Freedom Land (two words on their sign outside the front gate) is special for what it is and what it's not. What its not is conventional luxury. This is not 5 star place with all the amenities. No pool, not "on the beach", not great wifi and not even any hot water.. So why a five star rating? I think...

This place is special. When we first arrived at freedomland we weren't sure what to expect, we'd only booked for 2 nights. After 1 night we knew we wanted to stay longer, but so did everyone else! We went north for 3 nights and then came back to freedomland for another 7 nights. The evening meal was a delicious surprise,...

We spent 4 nights at Freedomland in January 2013. We basically decided to go there because of the TA reviews, particularly regarding the food. We were not disappointed, it was (as I tell everyone who'll listen) the best food I've had in my 35 years on the planet. 5 courses each night which were served in a lovely jungle setting...

I was at Freedomland with my boyfriend and his parents a few weeks ago and had an amazing experience. We live in Hanoi and it was an amazing break from cloudy skies and cold weather. Everything about Freedomland is perfect. The atmosphere is great, the staff are all lovely, the food is amazing, the bungalows are all very cool in...

stayed 4 nights in a super cute jungle bungalow with shower under the sky. the stuff is very welcoming, kind and truly smiling. Pitter makes good food (perhaps a bit too much....) and Rita helped providing tips. The beach is a short walk, quite and peaceful far away from long beach crowed. One of the stuff is sent when people...

I stayed here in December 2012 for four nights and each and everyone of them was amazing. Freedomland offers a experience so far removed for a sterile hotel environment that returning to a regular hotel afterwards only heightens the disappointment of leaving at the end of your stay further. The bungalows are sparsly furnished with a outdoor bathroom but the...

If I close my eyes, I can picture myself sitting in common area veranda next to the kitchen prep area. I am sipping on my wonderful Vietnamese coffee as Peter approaches to discuss the evenings dinner. He says he is not a chef, but I must disagree as I spent 25 plus years in a kitchen and never met a...

My Footprint guide recommended it, Trip Advisor recommended it but it was even better than I expected it to be. As a solo traveller, I thought I might get bored with 3 days at the beach and brought a big book. I barely got into it because I was too busy speaking to the other guests. It really is so...

Spent an amazing four nights in this jungle paradise and wish it would have been more! We had high expectations that were quickly surpassed by the charming bungalows, deserted beach, and incredible dinners. I would say if you are anywhere in Vietnam, no, anywhere in ASIA, make a point of visiting. Thanks to Peter, Rita and all of the friendly...

It's hard to imagine that a place could live up to the reviews we read about Freedomland; but it can and it does, and more. We stayed at Freedomland for three nights and left wishing that we could stay forever. Our bungalow was a work of art, the dinners were extraordinary, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly, the beach (a charming...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Freedomland offers an home style hospitality, where you can relax amongst friends you have just met, swapping stories over dinner after a day of adventure exploring the island or a day of total relaxation on the nearby beach. As each day goes by, you will appreciate we are not a hotel. LOCATION: Located 15 minutes walk to Ong Lang beach, nestled in a jungle-like area in the North West of Phu Quoc island. 20Km from the airport (about 45 min. Drive); 10km from the main town (15 min. Drive) BUNGALOWS: We designed our bungalows in harmony with the surrounding environment. They are opened enough to allow air flow, furnished with fans (no A/C), wooden furniture locally made and mosquito nets. There is no tv plasma, no hot water (method Kneipp ;), no hairdryers, no minibar and no air conditioned in our bungalows. FOOD & DRINK: Exclusively for lucky freedomland guests, family and friends every night we cook a communal dinner when everyone has the opportunity to meet, enjoy the food and the ambiance. Peter's cuisine is a skilful blend of vietnamese and European cuisine. All the guests fell in love with the Peter's cooking, and he likes sharing his love for food. ... more   less
