In 2019 we were at the Palace Hotel Bürgenstock twice, once in March and once in august. The location and the spa incl. outdoor pool is always a highlight.

In March we had a deluxe alpine view room with balcony. Tip: ask for a corner room (e.g. no. 420), the corner rooms have a side view of the lake.
In august we had an executive room Lake View with terrace (no. 112). Both rooms were the same size, same furnishings and differed only in the location and size of the balcony and the balcony furniture. The terrace in no. 112 was huge, but unfortunately no deck chairs and uncomfortable lounge furniture. No. 420 had no balcony furniture. The price difference is enormous. My tip: book a room with alpine view, the view to the mountains is also very nice and enjoy the lake view in the spa and on the terrace/bar.

The service was not satisfying during both stays, especially during breakfast. Breakfast for all guests of the Palace AND the Bürgenstock Hotel was served at the Spices Restaurant. Spices was too small for the many guests. There were long waiting times for a table, there was far too little service staff, which was hopelessly overstrained (orders were forgotten, 20 minutes waiting time for an order...) and the staff did not come to the buffet with refilling. On the last morning, breakfast took place in a reception hall of the Palace. The buffet was a mini buffet and not comparable to the one in Spices. On the positive side, the breakfast tables were on the beautiful terrace with less crowd.

We liked the outdoor pool, where there was hardly ever a crowd and a relaxed atmosphere (except for sometimes screeching children in the baby pool).

The Bürgenstock hotels are overrun by day tourists. This has the consequence that the hotel appears less exclusive and there is a crowd at many places.

Altogether a beautiful place, the balancing act between day guests and the exclusivity for hotel guests is a problem. The service has to be improved to make the hotel a real 5 star hotel. Here, the Park Hotel Vitznau is miles ahead.

We were greeted in our room with a delicious birthday cake, bottle of champagne, chocolates and fruit platter for my son’s 10th birthday.

The staff at the Lakeview bar has been excellent! Anatasja at the Lakeview Bar knows what our kids off the menu drink is after the first night and remembered exactly what we each like. My kids felt very special that she remembered their Shelly temple drink every dinner!

The diamond dome indoor tennis court is the best I have played before - special thanks to staff (Thomas) at the Diamond Dome is wonderful in helping us schedule our bookings.

The kids loved the spa and all the staff at the spa has been wonderful and has made this a very enjoyable and memorable staycation.

The only improvement we have is the staff at the Oak-grill pool bar. He forgot my kids order and lied about it. We would have appreciated if he just admitted he has forgot the order. How do we know? Well we ordered the kids menu 10 mins before we even decided what we want and when the bill comes, we received two separate bills and the kids’ order was timed 30 mins later than ours!

I love staying at Burgenstock as well as Palace Hotel. The rooms in Palace are fantastic and considering how much cheaper it is than Burgenstock, I'm always amazed at how spacious and generously appointed the rooms are. I usually pay a little extra for access to Alpine Spa as it's an experience in itself. The Spices restaurant is just amazing for both dinner and breakfast :) I love this place and come as often as I can. There is no other hotel around with the same level of offerings at the same standards

The resort is very nice with breathtaking views over Lake Lucerne. The breakfast (in Spices restaurant) and the Spices restaurant with four different kitchens is amazing. Generally the views, the facilities and the ambience is very good just the rooms in the palace resort are too small with small windows (for a value of 550 per night!). Also Spa and parking is not included in the room price and they are quite expensive add ons (even for Switzerland standards...). Too overpriced. Generally the staff was helpful and friendly

Of course your overall experience can be dependent a little bit upon weather conditions because in case of heavy snow or fog and clouds the views could be affected. Generally our stay was negatively affected by the fact that although the resort was obviously almost empty, we asked for a free room upgrade and they charged us 100 extra per night for it! The upgrade was not worthing at all because the advertised "lake view" was anyhow a very small room with just a small window looking over the lake. Also the SPA facilities were closed due to maintenance and many other resorts facilities as well. We had to go to another hotel (outside) if we would like to have SPA and to pay 100-chf extra per day. Not to be misunderstood, it was not a bad experience at all just it does not worth 550 chf per night staying for that type of room! The prices should have been at least 20% less and the SPA should be included in the room price booking! And more important than all the reception staff should have been flexible enough to understand the situation and take the smallest extra mile required to satisfy the customer in a period that obviously was not the peak season for the hotel!

