The Garden City Hotel is not providing Valet Parking or Bellhop service and using the excuse it is due to Covid. It is not a nice experience to arrive at the hotel in the rain (while a Bellhop employee stands there and does absolutely nothing to help), have to unload the car in the rain and carry the luggage because there are no carts available. Absolute lame excuse, if I wanted a Motel 6 I would have booked a room there.
This was my first stay, and it was for pleasure/ relaxation. The entrance is beautiful. Front desk host(s) are extremely friendly/pleasant.But when I entered my suite, I fell in love. Very clean and cozy. pleasant. Only stayed a night, as I had to go to work.. But I will definitely be going back for a longer stay.
I’ve spent 8 nights here for work (not by choice). It needs serious investment. The staff can be rude, rooms old and don’t even have proper duvets (it’s just an old rug with a sheet). The only positive is free coffee, although I suspect this will disappear post COVID. Every time I need something in reception I have to shout as staff hiding in back office. Not terrible, but huge room for improvement.
I stayed here last minute to be near the hospital due to my father in laws unexpected declining health. I wanted a hotel with a bar, pool, on site restaurant, and room service, and this hotel checked all the boxes. Unfortunately, we stayed Monday - Wednesday so the bar and restaurant weren’t open. The pool is closed due to covid (fitness facilities are open). We did order room service the night we arrived which operated until 9pm. The first night we were able to order a cocktail, but the 2nd night, beer and wine only. There was no breakfast room service which is another weekend only amenity. The penthouse/club level was nice, only those staying on that floor could access via the elevator (have to swipe your room key). We wanted to extend until Friday, but ended up at another hotel because of the pool situation (we travelled with a 2 year old who needed something else to do between trips to the hospital and home of family). Despite covid disrupting all the other amenities, the staff/customer service made up for it. Front desk personnel were very courteous and professional, greeting us each time we came and went. They even gave a rubber ducky to my son who played with it the entire time. We were able to order coffee and cups of milk without an issue. It was nice being able to hear “yes” so much despite all the other stress we were under. If it weren’t for the pool, we would have stayed all week, but I understand why it was closed.…
The Garden City Hotel is an excellent choice of hotels in the area. We had a staycation here for a quick getaway and enjoyed every moment. The hotel is beautiful and staff friendly (especially those that helped with making all of our reservations). Our room was nicely decorated, spacious and very clean. Bed was comfortable and we had a great night’s sleep. The marble bathroom was a good size, bright and also spotless (although the water pressure could definitely be improved). A few options are available for drinks and dining at King Bar and Red Salt Room which were enjoyable. Overall a great stay at Garden City Hotel!
