The location is great, it's just as you enter Manzanilla and easy to find. Their rates are great and I love that they offer day passes where you wanna treat yourself or your family to a beach house trip without spending any nights. The food was okay, the catered for vegetarians. They cooked soya for us! Who would've thought we would actually get a vegetarian protein? We're accustomed to settling for side dishes as a meal. So this was a definite plus. The room floor was not clean. They was a bottle on the ground. The bathroom area was clean though. The doors were old and rusty. The maintenance of the building has been neglected. The seabreeze and the view though....completely magical. I could sit there all day and all night. Overall the experience wasn't that bad. The customer service was warm and friendly. It's common village folk doing the best they could. With rates like this, don't go with extremely high expectations of a 5 star hotel. It's 2 star at best. But definitely worth a visit.

The drive to this manzanilla beach hotel is approx 1.5hrs,sum work is needed on the roadways to make it a relaxing one.
.

We stayed in the cocrico room.this room is very spacious, has flat screen tv, working ac, comfortable, quiet beds, the water pressure is ok and the shower water was warm enough.
There is no cable but access to a dvd player with dvds is available.

The restaurant is located in a position for you to get sea breeze and a view of the sea.the chef did a great job with the breakfast and lunch, the local cuisine were tasty and well prepared.

The pool water was not as clean and clear as it should be and a little cold even though the sun was hot.

The rooms are not totally noise and sound proof and conversations from the pool and adjacent rooms can be heard.

We booked this place because it was cheap. Based on the price alone, the place was not bad. The breakfast was not the best and the rooms were not the cleanest. The doors were not very secure, but the place was cheap. The pool was very nice and there was a lovely view on the water. The staff was excellent!

I was looking at this resort for about a month, but was nervous about booking so upon my arrival in Trinidad, we decided just to visit this hotel. What a nightmare. The place was a ghost town on a long weekend. The rooms are dirty dingy. Smelly and the room that the keeper showed me had no TV. When asked why he said it was gone for repairs because of the sea blast. I ask about the restaurant. It was closed. And do was the pool. For the bar, they lost their licence. Then he tried to charge me 500.00TTD approx 120.00 CAD. LOL with a straight face. Take this place off your site. It is RUN-DOWN.

I visited this place and I have to write about it. the beds are uncomfortable, the pool has no umbrellas hardly any chairs, the beach there is dirty, and dangerous to walk to. The owner is a idiot, who puts up a pretense for customers, talks a mile a minute and he's a jack of all trades, he will tell you himself about all the things he does, that alone was a turn off. the staff was ok, not very safe, stragglers pass by often, not enclosed or guarded. Bathrooms need repairs, need new linens, new chairs, new everything. its' run down to de ground much like the owners face as he greets you.

My husband and I spent 4 days at Coconut Cove from August 26 – 29, 2011. Prior to our arrival I had made several phone calls for room details, menus etc. On each occasion my inquiries were promptly and pleasantly answered.

What can I say? We arrived at Coconut Cove and were blown away by the many potholes filled with rain water that dotted the road to the property. They were so daunting that our resilient personal driver decided that she was afraid to drive into them loaded down with people and luggage and was afraid of getting stuck. I called the owner who came down in his car, worked with us to transfer our luggage and drove us to the property. While we were grateful for the service, bottom-line, all it would take would be a couple trucks of gravel to make that situation better for arriving guests. It’s all in the details as I always say and first impressions count.

We’d been warned a month earlier that “the credit card machine was down, so bring cash”. We brought cash. The more cynical side of me suspects that having seen their rooms, there would be lots of credit card charge backs from disappointed guests. Cash greatly reduces that likelihood. But that’s just me!

We’d requested a second floor room with a king bed. We were placed in D’Chaconia Room with a Queen bed (no kings are available). It’s probably easiest to do a list of pros/cons for my review of this property so here goes:

Pros
· Friendly and responsive owner

· Great location – it was great to wake up and go to bed to the sound of waves

· Some meals were OK like Saturday lunch (pumpkin rice, stewed peas) Sunday breakfast (bakes, salt fish, corned mutton) Sunday lunch (macaroni pie, calalloo, stewed chicken)

· Wireless worked OK for the most part (you need a code)

· Lots of cool sea breezes

Cons
· Scary potholes at entrance to road where resort is located

· Some meals were not very good (rubbery, non-yellow eggs at breakfast; cold turkey bacon, etc)

· Rooms and service need some major TLC – we arrived to an a/c unit that struggled to keep us cool, torn patches in bed spread, uncomfortable bed, no shower head, no toilet paper, no towels, no washcloth)

· When we eventually got towels they had rust stains on them. I kid you not! We never got a washcloth. BTW, the shower was a joke! That thing sputtered like you'd never believe. My husband finally gave up on using his body wash and a pouffe because he could never get suds going with the sputtering shower head!