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your latest experience at the Bürgenstock Resort with Tripadvisor users. We are indeed glad that you enjoyed the breathtaking views over Lake Lucerne as well as our Pan-Asian restaurant Spices Kitchen and the general ambience of the resort. Guests staying at our Waldhotel or Bürgenstock Hotel are enjoying the comfort of even more spacious rooms and included services such as the Spa entrance. We regret that the size of the rooms did not live up to your expectations. Since the Palace Hotel is a building from the early 20th century the room layout indeed varies between the categories. However, larger rooms are available. We would be happy to fully convince you during a future stay, perhaps in one of our Suite rooms at the Palace Hotel or if you wish to experience another Hotel within the resort. We are taking into consideration your comments in order to improve our offer. Next time, do not hesitate to let us know your suggestions for improvement directly on site, we welcome your feedback. We can’t fix the past but you have our commitment to continually improve the experiences offered at the Bürgenstock Resort and the way our staff serves every customer. Best regards, Robert P. The Palace Hotel is not a Palace Hotel. It's merely a building connected to the Buergenstock Hotel by a corridor in the basement with a questionable "history exhibition". The website is misleading as it represents the Palace Hotel with its own lobby, common areas , outdoor terraces, bar etc,. Please don't blame Covid which doesn't justify that you don't advertise the hotel experience properly and that one is basically being housed in a dependance. The rooms have nothing special , are decorated like a middle class congress hotel and other than the view have no amenities.. We had a balcony with outdoor furniture without cushions. The bathroom is located right next to the bed which is unfortunate when you travel as a couple. All in all the experience is far from one described on your website or compared to similarly priced properties. Very disappointing.

A series of mishaps and subpar remediation effort by management .
1) room rate indicates room upgrade upon availability. When I checked in, I asked if there was chance of upgrade and answer is no as hotel is running full. I checked on my phone for same day availability and see bookings available for most room types so not sure what their policy of upgrade is . In short don’t put too much faith on the upgrade happening. But I consider this to be a minor thing .
2) when I got into the room , was pleasantly surprised to see an electronic toilet bidet. Sat on it to use it and …. It doesn’t work . Called the front desk who sent a couple of technicians to come fix it . Took about an hour for them to fix as it was broken basically . Not sure how housekeeping could have missed this .
3) while waiting for the technicians to fix my toilet decided to check out the mini bar and … I see the minibar flooded. Investigated and concluded the nespresso machine is leaking water . Minibar lights were flickering probably from the water spill. Called housekeeping who came over to try and fix it .
4) at this time I have technicians fixing my toilet and housekeeping fixing my nespresso. Called the manager to complain that this was unacceptable and the reply was “ what can we do for you ? “ I mean seriously you should be telling me what YOU can do right ?

Ok In totality the problems were not overly serious. Everything was fixed In an hour and everything was fine after. If this was a 4 stars hotel or lower I would have accepted it , but this is a 5 stars resort with my room costing more than 1.2k chf. At this price point , I am expecting perfection. And if something goes wrong , I definitely expect some effort in making up for it .

My final advice ? Stay in Lucerne and take a day trip to the alpine spa .

Dear Mrs MiraAsia, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your recent stay. Receiving feedback from our guests is always very helpful for us, whether it is positive or negative. Please be assured that the points you mentioned are of course not up to our standards and we are deeply shocked. Unfortunately, the room upgrades cannot always be guaranteed in our high season and as described in the package, these are subject to availability. Due to high occupancy we were unfortunately unable to offer you the room upgrade, but please be assured that we always strive to provide our guests with a wonderful room. We sincerely hope to welcome you back soon and hopefully convince you to stay at the Bürgenstock. Best regards, Christian Sack General Manager Bürgenstock Hotels & Resort

