Overall a nice historic hotel with reasonably spacious rooms. Looking at pics of the exterior, one might assume that all rooms have a nice view, however our window just looked out into another brick wall. Air-conditioning is a portable unit that stands on the floor and a bit loud. I think that for the nightly fee, which is relatively high for this area, they should include at least a continental breakfast instead of just coffee. Parking is great.

My coworker stayed in a boring chain hotel, but I jumped at the chance to choose an interesting historic building instead. The Finlen isn’t for everyone, lacking some of the amenities of newer hotels, but my room was very clean and everything in it worked. I was also able to take some nice walks around uptown Butte, something I can’t do in modern hotels on the outskirts of a town. The daily maid service was a nice touch, unlike many other hotels using Covid as an excuse to take housekeeping service away. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. If I have reason to return to Butte, I would definitely stay in this unique time-warp hotel again.

I booked four nights here months in advance with the intention of going hiking and seeing the stars in Montana. Unfortunately our visit was during the time of the wildfires so it was incredibly hot and the sky was never clear. The reason I mention this is because we had to spend more time in our room than usual but this hotel was so cool that it didn't bother us at all! Floors two and three are for the hotel rooms, and anything above that is residential. We were in a suite at the end of the hallway on floor 3. The lobby is massive so even on floor three you're up high and have a nice view of the valley and mountains. The suite is actually two rooms put together. The room door that the bed was in was unlocked so make sure you check your locks. The bed was super comfortable and the room was very spacious. The bedroom area had an extra sink in a closet which worked out perfect as I could do my makeup while my husband was showering in the main bathroom. There was a portable air conditioner that helped cool the room, although it never got cooler than 72 because it was so hot outside. There are also ceiling fans in both rooms. The rest of the hotel is neat and worth exploring! We had a pull out couch that wasn't very comfortable to sit on because it leaned forward. Fridge, microwave and coffee all provided. Towels soft, toiletries were nice and surprisingly great water pressure! Great location to walk everywhere. Coffee also in lobby every morning. We also enjoyed the beer and big pretzel in the parking lot area on Friday night. Employees were friendly. Housekeeping did a great job. Parking lot is small but there's another lot across the street. We always found a spot in the main lot. Liked this place so much we bought a t-shirt!

This is a beautiful historic hotel. Stayed here the first week of October '20 for 3 nights. The first 2 nights were uneventful, and my boyfriend and I enjoyed the comfort of rooms 211 and 213 which are 2 rooms connected, each with it's own bed, bathroom and flat screen TV. On the third night we decided to do laundry which is on the 7th floor. We road up in the elevator twice together to sort and start the laundry, then to put the laundry into the dryer. On the 3rd trip to retrieve our laundry from the dryer, I went alone. The hotel was very quiet during our stay, am guessing due to COV-ID. Hardly saw anyone our entire stay, and as I exited the elevator, the hallway was empty. After retrieving our laundry and getting back onto the elevator, I hit the button for floor 2 as we had done the 2 previous trips, & the doors closed. Then after about 5 seconds, the bell dinged and the doors opened up again. There was no one there, so I peered down the hallway in both directions and saw no one. This gave me goose bumps, and feeling a little unsettled, I hit the 2 button again, the doors closed & the elevator went to floor 2. Admittedly, I watch ghost hunter shows, so I told myself I was overreacting with my fears. Back at my hotel room my boyfriend could tell I was startled, and after explaining to him why, he of coursed dismissed it as irrational. We then began visiting about our trip and folding laundry. We both had our TVs on, and in the other room, I heard the TV go off. Again that unsettled feeling crept in, and upon peaking into the other room, I saw the TV was indeed off, and the remote was sitting on the bed. For the rest of the night, I stayed almost literally right next to my boyfriend. He of course teased me that I was overreacting. Am the first to admit that was probably true. Nonetheless, even though I had my own bed, I slept right next to my boyfriend, or at least tried to, but really only tossed & turned. The next morning at 0600, the alarm next to the bed went off. And after struggling to make sense of what was happening, then struggling to turn it off, I thought, "OK, what gives?" I mean really? Neither one of us touched the clocks during our stay (we both use our phones while traveling), and again, this was the 3rd day we woke up in these rooms. So if it had just been set from previous tenants, then why did the alarm go off on day 3 and not the first 2? Am not sure I would stay here again only because of these experiences. I may watch ghost shows from the safety & comfort of my front room, but don't want to meet any. Would love to know if others have had similar experiences.

We stayed in the motor inn section of the Finlen as the historic hotel section was full at the time. The rooms are efficient, clean and very simple truly reflecting a motor inn built in the 1950’s. While the amenities are sparse the room was clean and comfortable providing a restful nights sleep. The parking lot is level and off street perfect for motorcyclists who stay. The location is in the heart of Butte’s historic district with easy walking to several bars and restaurants. The main building and lobby are beautiful having been restored to the glory days of 1923.
Unfortunately during our stay, COVID 19 has most of the businesses shut down or operating with limited services.

This is a grand old hotel in what was once a thriving city of 100,000. Butte and the Finlen have seen their better days but if you want to experience Butte as it was, the Finlen is a good stop. The bed was great (we had two in a two room suite with two baths), the place is built so solidly that we didn't hear any noise. They've added AC with an in room unit. Lobby is grand. Fun place to stay and experience Butte.

Nice historical hotel in Butte. We loved that it was in walking distance of what we wanted to do. Staff was friendly and helpful and parking was easy. Cool views from the top floors and the rooms were decently sized. Close to the bars/ pubs we wanted to go to and within walking distance.

The Finlen was was top notch at one time. No longer. The lobby is lovely but that is about it. Difficult to find the bathroom light... it was a small switch above the sink. Had to grope around in the dark to find it. Talking about lights... the only lamps were on ONE bedside table and the other on the desk. No overhead lights. However there was a bright naked lightbulb showing through the window from another room that was kitty corner directly into our window and even closing the blinds did not keep that light out. Tiny room. Bathroom falling apart. The air conditioner sounded like a locomotive was going through the room. The bed was comfortable. Very expensive mistake staying there!

Definitely historic....a pretty hotel. Our room was really small, but not uncomfortable. The bed wasn't great, but not awful. The staff was friendly and the hotel itself was restored nicely. Note....the surrounding restaurants close early during the week....like 8 or 9 and the hotel doors lock at 11 they said. So, if you're gong to be arriving late, eat beforehand.

We stayed at the Finlen on our way to Glacier National Park and liked it so much that we booked it for our return as well.
The first night we had a corner king room that was incredibly spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is of the old pedestal sink style so that's a little tricky, but it was worth it for the historical vibe. You can't help but dream about who might have stayed in the same room or how it might have been used as a parlor to a suite back in the day.
On our way back we had a queen room, which was much smaller, but plenty large for our needs. The beds in both rooms were soft and comfortable. We did have some problem with getting the room cool enough the second night and it wasn't until morning that I saw the directions on how to open the window, which would have worked great since it was in the 50s at night.
The location is great. We walked to dinner and the speakeasy with no trouble, even in the rain. The hotel does feel rather empty, but then so does the downtown. I'm sure part of this is the impact of COVID, where things just haven't gotten back to usual. Once the cocktail lounge is open again, perhaps the life will return.
Take some time to notice the copper gilt in the lobby. It's really gorgeous when you realize what it is.

Thank you for thinking of the Finlen for your trip to next year's An Ri Ra. We have very limited availability right now because we are the host hotel for the festival's entertainers, but we do have some rooms. I would book fairly soon as the rooms not taken by the festival will slowly fill up between now and next summer.
There are more places to choose from in the Butte area.
