with a very comfortable bed, it meant extremely good nights sleep. Simone and Matthew were attentive to...

Arrived a little earlier than planned, so called to let our hosts know. This was no problem at all as the room was ready & the key in the key safe. Our room, "The Cellar" was neatly presented & had everything we needed for our overnight stay (was especially happy that there were 2 luggage racks in the room). Our...

The suggested walk is a favourite of ours and really highlights the wonderful history that Richmond has 'in spades'- so pleased to hear that you enjoyed it! Kind regards Simone

There was a second bedroom upstairs with ensuite (toilet and handbasin) if required for another couple. A short walk will take you to the bridge for a photo experience then return via the main street to your spacious well appointed room. Relax in the courtyard with a book from the shelf in your room. Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before touring the vineyards and wicked cheese tasting a short drive away.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Richmond Barracks is centrally located in a quiet, peaceful pocket of the beautiful Georgian town of Richmond. An easy walk to the famous Richmond Bridge and Richmond's main street, filled with excellent dining options, antique stores and Tasmanian craft shops. Relax and enjoy the spacious sun filled gardens that surround the beautiful cottages on our property. The Colonial officers who originally lived at the Barracks certainly did not enjoy the superb comforts you'll find here today. Built in 1830, using local convict bricks, this charming National Trust Registered property is a restful haven for the discerning traveller. Choose between any of these three purpose built accommodations: Lady Esther Cottage: two storey, self contained family accommodation, sleeps four comfortably. The Retreat: bedroom, lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, sleeps two/three comfortably. The Cellar: studio with kitchenette and bathroom sleeps two only. You'll be comfortable and warm with electric blankets and heaters in all bathrooms, and efficient reverse cycle air conditioning/heating in all cottages. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property. A hearty, continental breakfast is available at an additional charge. Off street parking is provided. ... more   less
