We stayed while driving to Colorado. Was looking at the Blue Swallow, but this had better rates and I am obsessed with the Mid-Century modern style, so we chose this one. Great decision. The rooms are so cute and seem like they're frozen in time! The motel had great little sitting areas outside, adorable CLEAN rooms, and a retro vibe....

I believe this place is in better shape than when our family originally stayed there over 40 years ago. Staff was very accommodating and even turned our room lights on for our late-night arrival. Room was very clean and authentic, yet updated. Coffee shop and motel grounds were a nice bonus for this extremely budget-friendly stay.

Had a quick overnighter here. Nice folks, comfortable size room & clean. We travel with pit bulls and had no issues! No coffee machine in room, so note time Circa opens for coffee. Owner is super nice, so maybe ask for a coffee maker?

I have been spending one week a year here for 5 years now. The rooms are very, very clean and the mattress is excellent. The shower is good, with tons of hot water. There is no style to the rooms but they function well, and there is plenty of storage for a week's stay. The owners are wonderful, and the...

While I certainly want to thank you for your review, I do feel the need to address a statement that was made within your review. The style of the guest rooms is nearly as it was when the motel was designed and completed in 1963. In fact, when initially restoring the motel and then again during its subsequent remodeling, we...

Great choice to see a but of Historic Route 66. Bed, pillows, a.c., hot water, check-in/out were all excellent. Cathy called the local restaurant to ensure they were still open. Coffee shop next door was great, too. Highly reccomended.

I always stay here on trips between K.C. MO and Tucson. Always clean and nice rooms. The folks that run the place are nice. I don't like staying at the big chains - invariably, I've got to drag my stuff up to the 2nd or 3rd floor. I like to park right in front of my room - easy in...

Loved this old fashioned but updated motel. Really nice hot water for a bubble bath, very near Dels restaurant where we ordered take out, and a nice lady at reception. Great spot to bring a dog with grass nearby plus a park next door.

I was happy to find this motel open and with a room. I noticed that several of the motels in Tucumcari were closed (maybe for the Winter)? This was a budget motel, but my room was clean, comfortable and well-maintained, with a Route 66 vibe. I probably would have given it 4 stars, except there was no blow dryer. Otherwise,...

We were on our way home from Vegas and Tucumari was the right distance to stop for the night. I searched Trip Advisor to see what hotels were available and reviews for them. This hotel had gotten alot of good reviews and had good ratings so we booked it online. The room was retro looking and very clean. The room...

Stayed one night on a cross-country trip. Great, personable service, clean rooms, nice beds, and our pleasure to support a non-chain hotel. Good wifi, good coffee shop, really neat antique planes and cars on the property.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Historic Route 66 Motel is a mid-century modern hotel that is similar in style and atmosphere to hotels and homes designed by Mies van der Rohe, Joseph Eichler, and Oscar Niemeyer. Built in 1963, both the exterior and interior is more than a little reminiscent of "California Modern", a style that was so popular until the latter sixties. Our mission is to provide clean, private, and comfortable overnight accommodations for guests at an extremely reasonable rate. Refrigerators and microwaves are available in select rooms. The Motel also includes a popular European Style Espresso Bar on the west wing where guests receive a 10% discount on all items and an exterior corridor, where guests can park directly, or nearly directly, in front of their rooms. The Historic Route 66 Motel is operated by a professional staff directly managed by the owners. ... more   less
