This was the dirtiest, smelled most out dated room I have ever rented, this hotel should not be able to rent rooms out until the state checks it out. I hope someone reads this and doesn’t rent this room they will be so happy to know I saved them $227
Rarely do I write about a hotel experience but this is worth it. Arriving around 7 at night in Portsmouth on a Wednesday night without a reservation turns out not to be a good idea. After three failed tries, I called the Homewood Suites and got their general reservation “service” person. The call was a disaster but it seemed they had rooms. So we drove over and were told they were sold out. However, the clerk said to wait a minute and she would search the system. It took a while but a room was found. And although it was expensive, we were so grateful to Mary Lou for caring, for taking the time to find a room and for kindness and humor. It is so wonderful to find someone who goes beyond her job to help strangers. Thank you.
My husband and I were going to stay at one of the hotels you advertised it looked great on the web site the reviews were ok so I rented it for $227 the day was great we checked in on time etc got to our room 119 and that’s when it changed the room was horrible the wood work was held on by duct tape, the smell was so overwhelming it takes your breathe away, the what looked like white sheets were gray to were you can see the outline that someone with like dirt greasy hair was laying on it for a long time, the bathroom was so out dated which ok we can live with that but it looked like someone took a dirty rag and wiped feces all over the walls, the furniture looked like something from the 40’s but very dirty and worn we were in the room maybe 3 minutes before we checked out and left the hotel, we did try to talk to the hotel about this with no accommodation to help with our overwhelming disappointment we traveled here to Christmas shop …
Rooms were dirty, smudges on the dishwasher and microwave, the dishes were all in the dishwasher and the bathtub mat was stained. We booked a double queen 5 months in advance. Upon arrival they told us all they had was a king. When we complained the manager pretty much said too bad. They said they were completely booked and there were no other rooms available. We noticed they were doing some renovations and saw some workers around but at breakfast we only saw one other family. We were not treated well and they didn’t seem honest about the room. The staff member who checked us in was rude about the situation. The only good part of the stay was Cindy who prepared breakfast. She was so kind and the food was very good.
I booked our room when we planed our trip at the end of January 2022, we booked directly through the Hilton website. The room rate we reserved on our reservation was $228/night. At check in (we arrived at 4:30 for a 4 PM check in) we were told that our room was not ready and would not be ready for at least a full hours. After 9 hours of driving, this was not what we wanted to hear. Finally, around 5:30 we were able to check in and I was told that they were going to charge my card on file an amount over $400. I immediately said "wait, for what? That isn't right," and I pulled up my reservation to show them the reserved room rate. I was told that most of it was for a deposit and would drop off later. This. Was. A. Lie. I made a note to request an itemized invoice at checkout, and assumed I would be able to address it then. The next morning, the invoice showed that the room rate that I was charged was $366/night. With taxes, this resulted in an overcharge of $149.73. I said this was incorrect and was told that nothing could be processed until the manager came back on site at 3PM. This was the same manager who fraudulently charged my card and when confronted lied and said the excess was a deposit. This has been over a week. I've tried contacting Hilton, and the manager claimed they processed a refund. The refunded amount was $84.63, still short of the full amount of the over charge of $149.73. I do not know how a reserved rate could just be thrown out the window like that, and the hotel can charge whatever they please, and choose to issue partial refunds. Booker beware, this place will lie to you and try to steal your money. You can find much nicer accommodations elsewhere without the risk to your wallet.…
Pros Great pillows and bedding Flavored water in lobby Complimentary cookie Quiet location Great view of sunset Full kitchen Coffee available before 7 am It was clear what time breakfast was served I liked the location. I read office park and panicked but it was tranquil and pretty. Cons Smoke smell strong in room Breakfast could be better Guys grilling and talking loudly under my window at 6 am on a Sunday like what!?!! Common sense is lacking with many. Not the fault of the hotel
We made two visits to the Homewood Suites in Portsmouth over the course of a 2 week vacation. We have stayed at this hotel many times because it is a great location to start and finish our vacations in New England. This is our first visit post-pandemic and what a disappointment. On our first stay, we found a dirty towel in our bathroom and the bedding for the sleep sofa was dirty and missing pieces. I initially blamed that on the hotel staff just having a bad day. It happens. However, on our second visit, less than two weeks later, we found our room musty and smelling of stale cigarette smoke. I am not sure if this is because someone actually smoked in our room or because we were on the first floor and everyone was smoking outside. When I asked for a room change, we were informed the hotel was full and no change was possible. There was no apology or offer of compensation. The beds in both rooms we stayed in are tired at best. The springs on the sofa bed mattresses were poking through making it uncomfortable for my son to sleep. The regular beds are also uncomfortable and need to be replaced. The final blow was the breakfast. There was no yogurt or fresh fruit, no waffle maker, nothing you would typically expect from a Homewood Suites breakfast. With the exception of one front desk person, the staff were clearly just going through the motions. When I checked out, there was not the typical inquiry about our stay. When I told her we were checking out, she literally just said "okay". This has consistently been one of our favorite hotels to stay in but after these experiences, I will not stay here again.…
We stayed as we were attending a wedding nearby. Hotel is in an office park and not far from downtown. There are lots of places to walk/run which was nice. Breakfast was included and is a normal hotel breakfast. Digital check in was nice and worked well. Overall the room was clean with normal wear and tear. We had our kids with us so used the pullout bed which worked for them, but I wouldn't recommend for adults- though maybe it would have been more comfortable than the actual beds ... which were not at all comfortable. The beds sank and you could feel the springs. All ok for 1-2 nights, but not any longer. Also, the bathroom is located in the room and our toilet was particularly loud. It took for ever to flush and then made a continuing drips/ gurgling sound all night. Also of note - there is not an EV charger on site. We did charge in a garage in downtown portsmouth, where we wandered for a bite. A very cute town!…
I was looking for a one night getaway that wasn't too expensive. This hotel fit the bill. The room was clean and comfortable. It's a small suite that has a sleeper sofa in the living room. The problem is you might not want to come with kids, because the bathroom is in the bedroom. There is a small kitchen. They gave us 2 waters upon check in which was nice. Breakfast is included and it was just okay. We didn't use the pool or the gym. They charge $5 for parking. The hotel is in the midst of an office park. I guess they used to have a lot of business travelers pre COVID
The facility itself was clean, the rooms large and the bed comfortable. It was a very negative exereince checking in- the front desk clerk did not greet me, coudln't find the reservation through Expedia and couldn't have cared less. After I spent 20 mintues on the phone with Expedia I verified the reservation was correct and they called the clerk directly. Evidently a manger-type was there and said they would honor the price. Noapologies were given. Other staff interactions were quite pleasant and professional.
