After an arduous bus journey of about 6 hours from Nyahururu , we reached Yare Camel Camp at the setting sun. It was strikingly wild to find dozens of camels in an open enclosure beside the green camping ground and locals/military personnel's drinking beer indoor the vintage bar. The food was basic and beer chilled. We enjoyed the magnificent peace...

We stayed at the camp site on the way to Turkana, and it was a welcome green oasis after a long and dusty drive. The ablution blocks were decent enough considering: long drop for the toilets, but you could also use the proper washroom in the club. Showers and running water (cold water!). Flat ground for pitching tents and nice...

I'll be brief: The toilets are so disgusting that guests and campers are pissing in the bushes. The kitchen restaurant is not in use. I saw the 'chefs' preparing food in the middle of the room over a gas camping cooker. The showers in the cabins look like you could easily be electrocuted. The structures are crumbling. It pains me to write this review because I've stayed at the Yare several times but since there are no recent reviews I thought I should warn future travelers...DON'T STAY AT THE YARE!. I've stayed here many times as a tourleader, as a tourist and for charity purposes. I fell in love with the place when I first arrived in 1998 and have loved it since. The area is still quite unspoiled and Yare is a great base camp to learn more about Samburu culture. Also camel safari's with experienced Samburu guides are...