For openers, I need to say that we very much enjoyed our two-day stay at this hotel. The Reception folk were gracious, the Concierge staff was most helpful, the room was more luxurious than I'd expected, the property a joy to wander around. The ease of getting back and forth from Luzern by funicular and ferry was an amazing study in clockwork Swiss efficiency So what's the problem, you might ask. Niggling stuff really. Towels and washcloths were an issue. We never know from one time to the next what would be there when we returned to the room. Started with a full compliment of such things and we both took showers before going out to dinner after a 12-hour transit from the states. Hung them all up to dry and reuse and returned to find that ALL had been removed and not replaced by housekeeping! We called and got resupplied. The next day. Used items ONE TIME and all of it was replaced EXCEPT for wash cloths! Curious. We were leaving in the morning so we let it go. It just seemed there was some confusion in the housekeeping department. Then there was the issue with our first breakfast. The host seated us with menus and it them seemed that we were abandoned. Several servers were milling about resetting places and setting up umbrellas, etc, but not one came to either ask about coffee/water or if we had made choices for the meal. Merely subtly calling attention to our presence was of little use. It took about 10 minutes for the first bit of interest to be shown. Eventually breakfast was fine but we choose to go indoors on the second day. I don't think the waitstaff had been at their jobs very long or they didn't know their stations that morning. All of that said, We DID enjoy our stay and I especially liked oogling the Ferraris that were on display in the parking lot!

Dear WesternNYTravelFrog, We're thrilled that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay at the Bürgenstock Resort. Your kind words about our Reception team, the helpful Concierge staff, the room, and the overall delight of wandering our property are greatly appreciated. It's delightful to know that you found the funicular ride and the boat trip to Lucerne to be a highlight of your visit. We're glad you took advantage of this opportunity to explore the surrounding area with ease. However, we understand that even in the most enjoyable experiences, there can be minor issues that can affect the overall impression. Your feedback is very important in helping us improve and avoid such occurrences in the future. We're sorry to learn about the initial hiccup during breakfast. Your experience does not reflect the level of service we aspire to provide, and we appreciate your understanding. Please rest assured that we will address this matter with our waitstaff to ensure that every guest feels well-attended from the moment they are seated. It's wonderful to know that despite these minor issues, you still found true enjoyment during your stay. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future, where we will be introducing new services, dining options and amenities to further enhance your stay with us. Kind regards, Thomas Goval Acting General Manager Bürgenstock Hotels & Resort

I was invited to stay in the hotel as part of a business trip. Of course it is a super location with stunning views and this for me would be the main attraction.

But For what you pay the normal rooms are completely overpriced and not worth it….too small and not special enough, especially if you intend to go hiking and not use the room or the facilities….

For breakfast, you cannot even help yourself. The buffet is not available for self choice, but you must take a menu to choose your croissant….but then you get a huge plate of bread and other things you do not need or want and I am sure get thrown afterwards - I hate to image the waste from this….for me the “luxury” breakfast is being able to wonder through a Buffett an choose what I want and the amount I want….casually and as often as a I want. I don’t need a waiter service….

If you feel you need the luxury and stay on a hotel with a bunch of Ferraris parked out front to make you feel good, then go ahead. But if you don’t need this in your life, then spend the money on better things instead….I would not bother to come again, I would spend the same more boutique hotel not pointless luxury and a name….

Dear David W, thank you very much for your feedback. It is always extremely valuable for us to receive feedback from our guests, whether positive or negative, as this is the only way we can continually improve our service. Indeed, we have deliberately decided against a breakfast buffet in order to pamper our guests even more, as they remain relaxed at the table and we take care of them all around. In fact, this also allows us to reduce food waste, as a buffet always has to look great and be refilled until the last guest arrives. Of course, we understand that you would like to go through a buffet and be inspired by the different dishes. But our staff are always available to help you make decisions. Nevertheless, I would be delighted to welcome you back soon. Kind regards, Christian Sack General Manager Bürgenstock Hotels & Resort

The view from the room, the terrace and the bar were one of the best in Switzerland. It was not just a big lake, a mountain or a fancy city. It was all of them composing a lively picutre in our eyes. We enjoyed the view during our entire stay.

The services were largely speaking great! Staff at the front desk, the restaurants and the spa were all super professional and friendly. The Lakeview Bar was always a bit too busy so we had to attract the attention of the waiters in different ways.

The alpine spa is great for relaxing and enjoying a peaceful time especially in the afternoon.

Dear Rama Thank you very much for your request! Your little Bürgenmutz may, of course, join us in our pools - but only if accompanied by an adult. We have 1 outdoor swimming pool in the park, this one even has a play pool for children but unfortunately, it is not heated (only open in summer). We have a great 35° heated Infinity Edge Pool and a 30° warm indoor pool. We also have a natural pool, but it is in the nude area which is only accessible from 16. We also have a great kids club, the Mützliburg, with a castle, mini funicular and mountain paradise for children from 3 to 12. We are looking forward to your visit and greet you from the Bürgenstock Resort, Michael De Silva
