The High Plains Homestead is an amazing place. Mike and Linda are terrific hosts. Breakfast was served with a great slice of history courtesy of Mike. Peaceful and quiet. Amazing views all around - you feel like you are on the top of the world.

We stayed at the homestead for two nights. We'd never been to this part of the country and found the landscape to be absolutely fascinating. Yes, it's a long ride down a dirt road, but we were driving a Toyota Camry and had absolutely no problem getting there. We arrived for the Saturday night cookout and the steak dinners were...

We were camping at Ft Robinson and the folks there said it it worth a visit. We drive out, and if you like quiet, this is a good place for it. We only had drinks and talked with Crystal, the nice girl at the bar/restaurant. She was nice and friendly. I can only image the night sky out there, must...

Someone in the TripAdvisor forums recommended that we make the trip to High Plains Homestead on our way through to South Dakota. It required a long drive down dirt roads, but it was worth it! Not only was the food delicious, but the Cookshack was small and quaint and pretty awesome. There were only about 6 or 7 tables, but...

Planned to have lunch at The Drifter Cookshack on our way back to town from Toadstool. Fantastic place, great food, fun people. If you are in the area, and aren't put off by 17+ miles of mostly gravel, this place is So Worth the drive. Loved it, and will definitely be back. Hope to even stay in one of their...

Loved the charming rustic feel if this place. We were made to feel right at home by Linda and Mike. The food here is amazing and some of the best home cooking - stay for pie! Would return with my family and highly recommend this to anyone who are looking to get away from it all.

We stumbled across this neat little homestead on our way home from Toadstool Park and were thoroughly impressed with the food, ambieance and little town on the prairie! We did not stay overnight, so can not address that part of the homestead. The cookshack was unique, priced just right and delicious. We had a Indian Taco which was delicious! We...

We planned to stay here enroute to Mt. Rushmore. What an awesome stay. Mike and Linda were so accommodating. They were able to adjust dinner to accommodate for a food allergy. The room we were given was small and quaint. Like taking a step back in time to the 1800s. The bed was comfortable and we awoke refreshed and ready...

I have stayed at the Homestead for a couple of years, and have never been unsatisfied. The place is very unique and awesome. It is a great place to get away from it all. Mike and Linda are the nicest people around. Mike knows some amazing history of the area and isn't afraid to share it. The food is always...
