#15 of 281 hotels in Zanzibar Island
Travellers' Choice
Zanzi Resort sits on the edge of the Indian Ocean, 15 km from the historic Stone Town and 30 minutes from the airport. Thirteen spacious, artistically designed villas and bungalows offer an intimate environment. Villas feature private pools, patios, gazebos, and tropical gardens. Zanzi Resort's garden bungalows, made of local wood and clay, are designed in the African spirit with a contemporary touch. The Indian Ocean is also accessible from the jetty. The resort, spread over six hectares of plush tropical gardens, has an excellent in-house restaurant and treatment area, offering ocean-side massages and the Japanese hot-stone treatment, gambanyoku. . Peace and privacy prevail. Local cuisine is prepared for an international palate with fresh seafood, organic vegetables, and spices from our own eco-plantation. Guests can dine in the restaurant, in the privacy of their villa or bungalow, or on the beach. A guest relations attaché is available to help plan day trips and excursions.

Zanzi Resort is really amazing resort. Resort has only 13 rooms/ bungalows with nice tropical private gardens. You can expect privacy and hight service above your expectations. The best part is that you can have your breakfast all day. They don't fixed it. There is a low and hight tight sea level but you have an access to the sea all day. If you want privacy, service, nice, clean room and tasty food- go there. Zanzi is defenitly one of the best small luxury hotels in the world.

We just returned from our 5 night stay Zanzi. It was absolutely amazing! I'm the type of person that reads practically every review about a resort before I stay, and I sometimes tend to be let down after reading all the stellar reviews with the resort not living up. Zanzi completely outdid itself, even after reading hundreds of reviews, my expectations were still exceeded. The resort itself is stunning, set in a lush tropical forest and the (2nd)best part about it is the privacy, they only have 12 or 13 villas so you'll never feel crowded like you can at most large scale resorts. Our stay was so peaceful and exactly the reprieve we needed from our busy lives. Now the best part of our stay was the staff, they were so incredibly friendly and every request was met with a smile and fast, efficient service. We even enjoyed a private dinner on the jetty one night to celebrate my husbands birthday and they came with a little surprise (I won't give it away, you'll just have to stay to find out :P) Not only is there is no fee on room service, there are also phones places around the resort IE jetty, pool, beach for you to call and order drinks and food etc. Breakfast doesn't have a specific timing so can you order when suits you. Dinner, oh boy where do I start?! We are huge foodies and we LOVED the food! Their chef is a rare talent indeed, everything from the flavours & the presentation to the pairing was DELICIOUS. The sea can be a little difficult to access particularly during low tide so they built a beautiful long jetty from which you can swim/snorkel from or even just sit and watch the stunning sunset. It's not the same sand and water that you find further north but the hotel offers day trips to Nungwi among other places. (We stayed in Nungwi a few nights before we came to Zanzi resort and we could have easily made it a day trip. Nungwi does have beautiful beaches but that is ruined hoards of tourists and vendors trying to get you to buy something every 5 mins.) As the resort is built around a tropical forest there is so much beautiful wildlife, if you keep your eyes peeled you might be lucky enough to see some very cute animals. (N.B this resort is set in a tropical forest so if you can't handle a few small critters, you should probably look for a vacation in an urbanised city, not a tropical paradise. Having said that we used the repellent they provided and had zero issues with mosquitos, they also have mosquito nets for when you sleep). In short, I would absolutely recommend Zanzi resort to anyone looking for a relaxing or romantic holiday. A special thanks to Emeline, Nivot and all the staff for such a fantastic stay.

The resort is outstanding, unique and authentic african/jungle experience. They only have 13 villas if I remember correctly. Each villa/bungalow provides absolute privacy and your own garden just for you to use. We were welcomed by the sales manager Emi, who was incredibly friendly, helpful and explained everything in the intro-welcome tour. If you report any issue/concern, Emi deals with it immediately and goes beyond everything to resolve it!! Amazing. The accommodation was spacious and great. We tried garden bungalow and also ocean-front villa with a private pool. The villa was amazing, superb, unique, simply the best. We would not choose the garden bungalow (it has insufficient insulation and you can hear the night jungle all night). The hotel provides room-service free of charge, therefore you can order your meal/drink to your room, to the beach, to jetty - and they have phones everywhere so you can call them. The dining experience in this hotel was also great - they provide a la carte option only, but this is the best they can do and is absolutely worth it. The dinner menu is never known beforehand, but the chef prepares it every night based on fresh ingredients he has that day. The atmosphere in the restaurant was always amazing including authentic african performances, and the staff is simply stunning, friendly, smiling, always helpful, they know you by your name and remember you. This hotel really exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it to everybody. Absolutely incredible atmosphere.

Room Tip: ocean-front villa with pool is the best, but all types of accommodation provide absolute privacy.

Absolutely beautiful resort just north of Stone Town, on the western side of the island. Friendly staff, delicious food and drinks, clean and comfortable accommodations, stellar sunsets. Staff went above and beyond in their hospitality and helpfulness. I was sad to leave, and look forward to returning!

After visiting several top resorts in Zanzibar, my family and I have fallen in love with the Zanzi Resort and came back here again. It offers the most authentic and luxurious setting as well as genuine care for the guests 24/7. It’s perfect both for a romantic or family trip and solo travelers as it has a mixture of secluded private atmosphere and a variety of amazing excursions. I have visited the Sandbanks, Prison Island and Chetahs Rock, all of which I highly recommend, next time coming to visit the others as well:) The food and the restaurant at the resort are also Top, very fresh and delicious, and I was lucky to witness a live band and dancing, which I’m especially grateful for as during these difficult times everything is closed in Austria, so dancing and listening to great life music was a pure joy! Whoever is reading this in 2020, don’t hesitate to travel to Zanzibar despite the unprecedented times, Zanzi Resort is really safe as they always take care of the safety measures. Thank you, or “Asante” to everyone, looking forward to coming back again!🌴
