Under Canvas Glacier hotel offers a vibrant atmosphere with live entertainment and communal activities, which, while appreciated by many, can be marred by nighttime noise from nearby bars. While guests praise the cleanliness and the attentive service, some feel that the value doesn't quite match the price, due to uncomfortable amenities and the hotel's location near busy highways and train lines. Despite this, the comfortable beds and well-maintained rooms receive positive remarks, as do the cozy amenities like wood burning stoves and on-site dining options.

I booked this stay as part of a larger trip including Canada for my husband's 40th birthday. When we first arrived, we were greeted and instructed on the use of our wood burning stove and shower. We were then escorted up to the parking area and rode a golf cart to our tent with our luggage. The tent we stayed in was the deluxe which included a toilet, shower, and sink. This was definitely worth the extra money. The shower is as you would expect a pull chain, on a timer type shower. The water did get very warm, but would get cold requiring you to pull the chain again. However, it was still pleasant at the end of the day after hiking and activities. (Make sure to start your fire first so you can warm up immediately) The bed was very comfortable and the room had plenty of seating both inside and out with areas to hang your stuff. Charging stations were offered for your phones as well as battery powered lanterns that provided ample light. It did get chilly overnight (in the 50's) but there were plenty of blankets on the bed and with the wood burning stove, we stayed pretty comfortable. In fact, I got hot eventually under all the blankets. I read other reviews and people complained about traffic noise and the train. Yes, you're right off Hwy 2 and there is traffic, but not as much towards the evening and I didn't wake up at night to the sounds of traffic. There are trains that go through the area fairly regularly (including overnight) and they are required to blow their horn, but honestly I find it soothing and if you hike enough you'll be passed out anyways. That's the point, isn't it? Haha! I thought this was the best of both worlds, some camping and a real bed. There is NO electricity, but I had fairly good cell service the whole time. You cannot have any food in your tent, but definitely pack snacks and leave them in your car. For all you coffee drinkers, my husband and I packed a tiny camping can and little mount that you put a fire starting cube underneath (I'm not sure of what they're called officially) and we packed our own coffee and powdered creamer. We made our own coffee in the tent because I didn't want to walk down to the reception area at 0430 or 0500. They do have coffee that early, but I preferred making it in our tent and drinking it outside in my pjs and coat. I will definitely stay at Under Canvas again. Any bad reviews they get is because the people don't pack for the weather, understand what camping is, and have hotel expectations.

the site is close to west entrance of glacier, comfortable linens and bed, close to columbia falls. complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, s'mores are available in the main tent.

noise is a factor including smoke alarms from wood burning stoves around camp, trains, cars. we slept well despite that after a long day of hiking.

understandably can't have food in your tent bc bears. it's better to shower in the evening as it's cold in the morning (pull shower). no electricity in the tent but there are phone chargers and lanterns. in general they will take you to your tent via golf cart and you park your car by the registration tent (which does have power). there are games and activities in the main tent and there are grills, cornhole, and fire pits nearby.

the food at the on site embers cafe is generally good but pricey. locals recommended sunflower cafe nearby. uptown hearth is a tasty coffee shop in columbia falls.

FYI, no food allowed in tents. Ice chests with drinks only. In room bathrooms require you to hold down the handle( in the sink) , and the chain in the shower. Awkward as hell!! Be aware. Other than that, it’s kinda cool…

This is a 5 star experience. The tents are clean, comfortable, spacious and fun, with great space, lovely fronts porches with chairs and you really feel you are in the woods. The amenities are numerous and cater to the whole family, young and old! First, the tents…we had a suite, with its own bathroom, a king bed and a queen sofa sleeper. The beds were very comfortable and the bath was clean and convenient. I did check out the bathhouses and they were so clean and convenient if you choose a tent without its own bath. There is a great little cafe on property that serves breakfast (the pulled pork breakfast pita is AMAZING), as is the gyro for dinner!! There are fun kids programs (post card painting) and games (cornhole, yard connect4) in the common area and the kids loved, loved, loved the nightly s’mores around the campfires. We had live music on night 1 and there is always something planned in the evenings after you return from exploring Glacier NP. You do have to come prepared to “camp”….plan for the weather (if it’s cold you will need to keep your fire going at night) and there is road and train noise, but the supplied ear plugs take care of that easily. I highly recommend UnderCanvas Glacier for a stay at GNP!!

