If you have one place to go for your African Adventure, make it MalaMala. We went on a family vacation in June 2016 to Africa and this was one of our stops. We saw more wildlife here than our other locations and we saw it consistently during our morning and afternoon game drives. Our ranger (Bnz) knew how to get... More

This was our second stay at Mala Mala, the first in the main camp and this time in the smaller Sable Camp which has its own dining area, guides, and staff. This is a stunning property, luxurious in every sense of the word. Huge suites with his and her bathrooms, king size bed, desk and dressing tables, seating area with... More

This was my second trip to Mala Mala and was just as wonderful as the first. Fabulous food, perfect accommodations and amazing bush drives. Paul and Monet were very knowledgeable guides and fun to be with. The wildlife was incredible. We saw many more animals in winter than I saw in Fall on my visit in 2014. Cannot wait to... More

Four kids and their spouses were invited by their parents for a celebration trip to Africa. After a long flight from the USA, we started out in MalaMala Sable Camp in South Africa and had an amazing experience. Key contributors to our amazing experience were the two Rangers: Adi and Dave and the staff under the leadership of Ryan. I... More

Our travel agent booked us into the Main Camp but we were switched to Sable Camp to balance out work load for staff. We think this was a no cost upgrade for us. The guides here are more than guides. They are your total contact for all services. Our main complaint is that it took the front desk over 24... More

We have stayed in multiple reserves in Kenya but MalaMala was absolutely over the top! The rangers were incredibly knowledgable (and they are with you nearly 100% of the time, sharing their knowledge over meals too), the staff very attentive, the food was outstanding (with many vegetarian options). Our room was amazing with two bathrooms in each connecting double (4... More

Mala Mala, is what I would call the ultimate in game lodges, we wanted for nothing and had a fantastic 10 day stay. Bringing a group of 14 persons to a lodge is always a task, but everyone from the lodge Manager, through the spectacular guides, the fabulous chef and staff made my job a breeze. During the 10 days... More

Didn't really expect much from what I had heard about safaris in Kenya, etc. (Drive for hours and perhaps spot a grazing animal or two). Nothing could have prepared me for the thrill of following a pride of lions for four days. Being 10' away from magnificent leopards (and adorable cubs). Nearly extinct rhino. Elusive cheetah. Too many more to... More

This was our first Safari and what a way to begin! They are not kidding when they say you can see the Big 5; we saw them every day of our 4 night trip. The ranger, Robin was fantastic. His knowledge of all the various species, from their habits to their personalities was a real education. We spent time with... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
MalaMala Game Reserve is the Safari Industry's blueprint to the luxury photographic safari. In existence since 1927, this massive thriving tract of land produces the most exciting wildlife experience this side of the equator. MalaMala Game Reserve is the largest private Big Five game reserve in South Africa. Comprising 13 300 ha (33 000 acres), MalaMala shares a 19 km (12 mile) unfenced border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lies strategically sandwiched between the National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve. For over four decades, Michael Rattray has remained focused on his objective to preserve and protect the land over which he is custodian. Allowing nature to move to its innate rhythm, guests experience today what the forefathers of the African Safari would have experienced at the turn of the century. This philosophy has paid off, as experienced by a veritable collection of photojournalists and film-makers who have made MalaMala their destination of choice to capture footage of wildlife viewing that would rival any Hollywood production for thrilling and breathtaking animal encounters. MalaMala's Camps (MalaMala Main Camp, Sable Camp and Rattray's on MalaMala) are the embodiment of an authentic safari experience pioneered at a time when the safari was simple - unassuming camps, vast sweeping plains, the African sky and the bush in all its splendour. Wellness was the feeling after a long day in the wild. Cigars were shared without pomp and ceremony. Guests to MalaMala will still spend hours beneath an inky sky in the traditional boma exchanging stories from the wild - a sumptuous meal, good company and relaxed faces warmed by the crackling fire, accompanied by the nocturnal symphony of sound. ... more   less
