Weekend stay at the Franconia Inn!

Lovely stay, lovely weather in mid September 2022. Used the inn as a base camp to climb some nearby mountains. Arrived on a Friday afternoon and departed on Sunday morning.

Charming place and a throwback to simpler times long past. Given how old this property is, it is showing its age but in a wonderfully historic way.

Staff was very nice; food was great, especially the breakfast. We ate in their lower level pub for dinner and the main dining room for breakfast.

Our room was on the second floor at the end of the hall so it was relatively quiet. When doors would close down stairs, the whole floor would shake and sometimes it was loud enough to wake you up. Not much you can do about ignorant people allowing doors to slam. The bed was very comfortable although there did seem to be a bit of dip in the middle of our mattress.

The bathroom was huge while the shower stall was very tiny but great water pressure and temperature. There was a very large hot tub in the bathroom too.

Although we didn’t happen to use them, there was a nice pool and hot tub in the back of the yard.

There were mountain bike rentals and horseback riding right on the property and the horses looked very well cared for.

Directly across the street was a small grass airfield for gliders and super small prop planes. We saw one couple fly in for dinner one evening. Despite this, it is very, very quiet area and a wonderful setting with the mountains all around.

The only thing we felt the property was lacking were some out door fire pits. There is a large expanse of lawn that could accommodate one large one or a few smaller ones. While real wood would be best, even propane-fired pits would really have been nice to sit around, as the evening air was cool but not cold.

There was also a really nice screened in porch on the main floor that we sat and watched the sun setting behind a mountain range.

The next round of mountain climbing in that area, we would stay at the Franconia Inn again.

Stayed here for two nights, room was pleasant and clean. Staff was very friendly. Was hoping for a hot breakfast but they had a free continental breakfast instead. Fruit, muffins, bagels, yogurt and granola was generally served. Dinner was more of an issue, Wednesday only Peaks Pub was open doing burger wednesday, so tried the pub. Was also open mic night so very little seating, maybe nine small tables. Finally got a table and had the smashburger and a draft. Open night mic was real good with a big contrast in styles. Dinner the next night night wads only at Peaks Pub again, and it was full again, and was told only a limited menu was available. So after playing ping pong in the game room and still no table we went off site. Luckily there are many options in Littleton NH

Had such a great second stay at the Franconia Inn! For this second trip, our group doubled in size, so we stayed in the cottage onsite. The cottage accommodations were perfect for our group. There are two levels that are connected, but also have separate entrances. The rooms were incredibly spacious and immaculately clean. Each floor has a separate kitchen space, as well. In addition to the open indoor space, the cottage features a large patio outside and separate parking. Waking up to seeing the Inn’s horses freely grazing in their open field was such a refreshing way to start the day.

It is obvious that the owners are passionate about encouraging their guests to experience all that the area has to offer. They are fantastic resources for recommendations for people who are newer to exploring the outdoors, as well as to avid adventurers. With so many options for things to do, either onsite via their outdoor activity center or only a short drive away, there is truly something for everyone.

It was so exciting to see all of the new renovations that the owners have been working on since our last stay. It is evident that they are prioritizing maximizing guest experience with each new update.

Everything about the experience of staying at the Franconia Inn feels quaint and authentic. I strongly encourage future guests to use the Inn setting as an opportunity to reset, recharge and reconnect with nature. I can’t wait to return for a third stay!

We enjoyed our stay in this large old inn, set in a beautiful country setting down the road from the town of Franconia. It is beautifully maintained, with spacious rooms and nicely decorated sitting areas on the first floor, including a roaring fireplace. We enjoyed a delicious breakfasts in the first floor dining room and dinners in the downstairs pub. There was a vegan option on the standard menu in the pub, and after learning there were three vegans in our party, the pub chef went out of his way to create a wonderful vegan recipe the following night. There is also a game room with table & chairs, shelves of books and games. The inn was fully booked, so it was restricting dining to inn guests only. They were obviously very short staffed, however the staff that was there went above and beyond to take care of everyone as quickly as humanly possible. We had a great experience!

The inn's idyllic location provided breathtaking views, an abundance of activities (hiking trails, horseback rides, great food!) and amenities, and a staff with a genuine care and superb attention to detail. We felt so comfortable, cozy, and the experience here was nothing short of awesome. Cannot wait to return for another unforgettable getaway!

Really excited to write this review after years of lackluster experiences. I have grown up going to the Franconia Inn and have started going on my own now as an adult (this was my 20th year), so I was excited to hear of new ownership and some much-needed attention. Our stay was great, from the attentive front desk staff that accommodated our late check-in and meal reservations, to the always great breakfast service. The Inn had its energy back with a fully booked house and a busy pub and restaurant, fires burning in every fireplace. We loved the bartender, Clif, and thought the food in the main dining room was good (the kitchen still could use to handle busy hours better with more staff on busy weekends, this is my only criticism). I miss the projector screen in the movie room, but was glad to see the hot tub was clean and fully operational! Perhaps most importantly, the hot water never ran out like it used to (even on a fully booked weekend) and the furnaces in the room were easily manageable. The Inn was quiet by 10pm even with a number of families, and there were plenty of cozy places to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a good book.

My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the Franconia Inn. The inn is quaint and comfortable. It emphasizes people over technology and we loved it. A sitting room, a library, plus other locations with fireplaces to read or play board games. The restaurant was fabulous, the staff friendly and helpful. Snowshoeing, xcountry skiing right there plus Cannon Mt Ski Resort down the road. We'll be back for sure.

We really enjoyed our stay here because as a family we unplugged, played board games at night and swam and enjoyed th quiet and beautiful lobby. It is a beautiful inn in a lovely setting across from a glider airport that is fun to watch. There is horseback riding and biking nearby. Note that the basement pub and dinner restaurant were only opened W-Sun. We were ok with it because the menu and prices really don’t cater to families. The food was good though. It’s nice a drink is available too. We never had breakfast that was served daily there either because the menu was very limited and prices a bit much without a kids menu.
While we loved the inn, note that the bathrooms are not updated nor are the rooms. If you are someone that wants new and renovated this isn’t for you. We loved the character and charm and found the beds comfortable. The bathrooms really need an update. Also cleaning crew only came once over our 4 day visit. Overall a beautiful location and comfortable inn. Would definitely like to return one day!

Why we love it? A screened back porch running the width of the inn with plenty of seating and a cocktail table large enough to play a game. Our view from the porch: the green of grass and trees and horses eating hay, and if we look down a bit, the pool and hot tub. We play tennis, swim, walk to “the beach” (a clear running brook off a cross-country ski trail), play board games or work a puzzle in the library, have a drink and listen to live music (live music new to this visit!! ) at the downstairs pub area, eat delicious breakfasts and dinners in the main dining room, and relax in comfy chairs chairs and couches in the living room. It is the place where, years ago, our young kids loved playing ping pong and arcade games downstairs in the game room. Over the years, we have hiked so many of the 4000-foot White Mountains, done smaller hikes like Bridal Veil Falls and Bald Mountain, visited the Flume and the Basin... and we never fail to go to John Harmon’s store and pick up bricks of aged cheddar cheese. Looking forward to grandchildren doing the same! In the meantime, our 3-generation will be back !
