The staff could not be better at this delightful camp. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and kind. We had an issue with one of our flights further into the holiday and as there is no internet access at Shumba, Ondyne and Mwamba our camp managers sorted everything out for us with apparent ease. We were very lucky to have...

This place is the best safari camp we have ever been to . The 1 1/2 hr flight in a small pklane from Lusaka is the greatest challenge but having done that you are in a flood plane with large amounts of wild life . Really nice, well run camp. The staff are super friendly and fun to be around. Food was also amazing and the management really flexible and helpful with guests wherever they could be, very impressive. The game is not as prolific as elsewhere in Africa perhaps, but there's is a lot to see including cheetah and sable amongst1 others. Balloon ride...

I provided a road transfer in August and saw lots of game along the way. Shumba lodge has excellent facilities and the warm hospitality of the staff is second to none. It was well worth the long drive. Driving on the plains may be a little tricky because of the various tracks. It was a good thing that we had...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Seasonal camp running 01 June - 01 November. Shumba means ‘lion’ – an appropriate name for a camp located in the midst of several lion pride territories. Indeed, the felines are known for their tree-climbing abilities, and prey on the plethora of herbivores that frequent the Busanga Plains on which Shumba is situated. From the raised decks, the view is panoramic and often filled with grazing puku and lechwe; floodplain grasses stretch to the horizon, interrupted only by isolated protrusions of fig and palm trees. Finally, there is no better vantage point from which to absorb the Plains’ vast remoteness than from a hot air balloon. • 6 tents (1 family) • game drives • seasonal boating • hot air ballooning ... more   less
