Don’t be fooled by the. “Ascend collection” ! This place is a real dump. Unsafe. Littered with broken boards and in awful shape. And not cheap. Front desk was disorganized and unhelpful when we arrived. Got confused with our reservation. All in all, a real bust.
A wonderful place to stop for an overnight to break up a long broad trip. The room was clean and very accessible. The free breakfast was lovely - plenty of options for all tastes. The only suggestion we have is to use less scented air freshener in the rooms.
We chose to book this hotel instead of the Quality Inn because it was part of the "Ascend Hotel Collection" and it had a 4.5 rating on Choice Hotels website. Therefore, we expected a nice hotel, but instead we were extremely disappointed. The place is rundown, the heating unit did not work properly, the bathroom faucet was reversed where hot water came out where the cold was supposed to come out, and vice versa. This is a hotel with no daily housekeeping, and we were not made aware of this upon check-in, nor was this indicated on their website, nor was there a note indicating this in the room. We had a kitchenette with a table with only 1 chair. Upon returning to the room in the evening, we found that both of our key cards were deactivated (and the cards were not near our cell phones), Also, the cable TV went out a few times. This hotel is NOTHING like the photos portray & should be removed from the "Ascend Hotel Collection" category !!!!…
The staff on check in and during the stay were very helpful, particularly on Saturday night when we had some difficulties with our door locks. A young guy on reception was especially welcoming and professional during the weekend. We arrived at Port Inn and Suites Portsmouth just before 17.00. Check in was pretty straight forward and we were given our two rooms beside each other at the right hand corner of the motel. The walls are pretty thin, if you talked loud enough in one room the other one will hear you. The rooms were on the smaller size but comfortable. The beds were comfy and it was pretty quiet and that’s what matters. The bathroom was also small but I quite liked the bath regardless. The air con units in the rooms were powerful. If you wanted it cold it was cold and if you wanted it hot it was roasting. Breakfast was on the basic side but it did the job. My sister especially enjoyed the waffle maker. The location of the Port Inn was actually pretty great. We drove in on the first night but realised on the following two that walking was very doable. You could get into town in 30 minutes on foot, which we did on Saturday and Sunday after enjoying a few alcoholic beverages in town. The Port Inn ticks the boxes and it’s a good shout if you’re in Portsmouth for a weekend.…
We booked for two night but checked out after one. Theta was a large clump of hair on the shower wall. There was a spilled bag of cheetoes under the bed. There were ants on the counter in our kitchenette and the waffle station in the lobby, the bathroom caulk was mildewed, and the hallways were in need of paint and cleaning.
We had an overnight stay at the motel this summer when we were visiting family. The motel had everything we needed, very clean and comfortable. Large spacious room. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet had a good selection to choose from.
Hair in the sheets of the bed and on the pillow cases which I had not been on, I only noticed when I was about to crawl into bed for the night. Advertised as a beautiful motel with a pool, however the pool was closed when I got there (which was not mentioned when booking the room). Had I known, I would have gone somewhere else that had a pool, as this was the main selling point for us. Mold in the ice machine. Dirty black handprints on the walls of my room. Fridge in my room was broken- freezer would not shut, and the door kept falling off. Bugs in the bathroom. Door to the room had several metal pieces nailed onto it, making me believe it has been broken into before. Man sitting outside of our room in his car smoking when we got there, when we left for dinner, and when we returned from dinner- which gave us an unsettling feeling as he was right in front of our window (and making us breathe in smoke). Despite all of this, we looked past it and decided to make the best of it by going downtown Portsmouth for dinner. The uber said to us, "I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy." When we got back to the room, we were going to go to bed, which is when we saw the hair in our beds, and that was our final straw. The front desk employee was rude beyond words and refused to give us another room or our money back. We had not been in the room enough to use it, as we dropped our stuff off and left (and didn't even utilize the pool because it was closed), yet they refused to give our money back and were VERY rude on top of it all. So, at 11pm, we had to drive an hour back to our house because we had no where else to sleep. Our little getaway turned into a disaster, and costs us several hundred dollars for nothing. Overall: rude service, false advertising (no functional pool, gross rooms, moldy utilities), used sheets that had not been changed, and rude employees. Save your money and a headache, and just go somewhere else. Sleeping in my car would be a better option than sleeping in this motel.…
Staff were helpful and the breakfast had a range of options including bagels, cereal and yoghurts. The hotel is about a half hour walk into downtown where there are lots of lovely restaurants and shops. There is a pool and small terrace area with seating. The room was clean but decor is pretty tired. Would recommend as a stop trip if you are in the area.
We were in Portsmouth for a reunion and quite some time in advance booked the Port Inn. For our purposes it worked out well. It is in a location very easy on and off of 95, but it is NOT in the historic downtown area and it would be a long walk. it is pretty much located on the Portsmouth Circle which is a travel rotary and a busy road. The room was clean and comfortable. There were two issues, first the tub did not drain well and it is never pleasant to be showering in ankle deep water. the second issue was the AC unit sounded like a truck revving up every time it turned on, very noisy. We did not utilized the pool, but it looked nice. Breakfast was lackluster so we chose to find a diner. Overall it was completely suitable for the price and our needs.
It's a motel, not a hotel. And a poorly maintained, overpriced one at that. Despite the hardworking and personable staff, this is a depressing place to stay. Ripped and stained carpet on the stairway and an overall tired feeling don't do much to help the aging-motel vibe. Two of the three stairways between the first and second levels were blocked off. (Is that even legal? It looks like a fire hazard.) When I asked about the outdoor pool, I was told guests "weren't supposed to use it" because of a problem with the filter, but that people were using it anyway (which they were). The rooms themselves were not bad (bedding, at least in our room, was of high quality), and the self-service breakfast was decent. But staying here is not a pleasant experience. I was happy to leave.
