A beautiful paradise at 25 minutes from the city center of Cape Town. 5 minutes from the beach. At the foot of the mountain, a place so clear and peaceful. Incredibly kind hosts. Excellent breakfasts and very good advice for restaurants in the area.

This place is absolutely unique. The attention to details is 5 star. The interior design is unique and there are led lights every where providing ambient light. On arrival you are handed a mobile phone preprogrammed with all the numbers you need. The fridge is full of drink and you service your self.

we had the most wonderful time here at the beginning of our "tour de south africa". everything was just the way we wanted it to be. our hippo room had the most amazing view of the table mountain, breakfast was delicious, simon and the rest of thulani staff just wonderful and claudia and hartmut very helpful. our son loved the garden and especially the pool. we can´t wait to come back!

Our family spent seven nights with Claudia, Hartmut and the rest of the Thulani staff. They made us feel at home every minute and provided us with great infos on day trips and activities. Thulani lodge is extremly cozy and comfortable. The decoration has been done with great attention to detail and love for a nice environment. The breakfast at this lodge is fantastic as it includes crusty bread (Germans love it), a buffet with a variety of foods to chose from as well as eggs any style. Upon arrival we were handed mobile phones for local calls and to contact Claudia and Hartmut in case of emergency. Also, they supported us with bookings and reservations at restaurants and venues. All in all, we can only say, we hope to be back soon at this lovely place with such nice people.

The Thulani is a guesthouse amidst a nice lanscaped garden with a small river running across it. While others have complimented the place, I would like to add a note here that the standard room (River Double) where we stayed in, is not that great. For the price that one pays, one should be able to get a much nicer room elsewhere in the area. The River Double rooms are found at the back of the property, with no windows except for the front sliding glass door. As the 2 units are linked together with a self-catering unit in the middle, one can'f really leave the glass door open when one is lying in the room, as you will not have the privacy, with the neighbours being so close to you. And if you have to keep the door closed and draw the drapes, you might find the room hot and stuffy on a warm summer day, as we did.

There is no mini bar nor coffee making facilities in the room. When questioned, the owners said that they provided a great coffee machine in the common sharing pantry area in the main house. However, one needs to consider that it is a long way to walk, from the main house to these standard rooms that are found further down the property. One has to cross over a timber bridge, and this may not be easy for the elderly in the nights.

As we had stayed in a vineyard before driving into Hout Bay, we had purchased some nice wines, so we were quite upset when there was no minibar in our room to chill the wines! After much negotiation, the owner, Helmut agreed to let us store one bottle a day in the common sharing fridge.

Breakfast we very great though. There was a nice variety of good stuff, unlike most B&B where they usually serve you the standard stuff. I would give the breakfast a 5-star rating!! Obviously, Claudia is a great chef, and the daily menu that was displayed indicated that one could dine very well indeed at the guesthouse if one wishes to.

The main house itself is lovely and cosy. At night, you could sit in the lounge area and listen to music from a good sound system. There is also wi-fi in the area. Or you could sit outside by the pool or in the garden. The rooms upstairs the main house should be better than the standard room where we stayed in. The swimming pool is pretty small although the garden would be a nice place to laze around and enjoy a book in the sun.

There were many German elderly guests around. They were a friendly group, so if one is travelling alone, this might be a nice place to have some company.

Location-wise, the guesthouse is situated in a quite remote area, so one should have a car at one's disposal if staying there.

I have just visited Thulani River Lodge for a second time and have had a truly wonderful experience. Claudia and Hartmut are excellent hosts - attentive, knowledgeable but never intrusive. They both speak perfect English for non-German speaking guests. Praise must also be given to their team of staff and in particular Simon who prepares divine breakfasts. The accommodation is first class and I was lucky enough to stay in both the Hippo room and recently built tent. Luxurious and homely are words that spring to mind but no words can do justice to the superb quality of the accommodation. The views from the large and well kept garden are absolutely breathtaking of Table Mountain and the swimming pool and terrace are an added bonus.
Hout Bay is a superb place to stay and is perfectly situated and within easy reach of Cape Town, The Winelands and Chapmans Peak. All in all we have no hesitation in highly recommending Thulani River Lodge where you are guaranteed to have an amazing and memorable time.

This is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the breakfast is exceptional for this type of accommodation and the owners and staff could not be more friendly or helpful. It is a short drive into the centre of Hour Bay.

The best accommodation we have stayed at in Cape Town in 17 years of visits.
All you read on the website is true but still does not prepare you for how beautiful Thulani really is. The owners Claudia and Hartmut are exceptional hosts, nothing is too much trouble and every need has been anticipated in advance. They even provide their overseas guests with mobile phones preloaded with numbers of lots of restaurants and places of interest. Breakfast is a feast to keep you going all day. The house staff are led by Simon whose charming and helpful manner ensure everything runs smoothly. Security at the lodge is excellent with an overnight security guard, who also washes the guests cars.

Surprising location : along a kind of "private" route some 500 m from the center of Hout Bay.
Is a extraordinnary nice garden with Africat touch, you fount the main house with warm athmosphere. Our room (Hippo) was super : large with two very large "singel beds", with a private terras and a nice bathroom with a bath for 2 persons , view on garden !
Very kind (German) owners who advice you for restaurants and/or activities.
Nice winebar with a large choice of good wines. very safe prrivate parking.
A absolute must for those who wants to stay in a quite environnement, close to restaurants and really not far from Camps bay & cape town.
