Accurately billed as Las Vegas' "Most Historic Hotel," the Golden Gate has stood the test of time and then some. Since opening as the Hotel Nevada in 1906, this modest and cozy corner establishment has stood placidly at One Fremont Street while the town -- and the world -- changed around it. Most notably, the Fremont Street Experience was built right outside its door. Very little has changed to compromise the hotel's old school charm in the intervening years, although Golden Gate has made improvements and modernized. The hotel remains proudly dwarfed by its neighbors, at just 106 rooms. The rooms themselves, on the other hand, have been updated and include modern amenities like flat screen televisions and iHome clock radios. The casino is just as active as opening day - and just as intimate - although now its boasts Dealer Dancers from 6PM to 2 AM. Even as Las Vegas builds toward the heavens,Golden Gate keeps close to the ground, rooted in its rich and wildly successful history.

I have been going to the Golden Gate for 35 years. They used to have a Deli where you could get a Beer and a Shrimp Cocktail for 3 $, about 8 years ago they removed the Deli. We then used to go play then eat at DU Parrs, about 5 tears ago the removed DU Parrs. We then used to go play and we would 25 $ on our card to Gamble and 25 $ for food at the D (no place to eat at the Golden Gate) . This trip they took our temperature and wanted ID to get into the Casino. When we went to players club they told me if i lost 100 $ I would get 5 $ to Gamble and a 5 $ food credit. I am little sad but we will not be back.

The building has a lot of history. It's at the end of Fremont so you get to have music right outside the casino doors and walk the Fremont Experience with ease. The rooms are cute but unfortunately, ours was very hot. Due to it not being "summer season" we weren't able to get any cool air in the room, so we opted for a box fan. It was still very hot and sweaty for sleeping.

We stayed at the Golden Gate for 5 nights. Pros outweigh the cons! I have been in the travel industry for over 30 years, so I do critique honestly. Pros, love that this hotel only has 140+ rooms, this makes check-in a breeze and no long lines. You have to request that you prefer a room away from Fremont Street so that you can have some semblance of quietness, but I was given that so sleeping was not a problem. Room was clean, and renovated so that was also a plus. Parking is another positive you walk a little way, and you are at your car - no parking garages or elevators and long line going in or out, so it being a small hotel is still a great positive.
Cons, you have to remember that this hotel is very old and it has been remodeled some but the ambiance and history overcomes that issue. Also, no restaurant on the premises but lots to choose from across the street at The Plaza or the sister property Circa across the sidewalk on Fremont.

The Golden Gate is the oldest casino in las vegas and was established in 1906! There is still some furniture in the hotel lobby area that remains, since its early days. There are historic and famous photos, throughout the walls of this casino, that were ta taken here in the past. The pit bosses and the dancing dealers still wear the type of dress attire that was worn, during that period of time.
There is one long bar here that is called the Prohibition Bar, which provides and great social scene for both tourist and locals. I really like the music played here because they play both popular American and Spanish pop songs. Unlike the D, they do turn down the music during the early morning hours when the business has slowed down.
The Rooms are very nice and everything is a great deal for the lower rates in comparison to other Las Vegas Casinos. There are no restaurants here, but there is a food court at the Plaza across the street. The Circa is a sister hotel./casino next door and has plenty of drinking and restaurants, plus has pool access. What really separates this casino is the splendid customer services that is provided on a daily basis by every single department. It is a cozy place for me to socialize and I have came here for 21 years now!
This location on the FSE is much safer, but you still have to use common safety sense,
Please feel free to check out my autobiography and travel book that just got released on Amazon, under author jefferson lee. Thanks for your time!

They have cock roaches.. it's authentic as far as the casino/ old vegas feel But do not stay there they are roach infested, they won't refund your money either if you want to leave. They know they have these large flying Roach issues so when you complain they are non-chalant. Also the rooms are tiny and no good air, they give you fans if you can't take the heat. Good place to visit, hang out gamble get a good old time feel but if you want to sleep comfortably DO NOT STAY AT GOLDEN GATE

We went with our friends for a LV weekend getaway. My friends husband is super cheap and decided we should stay at this “hotel” because it was only $35 a night. Well we arrived and went to our rooms and found out why it was so cheap. The rooms where so small a queen bed barely fit in the room. The chair in the corner was all torn up and worn out. The bathroom also super small, the door hit the toilet. The cherry on top was the bloody bandaid we found on the bathroom floor. Our room’s view was of the roof of the casino, nothing else. Our friends room was also as small but smelled like stale smoke really bad.

