Wonderful wonderful wonderful. The villas are lovely with his and hers bathrooms, plunge pool (not heated), outdoor shower, deck, river view, sitting and dining area and very comfy bed but the safaris steal the show. Post afternoon safari There are pre-dinner drinks, followed by dinner in the boma, on the deck or in the restaurant with each set of jeep...

My review is based half on the "safari experience" and half on the resort itself. First the resort is very expensive, at $2,000 USD a day I feel it's very overpriced. The rooms are more like villas with a lot of space that really isn't needed. They do sit on a river which is nice, but the "heated pool" is...

Rattrays is very elegant with our private villa having a his and her bathroom, and outdoor plunge pool. All overlook the river Sand so great game viewing from your window and verandah when animals come in to drink. Furnishings colonial style luxury. Food was great, but all buffet style. Our ranger was superb and went to great lengths to give...

We went to Rattray's in August to celebrate both our 20th anniversary and my husband's birthday, and it did not disappoint. Everyone who worked there was friendly and professional, our kaya (cottage) was beautiful and spacious, and our safaris out to see the animals were thrilling and and fun. Our kaya: We stated in Unit #4 and it was gorgeous....

This was one of the two camps where we stayed, on a safari booked through Africa Adventure Co. Apparently that company does a lot of business with MalaMala, because we were upgraded to this camp at no additional charge (we were originally slated for Mala Mala Main Camp. Whew, what an upgrade! Everything about this camp was handled extremely professionally....

This review is long overdue. My husband and I spent 4 nights of our dream honeymoon here, and we still can't stop talking about what an amazing time we had. This was our favorite part of our honeymoon which also included Cape Town and The Seychelles. The accommodations at Rattray's were incredible, and the service superb. From the moment we...

what an experience! We have travelled widely and found this place excellent in every way. The ranger was expert at his job and very nice in addition. As the animals can roam freely from within the Kruger Park and at this camp we quickly saw many, not just the big five. The area is quite beautiful also, along a river...

This lodge falls within the Top 3 Lodges we have ever stayed at and for the price I would have expected it to be head and shoulders over the opposition... it is a superb lodge... but is it my personal winner? Probably not but it could be! As some reviewers have alluded to, this is not an all inclusive lodge......

Rattray's is One of the very best. From your personal safety to the accommodations, & food, . My ranger Roan was one of the best I've had. But seemingly all of The Rangers at Mala Mala are very knowledgeable , and very capable to try to fulfill your wishes. I traveled with my adult son..

Rattray's is a great camp to see the Big Five and wildlife in South Africa - we were there for our honeymoon and had such a fabulous time! It was our favorite camp (of the luxury lodges we visited) not only because of the animals and wildlife we've seen but also because of the people (guides), lodging and overall experience....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
MalaMala Game Reserve is the Safari Industry's blueprint to the luxury photographic safari. In existence since 1927, this massive thriving tract of land produces the most exciting wildlife experience this side of the equator. MalaMala Game Reserve is the largest private Big Five game reserve in South Africa. Comprising 13 300 ha (33 000 acres), MalaMala shares a 19 km (12 mile) unfenced border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lies strategically sandwiched between the National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve. For over four decades, Michael Rattray has remained focused on his objective to preserve and protect the land over which he is custodian. Allowing nature to move to its innate rhythm, guests experience today what the forefathers of the African Safari would have experienced at the turn of the century. This philosophy has paid off, as experienced by a veritable collection of photojournalists and film-makers who have made MalaMala their destination of choice to capture footage of wildlife viewing that would rival any Hollywood production for thrilling and breathtaking animal encounters. MalaMala's Camps (MalaMala Main Camp, Sable Camp and Rattray's on MalaMala) are the embodiment of an authentic safari experience pioneered at a time when the safari was simple - unassuming camps, vast sweeping plains, the African sky and the bush in all its splendour. Wellness was the feeling after a long day in the wild. Cigars were shared without pomp and ceremony. Guests to MalaMala will still spend hours beneath an inky sky in the traditional boma exchanging stories from the wild - a sumptuous meal, good company and relaxed faces warmed by the crackling fire, accompanied by the nocturnal symphony of sound. ... more   less
