Located under big trees in the most beautiful part of Swellendam (a must visit forest town) African Shades went over and above to accommodate me on my travels. The staff were amazingly friendly and professional.

Had a friendly reception. Neat, comfortable and inviting rooms. Breakfast was divine and with great effort prepared. Perfect place to stay over as a couple, with a family or Solo. Will recommend African Shades B & B to anyone travelling through Swellendam!

A pleasant place with friendly, helpful staff. We thought the breakfast was well presented and was good value for money. The room was clean, comfortable and neat. The outside of the rooms was neat and well kept and the swimming pool area was tidy and the pool very clean and inviting.

Spent just one night at African Shades on our way to Cape Town. Excellent hospitality from the hosts and their staff, very comfortable bed, lovely surroundings, clean and safe and the breakfast in the garden was superb. Will definitely be spending a few nights at the African Shades B&B in historic Swellendam the next time we visit South Africa!

Lovely cafe in pretty village on garden route. Nice place for a break. Great coffee and lovely staff. Also wifi. I cannot comment on the b&b as it was just a short stop, but the cakes looked fab- as did the kitchen.

Spent only one night, so unfortunately could not experience the full benefit of this quaint B n B. Also, the cloudy weather also imparted a bit of a grey sheen to the entire area. Nice, friendly hosts and staff, enjoyable breakfast - all the basics were in place. Only gripe was that both the biscuits and the milk were past...

This is a very pleasant town with colonial buildings and a pleasant environment. Africa Shades is on the edge of town but still close enough to walk safely to shops and restaurants. Classy place with a nice décor and plenty of trees for natural shade. Room was big and we had our won patio! Nice! Breakfast was nicely served and...

We had a nice , comfortable stay at African Shades in Swellendam. Just in the old part of Swellendam. We slept very well and enjoyed an extensive English style cookes breakfast. The waitress was enthousiastic.

What a pleasure to find this gem in Swellendam! After our booked guest house 'forgot' about our booking we found this B&B. Absolutely clean, nothing too much: from leaving fresh milk in your room to prepare a special lunch AND deliver it whilst hot... What more do one need?! What a pleasure that nothing was 'too much' to ask for...

“Could not fault a thing at this really nice place. Everything was perfect. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and there was not a thing out of place at the whole establishment. The location was ideal too. Breakfast was enjoyed at the owners restaurant across the road and this was really nice, we wanted for nothing during our three night stay.”