We ended up grabbing our things and leaving and booking a room on the strip. The hotel called me after the second day and said housekeeping had noticed there were not belongings in the room. We advised why we left and they did refund two nights of our stay. However no apology or anything. This place would probably work if on a budget and don’t care about your room at all but just wasn’t for us.

This has been my favorite location in downtown las vegas for many years now. This hotel.casino was established in 1906 and is the oldest las vegas casino. It irritates me when the travel channel states that the Flamingo Casino is the oldest, which is off by around 40 years. There are a lot of historic pictures and historical items throughout the casino.
What really makes this special with the locals and tourist is their splendid customer service provided by their employees. They have a very good employment screening process and there is not one single employee in any department that I have had negative issues with over the years. Everyone is treated like friends and family, which draws customers to keep returning here.
They casino did some recent renovations, which included a sportsbook section.
I really like their music here that consist of American and Spanish pop music and they have the sexiest female workers here in all departments, as well. They have some attractive male bartenders to keep the ladies interested in the process.
There is a popular band stage outside the doors on the Fremont Street Experience and they have good security to promote and comfortable social scene.
I have not been inside the rooms for awhile, since i am a local, but tourist tell me that they have decent rooms, as well.
To conclude, this is the best kept secret on the FSE and is worth checking out!

We were put here after our original hotel screwed up our reservation, I did not choose this place. We asked for a quiet room since a delayed flight had us arrive after 2:00am. We were put in room 408 which was a corner room overlooking Fremont St. One window looked out at the stage that had a heavy metal cover band playing until 3:00am, the other window looked out at the spinning illuminated sign (think Kenny Rogers Roasters from Seinfeld). The room was small, dark, dingy, worn and dated. The bathroom had 1 light bulb and no ventilation. It was very difficult to adjust the water temp in the shower. The thermostat was set at 90 and was blowing full blast. We were able to turn on the air but it never really cooled down. Thankfully, we only had to stay 1 night before moving to our original hotel. The Golden Gate was, by far, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Spend a few extra dollars and go anywhere else!

I stayed at the Golden Gate on August 24-August 30. I booked earlier in the year and took advantage of a great price. $324 for six nights resort fees and taxes included. Obviously with travelers returning, the price increased. At one time the cost was close to $800. So I really got a great deal. Going in, I knew this was NOT a 5 star hotel. However, I have no complaints. It was clean for the most part, quiet (I requested at check in) and all the employees were friendly. If you wanted more frequent housecleaning, you could request it. I chose, on occasion, just to receive towels. I did not gamble or eat inside, so cannot comment. NEVER had any of the problems other reviewers are posting.

Meeting friends in Las Vegas for a hiking trip to Arizona. So I needed an inexpensive room for only 1 night in the Fremont area, and the Golden Gate Hotel seemed like a decent option (great location, close to public transportation, restaurants, etc). Well it was not a good option. Upon checking in in the afternoon, the front desk girl pulled out an enormous bag of ear plugs and handed me a pair. I asked what they were for. "It gets noisy here at night" she stated. Told her, I'm a heavy sleeper and wouldn't need them. But she insisted, so I took them. My room: small, dark, dingy and depressing, with several more packs of ear plugs on the night stand and under the tv. Bathroom so small it's door took up half the area. The rooms a/c vent was caked with dirt and hanging dust clumps. And there was only 1 small window in the room which overlooked the west end of E Fremont St. Had to stand on a chair to look out of it, only to find an empty stage about 200 feet away. Long story short: Around 9pm is when the live music started from the stage, and it continued nonstop until 4 am! The noise was so deafening that my room walls and little window were vibrating, making it impossible to sleep, even with the earplugs. Tried to change rooms but the hotel was fully booked. Was forced to accept the situation as I was checking out at 7am. Hotel doesn't have a restaurant either. Had to walk to Denny's for breakfast as they were the only place in the area that was open for food at that hour.

There is no place to eat at the Golden Gate. The bar is open 24 hours. If you have comps they can be redeemed at The D casino. The 4 Queens has the best prime rib and Hash House at the Plaza has excellent breakfast and lunch. Both are just short walks.
