I absolutely don't understand the negative reviews. This independent motel had everything I could ask for and more. I stayed two nights, before and after a long day-hike on Mt. Washington. The room was neat and clean, with what felt like a brand-new bed. My room had a balcony that looked out over a quiet picnic area with deer grazing and the Ellis River behind that. (It appears that the front rooms might not be so quiet, so if you want quiet, I recommend asking for a room on the river side.). There's also a nice little playground area in the back yard. The motel is very conveniently located for hiking and outdoor activities -- just about 12 minutes from Pinkham Notch Basecamp and Tuckerman's Ravine, Wildcat Mountain. Red Fox Bar and Grill is across the street, so you don't have drive anywhere for dinner (after a long day hiking or skiing). The motel is run by a mother and daughter who are both very friendly without being in-your-face, the way some proprietors are who think you have nothing to do but talk with them.

Cozy and clean motel room with microwave, double full/queen beds, directTV, free WiFi, and heater + AC. Rooms were priced well and the owner was friendly and accommodating. Good location with a great restaurant across the street. View of the covered bridge and river out back. Stayed up here for a hike and it was a great warm room afterwards!

Located in a great location but that is literally all that can be said for this establishment. The owner is rude, and unwilling to admit fault or offer an apology because she feels customers that are looking for apologies are just trying to use her as a door mat. This motel is run down and the attitude is not worth your stay. Find somewhere else!

Did not enjoy my stay in this run down 'lodge'. The smell as you walked from the lobby to the hall was all must, but not in a sexy way. The room was a little less offensive smelling, but the carpet was stained. The bed post was broken, the towels are threadbare, the wall paper is peeling, and there were hairs all over the bathroom that did not belong to me. I had pre-paid upfront and was charged extra fees with no notification for having my dog with me. The website that I booked through made no mention of extra pet fees and I was not informed of this at check-in. I understand paying extra for pets, but I feel that it is inappropriate to charge fees without disclosing or discussing with your guests. As others have mentioned, Owner was quite rude. Definitely will not be returning.

If I could give less I would. Owner is very rude, place is filthy. Youd be better off sleeping in a pig pen. Less bugs too. Do yourself a favor and dont support this business. She has already been accused of a hate crime.
