We arrived after a long drive and upon going to check in we were greeted not with a "How was your journey?", but with a stern telling off about driving at walking speed - and we hadn't even got into the site yet. As we drove in fellow campers made signs indicating that the correct walking speed was that of a geriatric old lady with a broken leg.
Signs were everywhere telling you what not to do including no less than 33 seperate signs in the small unheated outdoor swimming pool. Any interaction with the staff in the office was like trying to make friends with a state trooper who'd just pulled you over for dangerous driving.
Stangely on a very busy holiday weekend when there were several big events in the area, this campsite was pretty empty. I guess word has got around. We will not be going back.

Went there this year on the 4th of July weekend. Basics: 1. Tent sites - on the smaller side. not very large, but accomodating enough for a bench, a 3 person tent and a car.
2. Toilets - Clean.
3. Showers - Clean. 25c per 3 minute shower.
4. Noise level - Quiet time is 10 PM, so the place gets quite quiet.
HOWEVER, proximity to Rt. 1 may have caused excessive highway noise at some sites. We were lucky not to have one close to the highway.
5. Pool/Picnic Area/Basketball and softball courts - In good condition.
6. Friendly staff - I've heard some people getting mad at them for the continuous nagging about driving at walking speed (they are obsessive about it - signs posted everywhere), but I think if you want a clean, friendly, peaceful and safe atmosphere, you need to provide a clean, friendly, peaceful and safe atmosphere for the ones around you.
7. Misc - Gated entrance. $10 deposit, refundable on checkout. Air for car/bike/whatever - we had a flat and had forgotten our air pump.
8. Easy access to Hampton beach. I'd suggest biking to the beach (a tiny .1mile stretch on the on ramp to Rt 1A, but after that, you'd be biking past tons of traffic on busy weekends!) Closing statements - If I ever go to Hampton Beach (it was really really crowded), I would WANT to camp at Tidewater again. -J

I am a single dad with three sons. We were looking for a campground near Hampton Beach for the week. Tidewater appears to be a nice campground but after a few days it looses its luster.

What everyone has commented on about maintaining walking speed in you car is true. The owner watches through the window all day and yells at anyone who goes over 3 miles an hour. I am a school principal so I believe in rule following but this guy is ridiculous. I even got yelled at.

To me the worst part of the camground is the constant sewage smell and mosquitoes.
The campground is surrounded by marsh and bugs that I have never seen attack you. And i mean attack.

My son told me that he was saying to the lady in the store that it was his last day and he would miss the campground. The lady commented back "good..I won't miss you."

I won't be returning.

Pros:
The campground itself is clean, bathrooms are clean has a pool , small camp store . Close to beach

Cons: The woman running it runs it like an early 1900’s nun that hates children. If she could hit them trust me she would. Yells at kids for riding their bikes too fast, across a side walk , jumping in the pool when nobody is in the pool they’ll kick them out. she’s got cameras everywhere she watches so she can yell at them. you have to be with your child at all times even at the playground with middle schoolers. tent sites are in a swamp w standing swamp water behind the site. sites are Tiny. The big ones are 15x30 you can’t even set up a ten person tent , and 5 chairs around a firepit without pulling your car in at an angle. you cant even idle through the campground bc that is too fast. I’m not exaggerating . read the other reviews . The old lady is miserable

If you are retired, hate children , and have a camper this place is for you.

It was our 2nd time we have been there as we are happy. It close to the beach and accepts tents.
Now for all you little people complaining about some telling you to slow down … just slow down it a Damm camp ground.
I have been warned slow down late in night…. Sooo.. I slowed down.
The owners are super polite eveytime we see them. Even my kid cut his hand and she helped them and came by later to do a follow up.
The grounds are clean and bathroom are clean. I have seen worse in higher rated camp grounds.
What we like that it is a quiet place every time.
We will go back

We were really concerned because of some of the reviews. So glad we didn't avoid this place. Can't wait to come back! Site was awesome, check in was okay but they do make it clear that the rules are to be followed. Location is also very cool for exploring the coast. Some sites have amazing views. No seasonal sites that are in serious disrepair. We like it!

It was our first excursion to the Hampton Beach, NH area and I carefully researched the campgrounds that I wanted to stay at in this area. Well I picked the Tidewater Campground. What a BIG MISTAKE. Upon checking in the campground, the welcome was absolutely terrible!!!!!
and I mean terrible. Signs all over the place, don't do this and don't do that. Not a very friendly campground at all. We had campfires every nite which seemed to be taboo. We were watched closely every day. We were very good, no noise and all. I don't know what their problem was.
I would not recommend this campground to anyone. In all my years of camping, I have never felt so unwelcome. I wrote them a letter to let them know how I felt. Alot of good that did. I didn't expect to get a response.

I have never been treated so rudely anywhere! The owners spent most of their time yelling at their "guests" for driving too fast "Three miles an hour is not walking speed". My family arrived the night before me and I could see our campsite from the office when I went to check in, so I sent my teenage son and his girlfriend to wait for me at the camper while I checked in the second automobile. The owner came out of the office screaming that this was private property and who did they think they were walking around. I was stunned! I quietly stood next to her and said "why are you yelling at my children?" She snarled that this was private property and they couldn't just go anywhere they want.
I told her they were going to our campsite. She glared at me in disbelief and said "a campsite here?". I said yes, told her the campsite number and our name. She then huffed "is that car registered?" I said, no, that is why I am here in front of you now. Honestly, if we hadn't planned to attend the Seafood Festival, I would have turned around and headed home. I will never recommend this place, nor would I give them another cent of my money. When my 13 year-old son went into the store to purchase some candy, she said to him" When you want something you should say please, I shouldn't give you anything." Excuse me, I do teach my children to be polite, but shouldn't she say "may I please help you?" and "thank you for shopping here" none of which ever came out of her mouth. Warn everyone to stay away from this one!

A weekend away at the beach with my sister turned into hell at the campground!! When we arrived I was driving 5 mph, the woman in the office yelled at me for speeding!!! As she proceeded to check us in she was giving us nasty looks (I'm assuming because we are younger and thought we were going to be loud) and was rude to us as though we were a huge inconvenience to her, she has no sense of humor. We got our directions and went to the tent site, our site was small and there really is no privacy from your neighboring campers. We set up and walked back to the main entrance to wait for a taxi to bring us to the seafood fest. Upon returning at 2am we were back at our site getting ready for bed we were whispering and were not loud by any means of the word!!! A male "security" guard approached us and was shining a light in my face asking if we were staying here, I didn't know him, he never said he was security and was very rude and overbearing... As a young female you should take caution when being approached like that, he began raising his voice to me and shinning his flashlight in our tent where my sister was changing!!!! I told him to stop and he continued!!!!! He told me we were being to loud and that he was going to kick us out. He lingered around our site for about 30 minutes watching our every move with flashlight in hand. We broke no rules and were treated like prisoners, we were very uncomfortable spending the night and called a bunch of hotels but because of the busy weekend there were no rooms available. When I gave the ol' bitty her gate card back the next morning she chewed me a new one telling me we broke all her rules and she was going to charge us more money!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT?!?!?! I proceeded to tell her about the "security" guy that works nights and how we honestly felt VERY uncomfortable and she started yelling at me and then some other guy in the office that works there was in my face telling me he would of had us arrested that night because we were being loud. I told them both to take the gate card and shove it up their...... And that I would never stay at their campground again and that I would make sure to tell everyone I know not to either!!!

Only upside is that it is clean! It is close to the beach but it is still noisy from traffic. Sites were reasonable for price but would have rather spent 300$ to stay in at a bates motel instead!

NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!
