We are a family run campground located in Lake Placid, NY. This campground offers quiet wooded tent and camper/RV sites as well as cabins. It's a great place to enjoy a hot shower and a campfire after a long day exploring the town or the mountains. Just remember, stress is caused by not camping enough...

The location of this campground is its strongest selling point. It is next to the Van Hoevenburg Recreation Area, 13 minutes from Adirondack Loj, only 8 minutes from Lake Placid. A nice place to set up a base camp. Showers are small and cramped, but have running hot water. Campsites are a bit close, but the place was not crowded when we were there so peace and quiet was not a problem.

3 of us stayed in a basic cabin for the weekend so we could do some hiking. Made a great base camp close to many trail heads. Basin was clean and campground was quiet. Had all the benefits of camping - fireplace and picnic table without all the work of setting up a tent.

Wife and I stayed here last summer. Very 'no frills' cabin, small bathroom and bunkbeds right next to the main bed. This place was exactly what we wanted, a quick overnight stay in a rustic cabin. The staff was friendly, the grounds were well kept. Yes, the showers are 'coin slot' operated. It was a throwback to a era a few decades back. I loved the place and will go again.

We were scheduled here Oct 8-9 for a simple overnighter on a cross-country trip. Two days before the date, heavy rains were predicted and indeed occurred at their location. Due to a roof leak we couldn't camp in the rain ( we were in the dry at our previous campsite), so we called with 2 days notice to cancel. They refused to cancel our reservation and charged our card the full amount anyway. I respect they are trying to run a business, but they have forever run my business away. If by some chance this is a misunderstanding and my charges reversed, I will be sure to acknowledge that here.

We've stayed 5 times in a little over a year so that really says it all.

We've rented a camping cabin which includes fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster. Water faucet external to the cabin. Fire pit, picnic table. Different configurations but ours had a double bed plus a bunk bed. Comfortable beds.
Immaculately clean.

For us the camping cabin is the perfect sweet spot between camping and a hotel. But they also have housekeeping cabins with a bathroom and kitchen if that's what you're looking for.

We haven't camped but we did take a look around. Lots of beautiful, private tent sites with mature tree cover. They have RV sites as well but can't comment on those.

Not a ton of amenities but there's a large field, a swing set, and a horseshoe pit to keep the kids occupied while you're making dinner. WIFI at the office.

If you're a hiker it's centrally located for the Loj, Garden, and Ausable trail heads.

If you're doing the Olympic Passport it's minutes from the bobsled run and the ski jump. And just 10 minutes to Lake Placid.

The Drapers are lovely. Friendly, accommodating, hard working. It's nice to be able to support a local, family owned business.

I haven't been camping in years, and based on my experience here, I will not be camping again soon.

Good: the individual campsites are mostly treed, and all are very large. We were able to fit a tent trailer and a 6-man tent very comfortably.

Bad: very, very noisy. The road (rte 73?) is very close. We also had two separate and loud parties within 100 yds of our campsite. There was no attempt by the campground to shut the parties down. My feeling is that the campground is not staffed at night.

Worse: toilets and showers (in our part of the campground) are decrepid. The building should be knocked down and re-built. For one day the gents shower (one stall only) was out-of-order.

I did not think coin operated showers still existed, but you will find them here. A bare bones campground with nice and quiet wooded sites. The location is very accessible to the high peaks of the Adirondacks. At least once I paid my quarters the shower was hot!

Needed a place to spend the night after a long drive up Friday for some backpacking in the High Peaks... can't beat it for $25. Could probably find a free stealth spot but for the price and proximity to the best trail heads why bother. Bathroom was clean, they sell firewood, short drive to Big Slide brewery... 👍🏻

We stayed here twice for 3-4 nights - excellent sites for RV. Easy to pull in and out! Flexible they let us drop off our RV in the morning so we could go into Lake Placid and set up in the evening. Family owned...we will be back! Pet friendly our Siberian huskies love drapers!

First weekend of new management. New management was a polite and generous family. Close to Cascade/Porter trailhead if you're into hiking, otherwise not too far from town. Overall a very nice stay. I would come again.