· No daily room cleaning unless requested

· Few chairs around pool, the ones that are there are majorly heavy and uncomfortable

· Limited shade – a few umbrellas would be great and would help to make guests more comfortable

· Walls are very, very thin. Our next door neighbor watched movies all weekend and we knew the plots to all of them!

· No TV service – you need a cable to access DVD player which we didn’t have, no one offered it, so we watched our DVDs on our laptop.

· I’d reconsider swimming in the pool. I twice saw a female staff member talking on a cell phone who walked about the property barefoot, then dipped her feet in several times one night. I wish I had my camera handy.

· Be careful of ants. We kept our luggage off the ground on chairs and our snack bags on the table. Even so, there were ants around. It wouldn’t hurt to have a can of insecticide with you.

The food was OK for the most part, so it probably makes sense to go with the meal plan, since there are no other dining options in the area that we could see.

A big issue that I forgot to mention ... the door had one lock that was really iffy. There was no security bar like at every hotel (even motel) we've stayed in. One swift kick and we would have had "visitors" joining us in our room. We actually placed luggage behind the door and hung clothes hangers on the door handle so we would be alerted if someone tried to break in. I'm pretty fearless but, we would have been foolish to not be concerned about the weak door and lock.

Coconut Cove succeeds because it apparently has lots of local support (sold out during the time we were there), it has a great location and apparently its guests have less demanding tastes. While OK for a weekend getaway, I really couldn’t see an out-of-the-country tourist arriving with the intention of spending their entire time at the property. IMHO there are too many rough edges to make this a “resort”.

At the end, the owner arrived as we were leaving and asked how things were. What could I say? Coconut Cove is what it is. I’m not sure listing a bunch of my concerns to him would help much. The simple fact that we arrived a month after making a reservation and our room still had no shower head, no toilet paper, no towels etc is a good indicator of this "resort's" attention to detail. I even called the day before to confirm our arrival.

I have taken the time to itemize issues here, so that potential guests have the real picture and are not surprised like we were. I have no issues with a property having lax quality, but I passionately believe that visitors should know the issues beforehand, so they can make an informed decision as to whether they should spend their vacation dollars there.

BTW, you will notice that many of the pictures of the "resort" show the outside environment? That's a good clue IMHO!

All in all, we didn’t have a truly miserable time, but by the same token, would we go back? That’s doubtful. HTH

As always, feel free to PM me with any detailed questions about the "resort" or Trinidad in general.

Happy travels, everyone!

Huh where do I start. Don't waste your time and money. The pool is filthy and the place need a lot of renovation. The only good thing is that it's close to the sea. The kitchen and dinning was dirty and the food was tasteless.

My cousin was getting married and her venue was 15 mins away so she booked the entire Coconut Cove Holiday Beach Club out, all 12 or 13 rooms. The plan was for family to head up on the Saturday afternoon, go to the wedding venue (which was on the way) and later on go to the hotel. Having stayed in many hotels before, the practice has been that one can check in any time after the scheduled check-in time. We got to the reception venue at approximately 5 pm and saw family outside. They had decided to not stay there but go onto to the hotel because of Dennis (the owner of the establishment) constantly calling the bride to be to find out whether or not we were coming! Imagine the further stress he put on her!

So we went down to the hotel and got wasted even more time trying to sort out rooms. Some had a stench, the A/C was leaking in an least one of them (a bucket was their "solution") and in at least 1, the mattress was ridiculously thin, so much so that the family member refused to sleep on it and opted for the floor instead! We asked about wifi service and we received the password but the wifi range is basically by the office and car park, so it was of no use to us while in our rooms. We did, though, have tvs in each room, some were flat screens others weren't but none of them had cable or direct tv or anything...just a DVD player attached. So to use the tv we would have had to go down to the office to borow (free of charge) dvds from their selection. I didn't go but i don't imagine it would have been a wide variety. So after the dust had settled, we got back to the wedding venue in darkness to start our task of decorating. Needless to say, this could have been avoided.

