Monkey Bay Mufasa Backpacker Lodge is a paradise...perfect for those who prefer to relax without the interruption of prospective craft salesman. Rikki and Staff are very friendly and will keep you remembering this quiet gem of a place.

Mufasa is in a lovely place- a little paradise completely detached from the reality of Malawi. Which is quite nice for a few days really. The lodge itself seems a little bit like a work in progress- it looks lovely and there's nice places to sit but functionally its not amazing. When I arrived, nobody gave me a tour or...

I have visited this lodge innumerable times over the last ten years and it remains a favourite of mine.. Private beach, gorgeous sunsets, quirky chill out areas and a reasonable price. Off the grid, with a fire pit and great host- I have any happy memories here! Food is basic but plentiful and cold drinks are always available :)

I did not stay here but visited for the day. Location is awesome if you want: Secluded cosy sand space by the lake in a jungle-like arena. There are rooms located on the beach within metres of the water. (As are most of the lodges in Monkey Bay -quiet stand alone serene lodges and Cape Maclear -touristic lively zone). Clean,...

This place is a little more run-down or undercontruction (hard to tell) since I stayed here two years prior. Ownership has changed hands a few times I heard but it's a really nice location. Food service was a little bit minimal and like many restaurants in Malawi, they don't have everything on the menu. It's not the cheapest restaurant in...

We stayed here for 1 night after taking the Ilala and to be honest it wasn't our best stay. This place had been recommended to us by fellow travellers but I'm not sure why whether it was just because it was cheap or other reasons. 10.000 Kwacha for a room is not much but cheap does not necessarily mean good....

We stayed at Mufasa's Lodge for a short weekend away with a large group of friends. The lodge is absolutely beautiful and the dorms are a good price, not too expensive which is good for a budget traveller. The bar staff are all very friendly and fun and the lake is beautiful to swim in. There's not much going on...

Was looking to stay here for a night and stayed here for 5. Ricki and Jess were good value, with Mickey a friendly face behind the bar. Everyone meets each other at the lodge so its good vibes. It is cash only with one cash point in town. A fun and friendly walk into town with plenty of big Malawian...

It was in an absolute fab location and great place to stay and the owner will accommodate all the different budget travellers. Staff were not very friendly apart from Jessy and the owner attitudes towards her staff were not very pleasant. Perhaps its the time for her to review the situation and staffing.

Plus side: Friendly staff, nice owner, and the temporary assistant Jessie was great. Nice location. Decent coffee and food. Downside: I don't usually stay in backpackers so maybe it's par for the course, but to me it all seemed in need of deep cleaning and freshening up e.g. new tablecloths. The staff need customer care training - they are pleasant...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Have you been searching for heaven on earth or an exotic place or simply a place to chill.....Mufasa Eco Lodge situated in Monkey Bay has it all.... As you enter this stunning place, take your time and climb "Jam Rock" on your left, takes just 2 min. and explore in an almost 360 degree view, what Mother Nature has created at a secluded spot at Lake Malawi. The majestic silence and the soft breeze will only be interrupted by chirping birds, the call of the fish eagle, the sound of the warm and inviting crystal clear water and everything else you expect in paradise. Don't forget your camera to take the first pictures and see what you let yourself into over the coming days.... or come back for a romantic sunset with a glass of wine or an ice cold beer. After this first amazing impression our friendly staff will warmly welcome you and show you around. From the bar to the restaurant with an all day menu, to the chill out area, you will feel that you have just arrived at the right spot at the right time. The campsite built on different levels in the shade of the mountain flora and the marvelous view over the beach site and its unique surrounding invites you to become an explorer as one camp spot is built in a small cave. You prefer a decent bed and a roof above your head. We offer Double, Twin, Single and Dorm Rooms right on the beach, cozily furnished, with solar lighting and mosquito netting. A local mosaic artist ensured that you will enjoy your hot or cold shower any time of the day or night. Next to our restaurant we offer a braai area for those who like to cook for themselves. The soft solar lighting will ensure that you find your way at night, without disturbing the fire sparks floating up in the air or the ability to see that the stars do shine brighter over Africa. This will be the moment of truth, when you realize that this place can heal the weary traveler's body and soul and revitalize the spirit.
