I have been a guest here multiple times over the last couple of years. I am so disappointed with the service here that I will never come back here again. Front Desk service was extremely poor, mischarging credit card and not being able to correct it when I pointed this out to them. I was told to contact "accounting" to make these corrections. Furthermore, I was a prior "club" member with access to the club room, now told that I didn't have the necessary points to allow for this. Housekeeping did not clean room 2 out of 3 days. I will make every effort to find another hotel when I return to Portsmouth
What an awesome experience. Hotel is really great. We stayed in really nice totally modern, renovated room, with a view of the harbor. The hotel is located in a perfect location in Portsmouth with walking access to all the great restaurants and right between Hampton and Ogunquit beaches. The hotel really know how to make the customers feel appreciated. Book early.. They fill up quickly. What truly separates this hotel from all others it the outstanding staff. Shannon at the front desk was awesome. She is a very warm and helpful person. Shannon exudes professionalism, customer centricity and attention to detail. She made sure every thing was absolutely perfect with out stay... Thank you so much Shannon, we will be back.. Our definite go to hotel in Portsmouth.. Kudos to CJ for an awesome job with the hotel and staff!…
Nicely updated mainline full service hotel short walk to downtown Portsmouth. Lounge ok. Some rooms with view of the harbor. Food ok+. Club level quiet despite large function/group in hotel. Staff and service overall very good. No one appeared surly at all which is different for uptight New England and I should know, being a surly new Englander myself. Elevators slow but the stairs work just fine. Parking a little pricey but I guess that’s the area. Overall a solid experience shading towards fancy with nothing notable to complain about.
I love this hotel location, very nice and very friendly staff. They are very professional. The breakfast staff were amazing, polite, and very professional especially Sue, she provided very excellent customer service and went over beyond to provide me everything I need in the lunge area. Keep up guys the hard work!
Had a wonderful time at this hotel! The day Manager and all of the staff we had interacted with were superb. They put in a lot of energy to make sure guests were pleased with their stay! They went above and beyond a couple of times for us and we seen they did the same with others. There was also a wedding going on there at the same time but, they took care of everyone fabulously!
Our daughter attends the University of New Hampshire and have been to many hotels for our busy jobs. We have high expectations and even if a property is not a Ritz or Four Seasons, it can treat you as one and make you feel like you are family. That is how I feel about this hotel. The GM, CJ, Front Desk personnel from Alex to the new guy, Kyle, are amazing. Sue in the Club room is seriously so incredibly kind. Our Family Weekend celebration was just perfect and I am reminded of how kind people can be when we take the time to communicate, listen and ask for what we need. They are willing to do what is asked for, as long as we are respectful and kind in return. We still have a few more years at UNH and look forward to many great stays here. Thank you CJ and Alex for a great weekend!…
This hotel is under renovation, which isn't a bad thing, but don't put guests in areas where construction is taking place. The smell of construction chemicals is everywhere. Building supplies are stacked in the hallways. Even "renovated" rooms aren't. My room was 2 doors down from major construction. The smell was so overpowering, I didn't sleep well, so I got up and walked around this lovely city. Only returned to the room to get my luggage and check out. For example, my "renovated" room is missing any sort of a working area. No table, no chair. Forget about working on your computer unless you sit on the bed. The TV is on the wrong side of the room. It's facing a space where a bed should be (but isn't), and there's no viewing angle from the existing bed. Of course, they could have put it on a swivel mount. The internet download speed is a stupidly slow 17 meg. If I use my phone as a hotspot, it's 352 meg!. Ask the front desk to switch you to a room that has a desk or a table, and you're told none of them do. The harbor is very close, but you wouldn't know it from the filthy windows The bathroom is a whopping 7' wide. If you need the safe, better be tall, it's 6' off the ground. The upside? It's a lovely city and many of the staff are very nice. The toiletries are above average. There’s coffee in the lobby, which is the only part of this hotel you should be in. But this hotel should close their doors until they get their act together, which I'm sure they will claim "is almost done". It’s a horrible mess. There are nice hotels in Portsmouth, choose another one. You’ll thank me later.…
While everyone recommends a water view room, most rooms face either a parking lot or the railroad tracks. One important thing to know is that if you cannot get a water view and are facing the railroad track, you will hear the loud trains all night long. As others have noted, it is a property under construction so you will need to confirm that you are not staying near the construction. The renovated rooms are fine but a few things to note. There is absolutely no artwork on the walls. Everything is just beige and white. It's fine but it did seem unfinished. They also did not replace the doors, just repainted, and it is already peeling as was the bathroom ceiling b/c there is no bathroom fan. And the toilet seat was already broken too. The oddest thing was no washcloth. Plenty of other size towels but no washcloth. Asked three different housekeepers before one - and only one - was found. They said they were out. All of these things are not really to be expected when you are paying almost $400/night. Self pay parking is across the street and is $30 or valet for $35. I guess they make their money off that extra $5 most people will pay for valet? Make it easier to self park. It's not even a covered garage, just an empty lot by the railroad. Lastly, the service was poor. The front desk staff was not welcoming in anyway. Maybe like the guests, the staff aren't happy being there?! Has Sheraton not adopted Marriott standards? Friends stayed nearby at the Hilton and highly recommend that instead.…
Loved the location of this hotel., quick walk to water and restaurants. The staff was all very friendly and rooms were clean. We didn’t eat in the restaurant or at the bar, but it looked like a nice restaurant. Enjoyed the coffee right outside the elevator doors each morning.
The lack of customer service from Marriott is unbelievable. We were very much looking forward to our trip to celebrate my grandson's birthday. However, we had an unforeseen emergency develop and despite THREE attempts to contact Marriott customer service prior to our trip, we didn't receive a response until AFTER we had checked out. Not what I expected from Marriott. We booked the suite with two bedrooms and a living room. The view of the harbor was spectacular; however, the holes in the screens (and I mean large pieces of the screens were missing!) allowed us very limited access to the balcony. Flies came into the room and we were unable to get rid of them for the remainder of our stay. Also be aware, the suite is two stories, with the bedrooms upstairs. From the description on the website, I was unaware of this. The hallway to our room was very narrow and it is quite a process to wheel a luggage carrier to your room. The second night of our stay, the microwave stopped working. When I called the front desk to report the problem, I was told there was no maintenance person on duty but I could use the microwave near the front desk on the first floor. We were on the fourth floor. Considering what we paid for this room, this response was totally unsatisfactory. And one other note you should be aware of is if you write to the manager, which we did, he has a standard response. If you read other reviews of this property, you will see what I mean. He writes that he wants to regain your confidence. Unfortunately, after we wrote a detailed e-mail to him explaining our situation and concerns, we never received an answer. So in conclusion, you definitely do not get what you pay for - look elsewhere for a hotel that values your business and listens to you.…
