The Port Royal is a beautiful hotel with a nautical touch. The pool and pool area is immaculate and has gorgeous views. The beach is just a short walk from the hotel. The Royal Grille restaurant has high quality food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We’ve been guests at this hotel for years and we meet other family members here as well as old friends we’ve met over the years at the Port Royal. It’s a bit pricey but you get what you pay for because it’s top notch! With that being said, I couldn’t give 5 stars because the efficiency we stay in every year really needs new mattresses on both beds. You can tell they are pretty warn and you can feel the springs so I was uncomfortable sleeping this time around. Hopefully management will read this review and consider my request so my next stay is more comfortable. See you in 2025!

Stayed here in late June and it was great. The staff is friendly, and the place was kept clean. Water around here can still be a bit cool in June, but they have a nice heated outdoor pool that was great for swimming, and a nice pool deck with plentiful tables, chairs, and some umbrellas. There is a restaurant at the base of the hotel, that looked decent, but we did not try it. We did an oceanfront room, had a great view and it was nice to sit on the balcony and watch the ocean. The accommodations were a little cramped for 5, but it worked. The place included a kitchenette with a basket-style coffee maker, microwave, 3/4 size refrigerator, and stove top. The wifi was decent, was able to check email and watch a few youtube on it without issue. My only critique, and its pretty minor, is that the televisions were way undersized for the room. I think maybe 37 inch TVs and are very small when viewed from the bed or couch, based on the layout of the room... maybe one day they will upgrade to a larger size (50 inch would be good). But thats just a minor thing, and I would consider staying here again on a future visit.

We've stayed here several times and its always an enjoyable vacation.
This hotel is oceanfront with a really nice pool and every area of this resort is spotless. There is a nice restaurant onsite serving breakfast, lunch and dinner but arrive early as it fills up quickly for breakfast and dinner. We return here, year after year without ever a problem. Its worth the cost.

They’ve supposedly done renovations on the rooms but ours must have been skipped. There was still some trash and the bathroom was incredibly old with some of the tiles cracked. The AC was very loud and didn’t do a great job cooling off the room (how is there no fan option for the AC???). Breakfast was average but the restaurant was closed for dinner two nights out of the four we were there so I can’t speak to that.

The pool and cabana section is very nice though and it is in a great location

Pros: Perfect location next to beach and public park, stunning pool area, quiet and comfortable guest rooms, attention to detail.
Cons: Hard to find something more expensive on the island, luxury in Wildwood = basic/moderate elsewhere, pool area lacks a hot tub.

With possibly a few strange exceptions, the Port Royal is the priciest place to stay in the Wildwoods (it's definitely a "hotel" compared to the island's many "motels"). Fortunately it is an example of getting what you pay for and there are no mysteries to be expected- the rooms are clean and maintained well, the grounds are impeccable, and the staff treats guests as is to be expected of a luxury resort.

To say this is a truly luxurious property would be stretching the truth- the rooms are on par with those in Marriott Courtyards and Hampton Inns, meaning they're nice but nothing incredibly special (although the seashore decor is charming). Yet if you're someone who's had a bad experience at one of the island's lesser lodging options, you'll agree that consistency can indeed be classified as a luxury. And when it comes to this hotel, you'll definitely feel as if you've stepped up from most others. There are two elevators so there's little waiting to get to the top floors; meanwhile on the bottom floors are a friendly and accommodating front desk staff, terrific beachfront restaurant (Royal Grill Cafe), and a pool area with endless rows of lounge chairs and seating under cabanas (although no hot tub).

The location couldn't be more perfect- far enough from the chaos of Wildwood while still being a short walk to the boardwalk. The beach is mere steps in one direction and a public park with playground and concert stage is a few steps in the other. With both surface and underground lots, parking is never a problem, even in the later hours when most Wildwood motels run short of spaces.

If you want to stay without paying a lot, the Port Royal offers decent rates before and after the busy summer months but even if you end up paying top dollar, no doubt you'll be pleased with the experience. There's a lot to be said about the luxury of perfecting the important details.

Have been coming to the Port Royal for 7 years now, and each visit tops the previous visit.
The staff are friendly and helpful and always saying “Hello”.
The rooms are clean well maintained and offer spectacular views of the ocean and bay.
The restaurant attached to the hotel offers great meals and and the best waiter service you could ask for.

While the Port Royal Hotel is generally a nice but expensive property, I had a significant issue in my stay that the team refused to resolve. I was placed in a room next to an elevator. Unfortunately this interrupted my sleep and after the second night I requested a room change. Without considering options, I was informed by the rude front desk person that this was not possible and that nothing could be done. I offered to then leave and reduce my stay however I was informed that I would still be responsible for the room charges of the full stay. When I asked to speak with the manager I was told he was not available and that I could come back later. Is this really the way Port Royal would like to treat a guest who is paying more that $300 per night for a stay? Really disappointing.

My husband and I stayed here with our son from June 2nd through June 5th. I stayed here many many years ago as a young child and have fond memories but hadn’t been back since moving out of NJ. We stayed in an oceanfront suite and couldn’t believe how spacious it was and were wowed by the beautiful view from our balcony. The room setup was great for our family. There was a pocket door dividing the room so our son was able to have his own space w a pullout bed and tv and we had our own separate bedroom with tv. We rented bikes nearby and rode them to and from the boardwalk on two mornings. We also loved being able to walk to the boardwalk. We met up with friends who also stayed here and the kids loved playing in the game room together each night and going back and forth between the beach and pool. We also had lunch at the restaurant twice which was very good. Can’t say enough great things about our stay and planning to make this an annual trip even though we live in Boston.

Beautiful hotel with ocean views and views of the pool. Staff is very friendly especially the front desk staff. Centennial Park is across the street and offers concerts on both Wednesday and Friday. They also had a food truck festival on Wednesday but unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate.

Does every room in the hotel have an efficiency ?
Answer from jerrys01
Bel Air, Maryland649 contributions193 helpful votes
No, in fact, most of the rooms do NOT include the things you would expect from an efficiency. The Port Royal is one of the nicest hotels in Wildwood Crest, so if you really want/need an efficiency, please expect to pay a little more.

How far is the ocean from the hotel? I am disabled and can’t walk very far in the sand. How far is the boardwalk?
Answer from jerrys01
Bel Air, Maryland649 contributions193 helpful votes
The cement walkway is right next to the Eastern end of the hotel (for Wildwood Crest). The actual wood boadwalk starts at the Wildwood/Wildwood Crest border, and is a 10-15 minute walk for a non-disabled person.

I would think until the end of season. That especially since it's really heated and a great pool.

If you walk back off of the beacha couple of blocks there is amexican restuarant and a couple of other options. I used google maps to make my my decision about what restaurant to walk to. I also ate at the hotel restaurant once.
