Having visited Rossington Hall on several previous occasions and being very impressed with the venue, food and staff each time, we didn't need to think twice about booking their 2022 Christmas in Residence package. Arriving Christmas Eve (and staying until the morning of the 27th) we were cared and catered for from the moment we walked through the grand entrance way. The hall is always beautifully appointed, even more so during the festive period when the roaring fires and charming decorations evoke Christmases of a bygone era. Subtle wood smoke in the air, soft carols in the background, twinkling lights in every room - absolutely perfect. We chose to stay in The Blue Room which boasts all the expected amenities - including a very well stocked refreshment station, a sumptuous bed, more than enough storage space and a particularly splendid bath/wet room with large original windows looking out on the well kept grounds. It is all spotlessly clean and the towels, robes, toiletries and bed linen are high quality. Every last detail of our winter break had clearly been thought about very thoroughly and with great care. We even had our very own mini Christmas tree in our room which was a lovely touch. No sooner had we unpacked than we received a delivery of champagne and pre-dinner nibbles. After exploring the various downstairs room to admire the beautiful decorations (and sample the complimentary gin and whisky bar), it was then on to the 7 course tasting menu which was definitely up there as one of the best I've ever experienced. Served in the warm and welcoming library, we were treated to course after course of truly delightful food, all paired with expertly matched wines. My particular favourite was the pigeon with apple mash and a creamy cider sauce but, honestly, it was all amazing. The staff were, again, wonderful, presenting dishes with a flourish and talking diners though the accompanying drinks, then melting into the background leaving us to enjoy our meal. The next morning was Christmas Day and what an amazing place to wake up to open your presents. Father Christmas had even left a selection of (very well curated) gifts outside our room! Breakfast in bed was then served (with a glass of port for me and Bucks Fizz for him) after which we explored the grounds in an effort to work off last night's meal and build up an appetite for our next one. After a Christmas cocktail in the drawing room and another visit to the bar, we were shown to our table. Again, hosted in the library, we were served a truly memorable Christmas Day lunch. Having made our course selections in the previous weeks, between us we tucked in to prawns, salmon, duck, turkey, venison and all the expected trimmings. My husband opted to finish with Christmas Pudding but I definitely made the better choice with the Kahlua chocolate mousse - it was outstanding! Another walk was required post lunch, though we could have chosen to use any of the onsite facilities - the gym, pool table, dart board, golf or even the hot tubs - you absolutely won't find time to get bored in between meals here. In the evening a huge cheeseboard was brought out, lest anyone should still have room. Of course I did still have room because it was Christmas and what better way to enjoy the atmosphere than with a glass of single malt and a mini pork pie - I felt positively opulent! Boxing Day was a fry up buffet and a Birds of Prey display. Both absolutely lovely. I particularly enjoyed the black pudding and the tiny owl (the owl was in the display, not on the plate!). Another walk and chat with the resident peacocks then it was time for Afternoon Tea. Oh my! More food? Go on then. I am a fan of an afternoon tea and this one didn't disappoint - yummy sandwiches, delicious scones (with seriously delicious cream) and a selection of very pleasing tiny cakes. And, of course, the famous Rosso Rat (like a rock cake but way nicer). That kept us going until the evening when we enjoyed a particularly impressive Yorkshire Pudding wrap (which I believe is a speciality of the The Lodge, another eatery on the Rossington Hall grounds). I went for the Beef Bourguignon and my husband chose the pork filling, both excellent. The final morning we were delivered a breakfast hamper to eat in our room or take home with us - smoked salmon, pate, more cheese, jams - a superb selection that certainly took a little of the sting out of having to leave our room for the last time. Check out was a breeze and we were still being served drinks right up until the moment our taxi arrived to tear us away from our luxurious home from home. Our recent break at Rossington Hall is, without exception, the most luxurious, relaxing and food-filled Christmas my husband and I have ever spent together. Not only is the Hall a magnificent building in which to secrete yourselves away from the world for a few days but the staff are fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble and anything we did require (fresh towels, extra hot chocolate sachets) arrived almost instantly and always with a smile. Polite and professional but also charming and chatty if required. The food is really very good and, based on previous visits, just keeps getting better - both in presentation and taste. The rooms are gorgeous and the beds are comfy, there's plenty to keep you entertained whether you stay for one night or a full week. It's a great base for exploring the surrounding area but if you want some romantic private time, you've got that too. I can absolutely see why the hotel hosts so many celebrity guests because it's hard not to feel a little bit special when staying here. Ultimately, I simply can't fault this stay. Not only was it great value for the level of service and food we received but it was perfect from start to finish. While I hope to visit again before then, we've already booked for Christmas 2023 which I think speaks volumes as to our levels of satisfaction. Well done all!…
Our party of 8 adults have just returned from our second consecutive 'Christmas in Residence' at Rossington Hall. What can I add from the review I wrote last year? It's just more of the same, but on steroids. As usual, all the staff were fantastic throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble (I even got told off after I took some empty glasses from the table I was sitting to the bar!!! - it was not my job to do this, my job was to relax and enjoy). The staff in this place really made the entire stay so special. The food and drink were, as usual, excellent and so plentiful. You would never find yourself hungry or thirsty. Wines were paired excellently with the courses we had and the numerous glasses of champagne added those little extra touches. New dishes have been added to the taster menu and the very sherry trifle served on Christmas Day came on a serving dish so large, I thought it was a desert for the table (when it was an individual portion). Still hungry/thirsty after all that was provided - not a problem, just aske and more food and drink would be provided. I honestly did not expect our stay to live up to last years experience (more form a 'I have done this before' perspective, rather than from a quality perspective - but was I proved wrong. The Christmas in Residence package is almost unique and, unless you want to be paying into the multiple thousands of pounds per person, would be very difficult to beat (if you could find somewhere else that did this sort of thing). As always, I am eagerly anticipating my next stay at Rossington Hall.…
Having stayed a few times over the last few years whilst visiting family, I have to say, it is the most wonderful hotel with the most attentive, flexible and accommodating staff. We will certainly be back.
