Knepp - one of the largest re-wilding projects in lowland Europe. Encounter herds of wild ponies, cattle, deer and pigs as they roam 3,500 acres of Sussex, driving the forces of habitat regeneration. Join us on one of our vehicle-based safaris or guided walking tours and experience our profusion of birds, mammals, butterflies, beetles, reptiles, plants and fungi in a setting that feels as wild and dynamic as the African bush. Stay in one of our beautiful shepherd's huts or luxurious tents, or simply pitch your own in our exclusive Wildland campsite. You don't have to take one of our safaris to stay here, and you don't have to stay here to take a safari - though naturally we hope you'll be tempted to combine the two.

Knepp Wildland Safaris hotel garners praise for its well-appointed amenities, including a glamping kitchen and exceptionally clean showers, all set within communal spaces that offer stunning wildlife views. The service is frequently commended for its helpful staff and thoughtful touches like complimentary tea and coffee. While the rooms are celebrated for their comfort and cleanliness, some guests find them to be basic. Despite the allure of its charming and tranquil atmosphere, a number of travelers consider the pricing steep for the overall value received.

We stayed in the Purple Emperor Yurt for two nights and our friends camped in the main campsite and ate with us by the yurt This yurt has beautiful furniture, rustic antiques, a wood burner. The bed was comfy and the bedding all seemed very natural.
The Glamping kitchen is well appointed and it was easy to do our washing up there whilst social distancing. We didn't cook there, we used our firepit. Firewood is available at the shop a few meters walk away, £5 for a small bucket which for us cooked one meal. As well as the firepit we had a table with 4 chairs outside the yurt and a couple of wooden loungers without cushions.
The loos and bath house were kept clean and have lovely rustic recycled walls and doors etc. The aesthetic is all very natural and up-cycled.
The whole campsite is beautiful. We had flocks of goldfinches feeding on seed heads during our stay.
We had a peek at the treehouses which are more secluded in the wood behind the campsite, they look amazing.
There is a wild swimming pond very close to the camp site which we used, and found to be very peaceful and a great addition. It has a shower and a deck, and steps into the water.
The car park is a short walk away and wheel barrows are provided for luggage.
The safaris were all booked up so we took ourselves on the white walk, with a little detour to the hammer pond. We saw lots of the amazing storks on this walk, and their nest. All the walks are circular and long, this was the shortest at about 5km. I think it would be good to have at least one shorter one for those of us with limited energy or poor health.
It was a really enjoyable and interesting trip, our first time seeing re-wilded land, and such a wonderful project. The staff were all great too and the covid signage and protocols all good.

Walking through the antler arch with our wheelbarrow, we camped in the wild camping field, a lovely flower meadow, with the pitches marked out only by mown paths and circles. The mobile fire-pits allowed you to choose where you would sit in the evening, and the freedom and choice was a key aspect of the experience. The loos and showers were quite wonderful - quirky, antiques, upcycling furniture and hot rain water is lovely to shower in - we particularly like the open air one! Plentiful hand sanitizer in Hendrick's gin bottles made it easier to be covid19 protected without too many admonishing notices, and cleaning was done 4 times a day. Quite unbelievable to hear a turtle dove cooing from our tent! Another highlight was the hot bath in the open air at the Bathenon! An unforgettable stay!

We booked our stay back in November last year after reading Isabella Tree's amazing book Wilding.

In the time since booking, we were lucky enough to see Isabella talking at an event in Oxford and have followed all of the exciting updates, such as the Storks and hopefully the Beavers that will soon be joining. As this weekend approached, we started to worry that perhaps it was all just a lot of hype and that the reality wouldn't live up to our expectations. We couldn't have been more wrong.

The Knepp estate, the glamping and the Wildlife Safari were so perfect and blew us away. The campsite was so cosy and so rich in birdsong. The staff were all so friendly and definitely went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. It was so nice seeing the same staff at different points and them taking the time to ask about what you had been up to as well as being able to give useful tips and insights.

Even if you aren't able to go and stay at Knepp, we would fully recommend doing one of the Safaris. Our guide Rina was amazing, so enthusiastic and knowledgeable - I wish I had taken a notepad along to help me remember all of the information. She was able to answer all of our questions and she showed us some amazing sights. We could happily do a tour with her again!

Knepp is one of the most beautiful places that I've ever visited, being able to see animals roaming, interacting and shaping the environment around them was so special and in my cases breathtaking to see.

