Excellent value in this historic hotel in the charming town of Kalispell
Love the Grand Hotel Kalispell! It is right on the main street of the cute town of Kalispell, and the huge lobby and breakfast area look exactly like they would have in 1912, when in fact the hotel opened. Can't compliment the super friendly, helpful staff enough! And we enjoyed the popcorn and cookie snacks they put out each afternoon.
Breakfast was great - so nice that it wasn't the usual continental breakfast served at so many other hotels - the beautiful buffet featured homemade dishes such as quiches and fresh breads, which we loved.
Our room was very big, nicely appointed, quiet, with a roomy bathroom and sitting area. We just loved the Grand Hotel Kalispell and hope to return one day.
It was a great location from which to explore not only Kalispell, but Glacier National Park, about minutes away, the cute town of Whitefish, 20 minutes away (the Tuesday evening Farmer's Market is a load of fun!) and area attractions such as the wonderful Brash Rodeo in Columbia Falls, 30 minutes away, and local attractions such as the amazing Conrad Mansion. That was really incredible. The degree of curation and detail and the sheer number of artifacts is beyond belief. A must do!
And Kalispell has just about every possible shopping option known to mankind ! We enjoyed spending time at Cabela's and Lowe's and Walmart!

Staying at the Grand was a pleasure! We inadvertently made the reservation for a day later and arrived at the hotel with the front desk not knowing why we were there. To her credit, she rebounded quickly with a welcome and an immediate room. While the room was small, it was cozy and clean with many little touches. The hotel was full of small touches that showed a level of thought and concern for comfort. We were very pleased with the hotel and will stay there when we vacation again at Glacier.

I booked the room because it was the only hotel less that $300/night that was not on the highway. I was a little skeptical because of the price, but what a treat it turned out to be!

When I saw that they offered a continental breakfast I didn't think much of it. That was until I saw their homemade quiche, from scratch muffins, and baked oatmeal.
My bed was comfortable, the room newly redone, the sheets soft, and the homemade from scratch peanut butter cookies & chocolate chip cookies were made with real butter.

As an added bonus, they're in the middle of a historic downtown and across the street from a wine bar and a gastropub that makes a meatloaf served with mashed potatoes and a tomato-bacon jam that is OUT of this world!

To top things off, the staff was friendly & the windows actually open.

The hotel is nice! Clean comfy nothing more then a room to “sleep” but if you are a light sleeper the road noise here is ridiculous… they “cruise” (burn outs and drag race) the main road in front of the hotel until early hour hours in the night. Then street sweepers garbage trucks you name it all echo inside of the rooms. Was up all night listening to it. Tv didn’t work in our room and was to low to see over the wife anyways.

We have never shied away from the fact that we are in downtown Kalispell with the noise that comes from a downtown space. We do have sound machines and ear plugs at the front desk. There are also rooms that can offer a little less noise than others. Friday night, is Kruise Kalispell most Fridays through out the summer. They are supposed to be done by 9 or 9:30pm but there is always the kids in their big trucks revving their engines. In 1912 when Hotel Kalispell opened there was not a worry about traffic noise, everyone still traveled by horse and buggy. Phase 2 of renovations begin in Fall2024 and will take a couple of years to finish. They will replace windows with triple pane and upgrade the heating and cooling systems. That will be a huge factor in reducing the "downtown" noise. There are upgrades to come and we hope you will stay at another time to see what has changed for your comfort. It really is upsetting to us, that you did not have a comfortable stay and we would love to be able to make it up to you!

We went to Kalispell for my birthday weekend and were greeted warmly by Ellie upon arrival at the hotel. She checked us in and told us where to park overnight and we went up to our room.

The hotel is historic and so has seen numerous updates and changes over the years. The rooms are small, but nicely furnished. They aren’t luxurious, but you feel at home and so relax.

The only issue with the hotel is that the air conditioning units are those old school window ones, and they make it hard to shut out the noises from the street. This gets to be a problem when folks start tooling up and down the street at 2am with their crazy loud trucks.

We had a weird incident too whereby another guest decided to smash something heavy against our shared wall which woke both my wife and I, but this wasn’t anything to do with the hotel itself (you can’t account for other people).