Booked to stay for one night as a birthday treat. Rossington Hall is amazing, the furniture and decore is very grand, was extra special with the christmas trees and decorations. Stayed in a king deluxe room which was beautiful. Food was excellent and Tom did a great job of looking after us all evening.
We have been visiting Rossington hall for quite some years now and it has always exceeded our expectations. The Rossington Hall staff can’t do enough for you. Especially Debbie. Nothing is too much to ask, or too much bother. She is an absolute credit to Rossington Hall. Yesterday we finally had our wedding day. Tim the manager went above and beyond for not only our guests but also for our photographer and wedding team. We have never met someone so easily approachable and so kind hearted. Rossington Hall is an absolutely incredible venue not only for weddings but also for a weekend away. We can’t thank you all enough and can’t wait to come back again soon. Xx
I find it difficult to understand some of the negative comments made by some previous reviews so I can only state what my experiences were from my stay. We booked in for one night it was both my and my husbands birthday treat. The hotel to be honest was difficult to find in the dark but was well worth the effort. There are not enough adjectives to adequately describe our experience. On arrival the front of house greeting was exceptional, our room was above any expectations we had. The hotel has obviously been restored with the furniture and contents being sensitively replaced to blend in with the age of the building. The owners must have spent an inordinate amount of money to achieve this rebuild and must be on a mission to fully refurb the building to its former glory. Our best wishes in doing so. We had a conducted tour of the building both pre dinner and prior to leaving the next morning by two different staff members both were excellent and displayed knowledge and imparted a love for the building and the owners ambition to fully renovate the building, both should get a pay rise. I can honestly state that it was the most memorable hotel stay in the UK. It’s layout, food quality, service, cleanliness are well above average, I would recommend the hotel to anyone. It is little on the expensive side but you always have to pay for quality. The building and grounds are beautiful and yes even the peacocks are friendly. Would recommend to anyone.…
Returned to the scene of our wedding for our first anniversary to find that nothing has changed, every inch of the place is still magical, cozy and welcoming, and that includes the staff too. We’ll return here every year because that’s what the place and the people have come to mean to us, a special occasion in a special place.
Don't get me wrong the building is absolutely beautiful and the grounds. But the staff where VILE. Rude and not helpful atall. Attended a wedding that cost alot of money. Service was shocking. Ceremony was at 13.00 didnt get the starters till 17.00 and that was slow service that finished at 19.45 Then the evening buffet came out at 22.00. The groom was locked out during pictures being taken and told to walk around the long way to get back in. A guest and her baby was not allowed to sit in a quiet room to breast feed And when confronted the managers did not care. Absolutely disgusting with the amount of money the place charges. Employ more staff and get it right as one person serving on the bar is shocking with 4 staff members serving food. Needs new management and FAST
Attending a wedding here at the end of August, had the most amazing day. Rossington Hall is set in the most beautiful surroundings. The Hall gives a feeling of being on a country estate full of character and quality. We had the most amazing wedding breakfast, the staff go above and beyond to make this special day one to remember. I would highly recommend Rossington Hall for a wedding venue.
I attended my son Johnathans wedding Here on the north 25 august and what a lovely day it was. Our room was absolutely gorgeous so luxurious it was the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in we felt very spoilt ! The food was excellent. Tim and Andrea made the day run as smoothly as they possibly could (thank you both so much 🌸) and worked very hard as did the rest of the staff. Johnathan and Amy worked tirelessly to make the day special for everyone and in my opinion they achieved this. Thank you Rossington and thank you Johnathan and Amy ❤️
