The Sheldon Mansion, an Historic Inn, is an exceptional Bed & Breakfast, which has been lovingly restored to the original splendor of the gilded age of over a century ago. It was built in 1906 by slate baron Fredrick Sheldon on a beautiful 10-acre estate. Even then, people were pleasantly surprised by the inviting feel of such an impressive 34-room mansion. This wonderful Inn opened shortly after current owners Stephen and Marianne Lynch exchanged wedding vows on the Veranda and made it their residence. Since then it has provided a beautiful home away from home for hundreds of satisfied guests who have awakened to a magnificent breakfast. The Sheldon Mansion provides an exclusive sanctuary with only five guest rooms. Every convenience is provided including free WiFi. Each room is beautifully appointed and has a private full bath, blending historic charm with modern comforts. All of the rooms are subtly themed after area locations with antiques, artwork, books and memorabilia. The most impressive accommodation is the Granville Suite with a private sitting room. The Eagle Bridge provides a Grandma Moses theme. The Champlain celebrates the lakes region. The Saratoga has a collection of horse racing and casino heritage. The Arlington presents a Norman Rockwell theme. Breakfast is a special event and is served in the second floor solarium overlooking the village with lovely picturesque views of the mountains. Guests can also relax in Mrs. Sheldon's comfortable Sitting Room, mingle in the graceful Formal Parlor, or unwind on the sweeping Veranda. Mr. Sheldon's English Study serves as either a classic gentlemen's retreat or as a highly functional office for business travelers. The Formal Dining Room can serve as the setting for elegant catered events or special business meetings. The Inn and its grounds are available for special occasions or smaller indoor functions such as parties and business conferences. Innkeepers Stephen and Marianne provide personal touches and enjoy meeting the variety of guests and sharing their experiences. Many have traveled from around the country and even around the world and have marveled at this area's history and natural beauty. The Sheldon Mansion is a unique gem. It has been saved and restored to once again serve the area in the elegant manner for which it was originally designed. Rooms are surprisingly affordable and include a full breakfast. You can find out more by visiting the official web site.

My kids and I have been staying here on weekends for our ski trips. Typically the peak season for this hotel is the summer due to its close proximity to Lake George and Saratoga Springs. However, we have been staying here in the "offseason" for skiing, and its been perfect for what we were looking for! The hotel is within driving distance to multiple ski resorts. Within a 40-60 minute drive you can hit 5 Vermont Mountains: Bromley (40 minutes), Magic Mountain (50 minutes), and Stratton, Okemo and Killington (1 hour). Its also within a 1 hour 15 drive to Gore Mountain. The hotel is an historic mansion converted into a cozy, quaint, comfortable B&B. It is owned and operated by husband and wife, Steve and Marianne, who live in the back portion of the mansion. Steve and Marianne provide just top notch exceptional service for their guests. They went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as pleasant and convenient as it could be. They are just two incredibly generous and caring people, and its clear that they truly love what they do! They make you feel like you are one of the family, like the place is your home. And the brownies they left for us were a big hit with the kids! We stayed in the Granville suite which features an extra bedroom off the main room with two single beds which was great for the kids! The rooms were clean, linens and towels fresh and beds were comfortable. The hotel is within walking distance to a little downtown with bunch of restaurants, pizzeria, couple of bars and nice little market for food, sandwiches, pizza and drinks. And Dunkin Donuts is a short 2 minute drive for those early morning coffees. I can't recommend this place enough- whether its the summer or winter, especially for skiing. You won't go wrong here!

We had a great overnight at Sheldon Mansion. Lots of room, comfortable sleeping, great breakfast. The mansion is beautiful, we look forward our next visit in warm weather so we can enjoy the outdoor areas. Our host and hostess were so accommodating, they offered anything we needed. We highly recommend the Sheldon Mansion if you are visiting Granville or the surrounding beautiful area.

My wife and I needed to find a place to stay near my daughter's new home (not ready for house guests). So, we looked at Granville, New York and found the Sheldon Mansion, and spent two delightful evenings there this past weekend. Granville is a quiet but charming little town right against the Vermont border. We didn't expect to find such a first class B&B in such a sleepy part of NY. Actually, Granville is well situated if one wishes to take advantage of Vermont skiing or the rustic beauty that state has to offer, but at the same time stay within easy visiting distance of both Saratoga Springs and Lake George. The Sheldon Mansion is run by the proprietors, Steve and Maryanne, who are very warm and accommodating. The Sheldon Mansion is an extraordinary place in which to spend a few nights. Entering the foyer gives one the feeling of stepping back in time to the late Victorian or Edwardian era.The are five rooms and we stayed in the "Saratoga". Each room is meticulously appointed with period antiques and decorative arts. Even the common areas leave no detail unaccounted for. It was like living in a scene from Masterpiece Theater. The evening we arrived, my wife and I had brought along a bottle of Champagne which we shared in the parlor while being regaled by Steve on the history of the Mansion and the region. In the morning, at the time I was invited to appoint, coffee was available, and breakfast followed precisely when I had requested it. I can honestly say it was a unique experience, and I apologize to my fellow New Yorkers from upstate, if as one from NYC, I was as surprised as I was delighted.

Sheldon Mansion is a unique and very cool residence. Stephen was a treasure trove of information about the building, the slate industry, and culture of the surrounding area. The mansion is right by a bike trail, which was a plus for us. Our room was attractive and cozy, and we enjoyed our stay.
