This is a very rustic lodge at the end of a dirt road and the base of hiking trails. Think bunk beds, thin walls, no heat, no cell service, bring your own towels and bedding. Folks bring their dogs into the lodge! Think communal eating of hearty food (we were served mac and cheese for dinner and pancakes for breakfast). Think meeting strangers as you hang out around the fireplace. Think cheap, outdoorsy, relaxed family oriented lodging.

Congregating at Moosilauke is a time-honored Dartmouth tradition for inbound freshman and the Lodge continues to draw alumni and unaffiliated hikers alike. The accommodations are very rustic: shared bunk rooms, some semi-private rooms, bathrooms and showers in the main Lodge. There are outlets for basic charging needs, but there is no cell service and no wi-fi (perfect way to disconnect!) There's a great field to throw the frisbee, play some soccer, kickball, etc. The main draw, apart from the hiking trails surrounding Mt Moosilauke, is the home-cooked meals served up for breakfast and dinner: absolutely delicious, particularly after a day of hiking.

If you like Hampton Inn & Suites, this is NOT IT. This is a rustic and historic old log cabin style lodge with a big rock fireplace, clean but very basic accommodations. The staff of Dartmouth students do a nice job taking care of guests, feeding very well (family style) and sometimes coming up with kooky-crazy activities for guests. Bring your book, get away from TV, relax and use the lodge for hiking base or place to come back to after being in the forest for a while. I found many smart folks there, great conversation, warm feelings. On top of good eats, there is a place to grab hot chocolate and other drinks during the day. The location in the White Mountains is beautiful, quiet and peaceful.

This is a great lodge well up a dirt road that has fabulous hiking trail access through the woods, up creeks and to the tops of the local mountains. In the Spring it is wet, but the growth and the flowers are wonderful.

We only used the Lodge as the base for our day hike. You can park along the access road and then stop into the Lodge to change, hit the restroom, wait for the rest of your party to arrive, etc. There may be drinks and snacks available for a donation. Water is free.

After your hike there are showers you can use (BYO towel and soap). No charge, though I'm sure a donation would be most appreciated.

The Lodge has an impressive library downstairs.

I've stayed at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge many times. It's not your usual hotel, but it's a very nice place regardless. Dinner and Breakfast are served family style - you get to take your pick of spots at tables of six. The food has been really good every time I've been there. There's usually some hanging out that happens after dinner - a mix of undergrads, grad students, locals, and passers-through. Oftentimes there's some kind of music being played, which is nice.

The bunkrooms can be a bit cold in the evenings, so it's best to bring a warm sleeping bag or heavy blankets. And you won't be sleeping on anything close to a waterbed, but it's usually comfortable enough.

The best part is when you wake up, you're right there next to Mt Moosilauke. It's great - you couldn't get any closer. It's the perfect place to start or end a hike. I'm definitely headed back as soon as I can.

Great place to stay! Rustic but comfortable. Great, family style food!!! My only complaint is they ran out of sheets they said they would have available to rent, but the accomodated us with sleeping bags in its place. Will definitely go back!

I heard they are tearing down The Lodge to replace it with a new one, and as a Dartmouth alum I never thought I'd say this, but GOOD. It's gross now. Absolutely filthy. We had hundreds of dead bugs in our room, covering the floor and bed. I've never seen anything so gross and they've never seen a vacuum. My children were terrified and the stupid kid working there looked at my six year old and said, "You should see how big the spiders are." At bedtime. I'm not kidding. Should've pitched our tent and slept outside!!! 2 of 3 men's toilets not working for the 24 hour period we visited. Front lawn smells like the venting septic system below. Disgusting!

Let me start by emphasizing this is not your typical hotel/lodge. If you are looking for all the comforts in the world then don't come here. That being said, if you are looking for a place to come and relax either before or after a good days worth of hiking then this is the place for you. It sits in a ravine at the base of Mt. Moosilauke. The view of the mountains from the windows or the porch is fantastic. The lodge offers a comfortable ( as opposed to sleeping on the ground or in a tent) bunk bed. There are showers ( always nice after a days hike). You can also purchase dinner and/or breakfast - excellent food. The place was full for dinner the night i was there - a lot of Dartmouth students came in to celebrate a birthday. Some nights there is entertainment and there is a great room downstairs for reading/doing puzzles/playing games or just socializing (hikers love to socialize). The staff are all Dartmouth Students and they do a fantastic job.
