Hike a moderate 2.7 miles to reach this popular hut, and our Greenleaf croo will greet you with hot meals, information about the surrounding trails and wilderness, and plenty of great energy. Stick around and do day hikes from Greenleaf to nearby peaks, or head to neighboring huts to experience more of AMC’s hut network.
Each year I start at Lafayette Place and with 32 ounces of water make my way across the ridge over Lafayette and down to the Oasis that is Greenleaf hut. Here I can refill my water and make it down Bridal Path.I always pay for a sweet treat. This time I forgot my money and EMILY (caretaker) gave me a coffee cake for free with a big smile on her face. Its small acts of kindness like this that make your day. 45 years ago my parents brought me here for an overnight and I still visit today. What an amazing place in the Whites.

My wife and I did a three day hike in Franconia Notch in October and spent one night at the AMC Greenleaf Hut and the second night at the AMC Lonesome Lake Hut. This is a great trip with the advantage of being a loop from Lafayette Place. The huts, as usual, were welcoming and comfortable. The downside is three level bunk rooms and no hot water/showers. As long as you know what to expect, this is a great way to experience the White Mountains.

Ending the loop up Falling Waters and across Franconia Ridge a stop at the Greenleaf hut is a must. Hearty soup and apple pie for four bucks. Wish I had planned to stay for dinner as the staff was preparing what looked to be a sumptuous meal. Also saw the heli flying in new mattresses so staying the night will be a bit fresher this fall.

Fall foliage was calling us when we made the trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire the second week of October, 2016. The day of our hike up the Bridle Path Trail to Mt Lafayette, the ranger at the trailhead warned us that conditions on the summit were going to deteriorate throughout the day, with fog and ice and freezing conditions arriving in the afternoon. We (myself, spouse, and two teenagers) decided we would at least try for Greenleaf Hut just below the summit. The trail was often rocky, and some scrambling over small boulders and clambering up broken wet slab was necessary (we wondered about the trip down!). Finally,we got near treeline and could gaze down upon the palette of colors running over the hillsides. But we could see that Mt Lafayette was completely shrouded in cloud cover. When Greenleaf Hut came into sight, it couldn't have come sooner. We were tired, hungry, cold; the hut was filled with warmth, food, and lots of fellow hikers. An hour passed as we recuperated before our descent. We'll be back to try tackling Mt Lafayette's summit another day, but we're grateful that Greenleaf Hut will be there to help us through.
