This hotel is oceanfront with a really nice pool and every area of this resort is spotless. There is a nice restaurant onsite serving breakfast, lunch and dinner but arrive early as it fills up quickly for breakfast and dinner. We return here, year after year without ever a problem. Its worth the cost.
The pool and cabana section is very nice though and it is in a great location
Cons: Hard to find something more expensive on the island, luxury in Wildwood = basic/moderate elsewhere, pool area lacks a hot tub.
With possibly a few strange exceptions, the Port Royal is the priciest place to stay in the Wildwoods (it's definitely a "hotel" compared to the island's many "motels"). Fortunately it is an example of getting what you pay for and there are no mysteries to be expected- the rooms are clean and maintained well, the grounds are impeccable, and the staff treats guests as is to be expected of a luxury resort.
To say this is a truly luxurious property would be stretching the truth- the rooms are on par with those in Marriott Courtyards and Hampton Inns, meaning they're nice but nothing incredibly special (although the seashore decor is charming). Yet if you're someone who's had a bad experience at one of the island's lesser lodging options, you'll agree that consistency can indeed be classified as a luxury. And when it comes to this hotel, you'll definitely feel as if you've stepped up from most others. There are two elevators so there's little waiting to get to the top floors; meanwhile on the bottom floors are a friendly and accommodating front desk staff, terrific beachfront restaurant (Royal Grill Cafe), and a pool area with endless rows of lounge chairs and seating under cabanas (although no hot tub).
The location couldn't be more perfect- far enough from the chaos of Wildwood while still being a short walk to the boardwalk. The beach is mere steps in one direction and a public park with playground and concert stage is a few steps in the other. With both surface and underground lots, parking is never a problem, even in the later hours when most Wildwood motels run short of spaces.
If you want to stay without paying a lot, the Port Royal offers decent rates before and after the busy summer months but even if you end up paying top dollar, no doubt you'll be pleased with the experience. There's a lot to be said about the luxury of perfecting the important details.
The staff are friendly and helpful and always saying “Hello”.
The rooms are clean well maintained and offer spectacular views of the ocean and bay.
The restaurant attached to the hotel offers great meals and and the best waiter service you could ask for.
