Thank you to everyone at Little Mak for an amazing start to our recent Zimbabwe holiday -- especially Kim, Natalie and our fantastic guide, Dickson, as well as all the behind-the-scenes staff who made our trip so memorable. Hwange was beyond anything we had anticipated, with huge herds of elephant and buffalo and lions in abundance and fascinating terrain with... More

Best stay on our safari trip. Little Mak is definitely a gem. Kim is a great hostess--always ready with a cool towel and manages everything so well. Leo our guide was excellent -- knowledgeable, fun to be with, and makes a very good gin and tonic for our sundowners. Loved our family cabin as well. Was great for me, my... More

Dear Judy, We are so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your recent stay at Little Makalolo! Saying that it was the "best stay" on your trip is high praise indeed - thank you so much. We have stayed at 7 safari camps in Botswana and Zimbabwe. This was our first trip into Zimbabwe. We were pleasantly surprised. Little Makalolo is not quite as high end as some camps we have stayed in but is the difference of the Hilton or the Marriott. The room may not be quite as large or as much storage space... More

A quite different yet equally good experience to that we enjoyed at Linkwasha. The more traditional and rustic layout lent itself to a more relaxing and homely environment. The food was good but perhaps not quite the level of Linkwasha. But the hospitality of Kim and her staff was outstanding.Game viewing great, in particular the fantastic hide at the water-hole... Dear Jeremy, Wonderful to see that you got to experience two of our camps in Hwange on your recent trip, as along with a third, Davison's, they all have their own characters, catering to different preferences. The hide at Little Makalolo is definitely a great spot to view wildlife from a slightly different angle - glass of something chilled in... More

If you're interested in seeing and observing elephants, this is the place to go. Hundreds if not thousands were in the national park here. The Wilderness Camp (Little Makalolo) is beautifully situated and the accommodations are first rate. The food is excellent as well. This small camp is in a great location right next to a watering hole. Frequently there were 40 or so elephants around the water. We also saw giraffes, sable, and warthogs at the hole. Little Makalolo is a delightful stay with a friendly and very very accommodating staff. The tents were lovely as usual and the water hole out front provided good viewing. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Charming and intimate, Little Makalolo's location in the south-east of Hwange lends it a sense of seclusion and remoteness. Nestled into the treeline, the camp overlooks a productive waterhole that draws large numbers of wildlife, observed up close from the log-pile hide. Elephant, buffalo, giraffe and zebra are regular visitors, while special sightings include sable, roan and eland. The area is best explored on game drives and guided walks, with special extras like an unexpected pizza or a night spent under the stars on the Madison Pan star-bed platform. • 6 tents (1 family) • game drives • nature walks • Madison Pan star-bed • log-pile hide • village visits ... more   less