The tent we stayed in was brilliant and we had access to everything we needed, great quality showers and we took advantage of the wild swimming lake - although I was preparing myself for the cold water than I was actually in the cold water! I think they've planned for and have dealt with restrictions due to COVID brilliantly and we felt well informed and completely safe throughout.

We eagerly await next season's dates being available to book as we cannot wait to come back!

The large camping field was brilliantly organised and kept clean and topped up with sanitiser outside every building so it could be used before and after using the facilities. We felt very safe and were so lucky to have storks bill clattering behind our tent. We saw all the free roaming animals except roe deer. The breakfast basket was great.

My partner and I have stayed at Knepp before and it never disappoints. We come for the peace, connection with nature and beautiful wildlife walks around the estate. The campsite has everything you could need (even with lockdown restrictions); the outdoor shower is amazing and refreshing. We stayed during the hottest days of summer; after putting up our tent we made a beeline for the pond to cool down - bliss! We can’t wait to visit again soon when the beavers have settled into their new environment.

This campsite was stunning, clean and calm.

In this time of COVID, you have nothing to worry about staying here. They clean everywhere thoroughly and have hand sanitiser everywhere at your disposal. You certainly feel safe here.

The campsite experience itself was amazing, calm and picturesque without the sound of constant cars. the odd plane goes over but that doesn't disturb. The tent sections are clearly marked and each area has ample space. The staff are very pleasant.

The solar-powered showers are rather cool, especially the outdoor one. Although I had to move the wooden slat slightly as I felt I could still be seen over the tall fence. The smaller indoor showers are also nice and run well. Perhaps a little more light would help for you to see a little better. I wear glasses, as the lights were not too bright I had to scramble a little for my things.

I would highly recommend this campsite, I would definitely return.

The treehouse is tucked away in a wood, discreetly sited away from the other treehouse and a couple of yurts. So secluded you can walk around on the platform in the nuddy without being an exhibitionist when you use the outdoor bath. Which is fab. But needs timing to heat the stove and water.
The room is comfortable with a large bed and a stove for warmth and a kettle.
Cooking can be done on the firepit below or in a seperate communal area with cooker, fridge and a pizza oven.
Loo is a longdrop, 50yds from the house. There's outdoor showers and baths near the entrance to the camp if you wish.
You are on eye level with squirrels and birds and the tree canopy. Magical.
Only the sound of boy racers on the A24 marr the setting at times.
No WiFi, electricity or unnecessary amenities, so don't take your hairdryer!

Very well organised, very well spaced pitches mown out of the wildflower meadow surrounded by wildlife. Good loos and showers, and fire pits available to use.
Well geared up for Covid security.
I would strongly recommend visiting; I hope to be back.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights as a break away without the kids. We just loved it, it was exactly what we needed. The Yurt we stayed in was beautiful, spacious, clean tastefully furnished with a lovely wood burning stove o make tea and coffee on. We did a brilliant wildlife safari one day, I did yoga and had a massage another and we had a number of walks across the stunning 3500 site. Loved everything we learned about rewilding and loved seeing so many animals running free. Would love to come back.....babysitter permitting!

Having walked on the public footpaths and read Isabella Trees' best-selling book "Wilding", we were already big fans of Knepp, but camping made us want to talk about it and keep going back even more! Such a special place and such a treat to stay.
We felt instantly relaxed on arrival and fell in love with the circular pitches surrounded by the late summer meadow sead heads and all the quirky homemade furniture and personal touches to the campsite buildings, but the outdoor bathrooms were our highlight, even in the rain. After a long wet walk or a cold swim in their wild swimming pond the warm soaks were especially luxurious. Looking up at the oak canopy is mesmerising.
We also enjoyed star gazing and the dark walk to the local pub, which was very well signposted.
We were going to look for the storks on our last day, but didn't have to because they flew over the campsite as we were packing up. A perfect end to a perfect stay.
We will be back. Thank you!

What are check in/check out times please?
Answer from Trudi C

For the campsite, it should be check in about 2pm and leave by 11am if I remember. I didn't even start pitching my tent until well after 5pm though. I had already prepaid, so I didn't need to worry about times.

can you Park your car next to your own tent ?

No. It's a short walk from the car park but there are wheelbarrows to help carry your kit. And it's nice keeping cars away from the camping area to preserve the nature vibe.

I don't think any of the yurts have electricity but there is a kitchen hut very close by (20 second walk) with plug sockets for charging phones etc. The main reception building has plug sockets too.