The hotel provides parking at a very nearby parking lot, which is great and street parking is available overnight from 10am until 8am if you prefer.

As a diabetic, I needed to refrigerate insulin but the rooms don’t have fridges. The hotel was able to store it in their kitchen so that was fine and whilst there weren’t any coffee or tea making facilities in the rooms, both were always available.

In terms of location, the hotel is very central and easy to get to local bars and restaurants and within easy reach of everything the city has to offer.

We enjoyed our stay!

Thank you so much for leaving the kind words and rating! Our staff really appreciates being mentioned and praised for their kindness and hard work. We hope you will be able to make it our way again! The lobby has been expanded to it's original lay out with the addition of a main entrance to the front desk and elevator. We feel it has turned out beautifully and a good representation of the history of the building and the area as well. Phase 2 will start in fall of 2024 and will take some time to complete. They will be trading out the windows with triple pane and upgrading all the heating and cooling units in the rooms. That will take care of outside noise being so intrusive at any time of day or night. We still do our continental breakfast every morning and homemade fresh baked cookies every afternoon! We got to upgrade our kitchen! It's no longer in a closet under the stairs, it's so exciting! We are excited about all the updates and restoration being done, but we are more excited to show off and share with you. Everything is being done with the comfort of our guests in mind, while also keeping the important historical aspects of the building in place. The place to be in Kalispell since 1912, offering the best in simple pleasures of Montana hospitality!

We stopped here on our way to Glacier National Park. The hotel is in the middle of town. We had a pleasant stay. We were able to park our car right across the street. They had fresh cookies downstairs during the day. The hotel has an historic, older feel to it, which we enjoyed. Breakfast items were served individually wrapped and we felt quite comfortable eating there during COVID. Rooms were nice, but our only issue was the lack of space. Between the two of us and our suitcases, we didn't have much room to get around. The area felt safe. There was a mall and grocery stores near by, Whitefish was a 20 minute drive down the road, and it took us about 45 minutes to get down to Glacier.

What a great gem in the downtown area of Kalispell.
We loved the convenience of shops, restaurants and a short drive to GNP.
The lobby was inviting with large windows looking out to streets and comfortable dining.
Baked cookies , popcorn and coffee were always available for snacking.
The continental breakfast was delicious and perfect way to start the day.
Rooms were adequately supplied, comfortable and very clean!
Staff was friendly and helpful from providing information and assisting with any requests.

We have stayed at the Grand Hotel numerous times over the years and have noticed a marked decline in the overall experience. We stayed two separate nights. Both times the sinks would not drain properly despite a healthy application of Drain-O by front desk staff. We had a reservation for our 7/23 stay, but the front desk was going to charge me over $100 more than my reservation. I questioned the rate and the clerk stated that they had raised their rates. She quickly backed off that when I showed her my reservation.

Then at about 12:30 AM on 7/23, a loud chirping sound similar to a smoke detector whose battery is drained sounded off and on. After about 30 mins of that, I went downstairs to summon help. The night clerk left a note (looked like it was signed, Scott), stating that he would return in 5 minutes. After waiting 15 minutes, I left him a note requesting assistance - no one contacted me. The next morning the shower was barely lukewarm. I overheard staff talking and apparently, we weren't the only room with a cold shower problem. I had to brush my teeth with cold water.

The staff that does show up for work is pleasant and tries to be helpful. Upon checking out, I explained our troubles to the front desk who said she thought our room should be "comped," but we never did see any such accommodation.

Maybe our less than satisfactory experience has something to do with its new owners who thus far seem to be making mostly cosmetic changes.

The decor is lovely and the staff is friendly and helpful. The room was a little tight, but nicely furnished. There is an elevator and parking is provided at no extra charge at a street lot next door. The continental breakfast has "made from scratch" individually wrapped pastries and quiches that are excellent. Our only complaint was that there was no variety. We stayed five nights and had five breakfasts; the same quiche and the same pastries were offered every day. Ice, water, coffee, tea was available in the lobby at all times. The cost was similar to that of any major chain hotels in the area and was so much more unique and charming.

There is no lounge/bar at the hotel and there are few options available within walking distance, at least prior to Memorial Day. Perhaps more restaurants and bars are open later and every day during high season.
