This is my first encounter with a safari lodge, but I cannot imagine that others can be much better. The rooms are spacious and clean, and like the public places have a splendid view on the river. From our terrace we spotted an elephant family, buffaloes, a giraffe, and some wild dogs... and the safari had not even started. The...

Overlooking the river our room was tastefully simple with fluffy white towels and crisp linen. The room was smaller and older in appearance to the rest of the river facing rooms, the only jarring aspect being the ugly black lounge which detracted from the attractiveness of the rest of the décor. We received a wonderfully enthusiastic orientation on arrival from one...

Everything about this place is fantastic, the staff, the location, the food and of course the animals. It is not 5* but you don't go on safari to be pampered, you go to see incredible animals in their natural surroundings and Umkumbe offers this in spades. I can't recommend this lodge enough, you really must go. We had seen the...

I was lucky enough to spend two days here during a business trip. The Lodge is amazing, the staff are fantastic, as is the food but the highlight is the off road game driving. Nikki who was my ranger and Moses my tracker, both went out of their way to find the best game viewings, once spotted they were able...

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Umkumbe. We really liked the deck overlooking the river- saw a huge herd of elephant there. Special thanks to Bradley, a very knowledgeable and informative guide.

A good, affordable safari experience in the Sabi Sands with game rangers that are very knowledgeable. Comfortable accommodation in the luxury rooms. Could have done with teas and coffees in the rooms. Tasty, home cooked food. Of course, Sabi Sands always delivers when it comes to game viewing. We had excellent sightings. The service from management was a little disappointing...

This place is amazing! We had the best time. So informative. Our driver Bradley will blow your mind if you get a chance to ride with him. Saw the big five and saw baby leopards on their first hunting excursion. All in all HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Food was superb. Accommodation was superb.

A small lodge, with small and larger bungalows. Beds with mosquito nets. Buffet-style meals, at times a bit fatty... but overall good. We really appreciated the billard and dart room, where teenagers and adults can enjoy a cheerful evening without disturbing the other guests. Super comfy Land Rover to go on safaris. A very special thanks to our ranger Mauritz...

This was our second visit to Umkumbe and we were not disappointed. The new superior rooms are beautiful, as is the whole lodge. The outlook over the Sand River is magnificent and provides a constant stream of animals coming to drink during the day. Our guides, Mauritz and Marius, were both extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions....
