We went over to Steele Hill for a winter weekend family getaway, interested in the pool and other activities. This is a one star review for really one main reason - what felt like very high prices for lousy rooms. Those who are considering staying there should know one main thing - there are two separate resort building areas - one at the top of the hill, and one at the bottom of the hill. Most of the activities are at the top - the big pool, etc. The restaurant is at the bottom. This means walking back and forth up a steep hill or driving up, which seems silly. Not a big deal, but there is also a major difference in accommodations. The lower buildings are old, grubby, and often dark. They have done their best, but they have not been kept up. They were fairly clean with some gross exceptions (long hairs clinging to goop on the wall), but even then pretty depressing. The walls are also extremely thin. We could hear our neighbor snoring, and people walking around very clearly. People were not being unduly loud and it was very noisy. Had they been far cheaper it would have been okay, but the prices were ridiculous. We made friends and saw their room at the upper building, and it was nicer, but the cost was even more astronomical. Simply not worth it. The good was the indoor pool area was nice and well-kept; there is little supervision and some meatheads roaming around but our family had a lot of fun. Food is (as typical) overpriced and not great. Other activities were okay, but also not in great shape - video games out of order, etc. The sledding was solid. In general I would not recommend, not unless you are getting a really good deal.…
We traded our timeshare week through Interval. This has been one of the better resorts we have traded for. We were given a 2 bedroom in Steele Hill West. Master bedroom/bath upstairs and downstairs included a fully stocked kitchen, dining area, living room, fireplace and bedroom with 2 full size beds. The sofa in the living area also folded out into a bed. We enjoyed 2 out of the 4 pools while there. My kids loved the indoor pool with the waterslide. We did not participate in laser tag or golf, but both are available. We also hiked on the properties trails....that is one thing that needs improved upon....better trail maps. There are several other amenities available as well. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone!
The glass covered pool with the water slide is perfect for families who want a brief "break" from winter without having to get on an airplane. The views are also incredible, which the resort does a good job of incorporating that into the various parts of its property. However, during our stay, we did encounter these two issues: 1. Quiet Hours Enforcement: Our upstairs neighbors were extremely loud, so I called the 24 hour desk at around 10:15pm. They said they would send security, however, I waited for 20 minutes and never saw them show. The neighbors continued to make noise for another few hours. Unfortunately, that resulted in a miserable night's sleep for my wife and two toddler aged children. 2. Pool Towels: There were no clean towels available on the morning of January 2nd for the pool/water slide area. The front desk said they would bring them once some got washed. No ETA was given, we spent an hour swimming, and unfortunately, none ended up being delivered. Made for a cold trip back to our building! Overall, we enjoyed our stay. However, for $400+/night, we would expect greater attention to detail in terms of enforcing the quiet hour rules and maintaining a reasonable amount of pool towels for guests.…
We have been coming to Steele Hill for many years (16). The room was clean with the exception of the oven. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. The bottom was covered with baking splatter. I spent the week hand washing the dishes as there was a limited number of plates and bowls available for the 2 of us to use. We didn't dine at the Hilltop Restaurant as the prices were very expensive for a casual resort. On our last night we were watching tv when we heard voices coming from the lower level of our unit, we discovered a "Maintenace" tech had let himself into our unit without knocking or ringing the bell. Even when he was in he never called up to us at all. Once we confronted him, He asked us if we were using the fireplace, we were, and he said he was checking because he smelt smoke in the basement. We found this very un-nerving and question the security of the location. The staff working the pool area were excellent.…
My husband and I spent a week at Steele Hill to do some leaf peeping this Fall. The leaves were great; the resort, not so good! I think we had the worst room--or are they all this bad? We were in the "West building" on the 2nd floor next to the gaming and pool areas. (Think late night ping pong and noisy video games). We had no balcony or fireplace which were shown on website, and the room hadn't been updated from the 80's look. This resort has NO elevator and no one to assist with luggage. They are not ADA compliant. The stairs to 2nd floor are actually like to a 3rd floor due to high ceiling in lobby. I had injured my SI joint prior to trip and couldn't carry luggage. I had to leave it in car and bring up things in my arms little by little during the week. Same for groceries--many trips, no other way. One girl at the desk was kind, but there was no one around to explore changing rooms or get some help. There isn't much to do at the resort. I'm not into paintball or golf (and most of the course was closed for construction), and most venues (such as Cannon Mt., Kancamagus Hwy, or Lake Winnepasakie, Wolfeboro, etc) are about an hour or an hour and a half drive away. So, the resort is not very well located to make up for shortcomings.…
Stayed for a weekend away with the kids. The room was spotless and had everything we needed. We didn’t have hot water but it was fixed immediately by maintenance, staff. I also forgot to get coffee filters for the coffee pot and they brought us up a bunch! Pool was crystal clear, perfect temp. Food at the hilltop was good, a little on the expensive side but our room had a full kitchen so going to the restaurant was a treat. Will 100% be back again!
We stayed here as a recommendation from Ford because we were attending the Off-Roadeo nearby. I’m sure this place is great in the summer or would have been great if our kids were there, but as two adults visiting in the fall, this resort was horrible. We stayed in a tiny room, in a disgusting hallway, littered with garbage and bag of garbage. We asked for an upgrade, but we’re told there were no other rooms available. The view was of a parking lot. The pool was okay, but we walked in darkness through hallways to get to it. I mean there were literally no lights on. The bar was empty and no one was serving. The restaurant was okay. I think families would find this place entertaining, and perhaps other parts of this hotels are nicer. I think our room and section was just sad, old and dirty.…
We stayed in Steele Hill West. Every room at the resort has a balcony with spectacular views. Restaurant on-site is opened year round. They have Starbucks coffee available by the cup in the on-site Market. Great little gym. Weddings happening during our stay, but we could barely hear the festivities.
The 2 bedroom unit that we stayed in, was very large with three bathrooms and a soaker tub. The unit was well-equipped. The unit had excellent heat / air whichever you required. Lots of free parking very near to your unit. The entrances were very secure, we had to use our card to get in both doors. The staff was very cordial at all times, although we didn't have to ask for many items as they were all ready mostly available in the unit. For those that would like to golf ,they have a nine hole course that is being updated with new irrigation on a couple of holes.
outdated furnishings, extremely small room with view of the parking lot unable to upgrade although there were larger units available. nice pool and exercise room but about a quarter mile away from units and up a steep hill
