City of korat is 300 km distance from the capital Bangkok, it took 3 hours by car from the airport. Small city, nothing interesting

Im preparing my self to sleep at you know average hostel, typical small township like korat.

But im totally wrong when i arrive at the Sima Thani hotel.

Yes it is 5 stars hotel, used to be Sheraton. Nice bedroom, spoken English staff, nice local Thai food breakfast, nice swimming pool and gym facility

Nice!

From checkin to the refurbished rooms, everything was simply great. Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner were nothing short of brilliant.cheap, (300 baht breakfast if not included with room, about the same fir lunch and dinners) but food was abundant, and bloody beautiful. Many varied choices including grilled meats/fish/kebabs (lunch, dinner) Japanese, service is exceptional, including the lobby bar, nothing short of just a great place to stay, pool, very clean with small gym and a one person steam sauna, but only downside is there was no pool service fir food or beverages, it apart from that, nothing but compliments for this place.

Thanks god - we only had to stay one night at this hotel!

From outside, it looks like one of these large multi-purpose hotels made with very little taste in the seventies/eighties/nineties (depending on the level of progress of taste in the region). Inside, you get a very unprofessional welcome, lousy and filthy rooms as well as a Swimming Pool which could be used for dozens of seminar or master works at the microbiological faculty of any major University - I am sure that there are dozens of unknown little animals that are waiting to be discovered by scientists in this broth.

When we were there, all other guests were single males - sometimes with local company - from various continents. There must be a lot of business to be done in this region ;-) - especially in the streets just beside the hotel.

But the worst is yet to come: the restaurant used for all meals is not only disgusting from a culinary perspective, but just insalubrious - to such an extent that I am wondering whether this is not an initiative of an NGO to put the sex tourists in this region out of order for at least three weeks, the time they need to get back home ...

To sum it up: take ANY hotel in this region - except this one!

I visited Khorat for business, so i chose this hotel. If, you are a bag-packer, then please look for other hotel. This hotel is very expensive(sorry, but you know, it's thailand. It's not paris or newyork!!), over $40 in a day. And, near the hotel, just japanese restaurant, bar, massage shop are located. No convenience store. In summary, for business, and if you have a transportation to move, then this hotel is the best choice in Khorat. For tour, it's O.K. if you are enough in budget.

We were very tired after travelling from Koh Chang, including a long bus trip from Trat, the trip wasnt so bad, but the air con broke down and everyone was quite hot on arrival in Korat.  Quite lucky that the hotel was on the main road into town, so we were dropped off virtually at the door by the bus.  We were really looking forward to our hotel by the time we got there.  What an oasis.  The hotel has a very spacious lobby, with a nice piano bar.  We stayed in a premier room, the room itself was large and spacious, timber features, very nice, big LCD tv, with an extremely comfortable king size bed.  There was a fantastic promotion on for dinner, an all you can eat buffet in the downstairs restaurant for 295 baht.  All the food was extremely high quality, including Japanese sushi and sashimi, selections of fine meats to be BBQ 'd as you like it, as well as all the usual asian and western choices in hotel buffets.  Exceptional value for money, great service, stylish hotel, truly 5 star.  Breakfast was also extensive and excellent. The location is on the edge of the city, but Ok for an overnight stay.  The hotel is not too far from the railway station, we left by train the next morning and caught a metered cab organized by the hotel, less than 60 baht and less than 10 minutes. Free Wifi was available in the room, each device needs a separate login, so if you have more than one device, ask for 2 logins when you arrive.

We picked Sima Thani because we thougth it was the best hotel in Korat.

After staying here we must say, it is good but not great.

After checkin we found on arrival at our roomn that it was a Smoking Room - having 5 months earlier at time of booking requested a Non Smoking room!

My wife ( thai ) contacted reception and asked for a non smoking room, to which they replied 'are none' we try to find you less smelly room!

Well a quick trip to the manger by myself found us upgraded to a better room - non smoking of course.

The continental evening buffet is really good - must do and enjoy.

Would I stay here again - probably not.

More expensive than others but seemed worth it, didn't sample all the facilities, but nice, clean and comfortable. Stayed in other hotels and this was the best one Isaan one i visited. The dining are for breakfast is a large hall so a bit canteenish - got the impression it was quite a wedding hotel. Not a lot to do close by but not bad either.

25.2.11 we stayed in Tower Wing Room: a good and quiet window against North. ABF buffet is good item, but you have to come earliest or after eight AM, because tour group will grasp quickly things quickly although food is enough for every body. quick room service and nice reception. will recommend friends to stay here. bad thing is WiFi internet available in all areas is costly / 100 bht/hour.
