Excellent hotel with superb service. The location is 11/10. Spacious room. Beautiful pool with an ocean view. Delicious food, especially fruits and vegetables. Not too many vegan choices, but the chefs are really helpful with finding solutions. No AC in rooms. Beds somewhat hard.

Beach was lovely but a few locals being pushy with tourist tat, resort does its best to discourage this but still happens on the public beach. There is a really nice infinity pool overlooking the beach. But was the other end of the resort so we didn’t use much. Spent most of our time lazing on the beach and in hammocks. Family/couples orientated so expect a few screaming children around at all times We obviously missed the welcome drink/orientation and were charged our 1st breakfast due to our early arrival time on the first day, check-in 8/9 am? Which wasn't an ideal start to our week's holiday. The cleaning team wasn't exactly 100% felt a bit like 'island time' which was expected but annoying when you're still waiting for towels at 5 pm. Moody one of the Head waiters always friendly Agness 1? Genuinely friendly unlike the others who feel a bit robotic and like they are reading a script. Great breakfast with daily rotating cooked menu After 3/4 days staff started pushing 'special beach dining' and boat tours which we politely declined (as we've done many of these things previously) Staff aren't amazing at English but are friendly anyway way, and their English is better than my Swahili so 🤷🏼‍♂‍ Looked like they were closing for the offseason

This was my third time to stay at Pongwe Beach Hotel and it is my favorite place in the world and I try and come once a year. The staff and service are exceptional, the food is magnificent. Its peace and tranquility along with the spectacular beach and beautiful cottages and infinity pool are what dreams are made of. I look forward to returning next year again.

Secluded paradise on Zanzibari coast. Comfortable rooms with nice air, no ac is the benefit due to the fresh ocean breeze at night. Beautiful beach just in front of the hotel. Very friendly staff, excellent waiters and waitresses, and food is coming always directly from heaven. Great seafood platter. Definitely place to come back again for much longer stay!

Let me be honest. You get from the airport to the hotel and it is like heaven. A picture like beach, premises, a tranquil sport. The beach is one of the best, few sea urchins, clean water, few people. However, the beach boys are intruding and follow you into the water to offer some stupid things and not useful at all. For example, you cannot get a scooter for a good price neither here nor anywhere close. The white sand is perfect, the veranda is large and with good views so we spent most of the time there. The staff is very polite and well trained. However, at the reception you will get unrealistic high taxi fares. Don't bother to ask. Just find a taxi on the internet. Breakfast is good but not comparable to the standard of the hotel. More fruit at a free choice would be well worth the price. You can get out of the hotel and walk to the village but again there are few places you can buy anything. We managed to buy bananas and mango. Food at the hotel is a limited choice. You have few options and the prices are European or even higher. The food is well presented and some items are delicious. But you are left with the impression that you eat beautiful things at the expense of delicious ones. Don't get me wrong. It is not a bad thing to have a fixed menu but at 35 US pp on Zanzibar it is a robbery. Especially, when you can't eat all this food or you don't like the idea of eating it all. It turned out that we could order only the main, but it was not stated at first and even that was unrealistically high-priced. Later on our vacation we tried other places, some of them offering real good food at reasonable prices so I can compare. The thing is that that you are confined to the hotel for dinner. Due to the tides and lack of a scooter you get yourself at an isolated place. We tried their neighboring hotel for dinner, it was nothing special. The room is spacious and they clean it every day. There is no safe but it is not a problem. There are no windows, only mosquito nets. This tradition is not a problem for me but one day it got cold and rainy and windy. Thank God, there are blankets in the room. The bathroom is large and clean. You will feel relaxed. The place is safe. But somehow having read all these good reviews, I expected more.