On the day of the wedding, we were again down completing the decoration while the bride was at the hotel. She had to come to the venue earlier than planned because of there not being any water in her room! Thank goodness when we got there to get dressed we had, so we put it down to a minor problem. (The shower heads are awful! Rusty, clogged & so they spray water outside the shower and all!)

Most of us planned to leave the next morning after the wedding so we walked with our work clothes all ironed to go. (Our room had no cupboard to hang anything! Thank goodness we had a couch and so draped out suit bag over that) We got up and took a shower and were packing things back into our car when other family members informed us that there wasnt any water! So we gave them the keys to our room to check there as we had bathed and everything without any issues. When they went, the water was low and it too went. So it is apparent that Dennis has no water tanks for his club, madness!

Because of the awful weather that weekend, the poorly maintained car park was muddy. So we we had to choose parking spots to try to avoid falling into a pit.

So, for such accomodations we paid $500 TTD per night (Single room). While this may be good depending where in the US you go, this is a bit demanding given the conditions we were in. I wouldn't be caught there again.

The photographs of this hotel are very deceptive. Yes, from a distance it does look like the brochure, but as one would expect, all the photographs are carefully edited and framed. The hotel suffers from the effects of a corrosive beachfront location on the cheapest building materials available. I arrived at the hotel purely by accident after the one I was supposed to be staying in down the road was closed. At first all looked promising when the manager kept the chef on late to cook for us although it was only 8pm. At the half finished reception he quoted us $100 per person per night, which seemed outrageously expensive but I think he could see we would have paid anything for a room at that time of night. For that price, we had high expectations which were very quickly dashed.

All the rooms looked to be similar and are named after the islands' wildlife inhabitants. My room was D'Toucan; the plastic delaminating nameplate covered in paint splatters was barely attached to the very thin front door from which most of the paint had peeled. After an hour long search a key was finally found which fitted the badly corroded D'Toucan lock. Strangely it had the name D'Pelican on it, a room three doors down from mine but it transpired that all the room keys opened D'Pelican and the D'Pelican key fitted some of the others including mine.

The front door to my room was so flimsy that it could have been simply pushed open with very little force. This was of particular concern as I was in Trinidad on a filming trip and I had a lot of very expensive camera equipment in my room. To add to the security nightmare, we found the main gate to the hotel compound wide open and unattended the following morning. The sliding aluminum doors opening from my room to the semi-private patio were as flimsy as the room door and frequently jammed.

The doors to the fitted wardrobes were so badly warped that some were wedged permanently open while other could not be opened at all. When I finally managed to force one open it concealed an array of disintegrating shelves and a rusty fuse box with bare wires hanging out. of it.

Like the concrete paving outside the room, the tile floors of the bedroom and the ensuite bathroom were spattered with paint making the whole hotel look as though it had been very carelessly built and maintained.

In the bathroom, the shower curtain was old and stained and the shower tray crudely thrown together with concrete and chipped tiles. The shower head spluttered rather than drenched although there was hot water.

The basin was hanging off the wall with the waste pipe broken so water simply poured onto the floor The bathroom smelled predominantly of drains.

Outside the swimming pool looked inviting, but on the one occasion I had time to use it, I couldn't see my feet in 4' of water.

The hotel is in an amazing position right on the wild palm fringed beach which stretches for miles in both directions. Sadly though, the hotel frontage onto the beach is made up partly of a crumbling and subsiding wall and partly of an ugly jumble of broken concrete. Once this obstacle has been negotiated and you are finally dipping those toes in the warm Atlantic Ocean
you are confronted with mile upon mile of beach strewn with brightly coloured plastic rubbish.

On the plus side, my AC worked well and the food in the dining room was surprisingly good even though there was no choice and it came ready plated up. The beer was cold.

It's easy to see the potential of this bit of the coastline, but unless someone cleans up the beach, it doesn't matter how gorgeous or otherwise the hotel is, there seems very little to attract visitors.

you can call 691-5939 or 396-5358. It's a beach resort and not a beach club. It is a cozy little resort, simple but beautiful. The pool opens 24/7 and is safe to bathe even after midnight. there's a restaurant with different meal packages. I was there this weekend only left this afternoon. I will be back.