Loved the experience of staying at Under canvas. Great people, beautiful accomodations, wonderful friendly atmosphere. Two slight negatives, cost is a bit high and the location of this site is near a train line that runs all night (4 am whistle). The manager did explain this and earplugs are provided but if you are a light sleeper or noise sensitive this particular site may not be for you. Overall loved the stay

Unfortunately this location is literally off the main highway and you can hear the road noise all day and night. It makes it feel like a motel. The stove in the deluxe tent did not last more than 45 minutes and we got up several times to feed or restart the fire. We left a day early and we are experienced campers.

I did not hate it, but It was not great either - like a good idea which was not well implemented. This was meant to be a luxurious "safari tent" -like experience and it was priced as such, but the accommodations were uncomfortable and making guests comfortable is what luxury stays are all about.
The property has failed to provide good quality sleep - it was very noisy at night with the train horn waking us up every few hours ( I slept with noice cancelling headphones on) and there was super loud highway as well. they placed earplugs in the room, but that was useless
Also there were very stiff, uncomfortable and cheap pillows. For the price we have payed you would expect a luxurious bedding and those pillows were unacceptable. The furniture, while very aesthetically pleasing, was not comfortable to seat on.
Other less important things- there is one hairdryer for the whole camp which we were supposed to use and then bring back to the lobby tent - is a very cheap hairdryer. This was very inconvenient
The community fireplaces - not convenient at all. We had to go up or down the road to get there and most nights the seats around them were taken. There should be opportunity to have personal small fires by the tents. It would have been so nice to relax after running/ hiking all day by the fire and watch those beautiful stars and then go to bed.
The food was not bad, but the restaurant ambiance- it felt like an afterthought.

The location was convenient for the West Glacier visit.
The interior of the tent was very pretty and the camp area was overall nice. The bathroom facilities were always clean, and even though the nights were cold, the blankets were warm and the fireplace in the room was great to have.
There were plenty of clean high quality towels. The tea and coffee in the lobby were also high quality and great to have.
I was recognized as Hyatt globalist and given a credit to use during my stay.
So, in conclusion I liked how the place looked, but it wads not comfortable. I will definitely try other locations of Under Canvas as they there is a potential and hopefully they are better. However, there is a better clamping experience around.

We stayed at under canvas glacier and compared to other locations it's lacking. The location is directly on the road and the community area is in a high traffic area with cars entering and exiting. The restaurant is limited to include the bar and the activities on site were as well. We'd previously stayed at UC Acadia and the atmosphere had us booking this location a year in advance to try a new spot. Our trip to Glacier was amazing but the UC component basically didn't matter. I will say the park itself was VERY close which was great because staying at UC for when half a day wouldn't have really been an option to unwind. The last note I'd leave is wait for the UC specials to come out to book. We booked a year ahead out of excitement and I'm embarrassed to say how much we payed especially given the experience.

My family of 5 stayed at Under Canvas at their Glacier location this August and had an exceptional experience! This was our second time staying with UC. First was Grand Canyon and we loved it so much we thought we'd book Glacier and I'm so glad we did. The location is ideal for going into the park everyday, with less than a 10 minute drive to West Glacier! The property is safe and secure and they had a nice little cafe that had great breakfast and dinner options everyday. The staff was awesome!! Everyone we met was friendly and knowledgable and helpful. Our tent was cozy and they freshened it up for us each day while we were out exploring. 3 big fire pits for roasting marshmellows each night and all the "yard games" my kids love. I booked fly fishing and white water rafting before we arrived and it was so nice to know we were all set for our little adventure before we got there. UC had all the details printed out and ready for us upon arrival. I'd come back in a heart beat! Thanks to Caro for her above and beyond help and Lizzie for the awesome golf cart rides to our tent :)

There are several coffee places nearby, including the Glacier Highline restaurant which has an amazing breakfast. There’s also a coffee take out shop at the entrance to West Glacier. It’s all about a 10 minute drive from Under Canvas.

There are limited restaurants nearby. You’re kind of in a very rural area. It’s a good 10 minute drive for breakfast, I highly recommend the glacier Highland restaurant. 10 minutes in the other direction there is a grocery store. There are some other restaurants, we ate at Josephine’s twice, and there is actually a distillery as well.

No fire pits at each tent but several throughout the property. They also serve complimentary smores each night and have some forms of entertainment at the main pit. There are several charcoal grill tents with picnic tables for you to cook.
