I like the Sands Regency for what it is.. a fairly safe, fairly clean place to stay in Reno. Its past its prime and the staff are friendly enough if you approach them the right way, but its clear they don't really like their management...More

It is very unusual the Hotel charged you 30% in advance. I suggest you call the hotel directly asking why. In my case, I did not book directly with the Hotel, I booked through my bank's website travel service. I paid full amount in advance when I book the room, if I needed to cancel, I can get full refund if I cancel 72 hours prior to arrival date. The day I checked in, Sands asked me for a credit card, told me they would need to hold $75, but the $75 never actually charged through my credit card. I have a habit whenever I book a hotel room, I ask their cancellation policy.
