A few friends and I were clamoring for a peaceful, adventurous, and fun getaway after months of isolating and schooling from home. And at Old Forge Camping Resort, that's exactly what we got. We had an outstandingly fun 5 days here in Mid-July 2020. The service was outstanding. Every worker was looked happy to be there and always ready to assist you in any way. The Main Lodge, Cabins, were exceptionally clean and Bathrooms were cleaned regularly, twice a day. We had Cabin #23, which was a perfect spot. The town was also great, as it was only a 20 minute walk from the resort. The town had this charming small-town feel to it that was really refreshing, given that we come from NYC Suburbs in Long Island. Food in the town was great and there are tons of shops with cool items to check out. Nighttime was the most serene, because on a clear night, you can get a full glimpse of the stars above. You can even see the milky way. The lake in the resort was also great, you can swim by the beach, or rent a Canoe or paddle boat for a small charge. The main lodge sold all you would ever need to camp, including Ice, firewood, snacks, batteries, and lots of others. There's also a hiking trail on the resort grounds, which was very nice, it took about 30 mins to get through it all and it was very scenic. We also went Kayaking on the huge lake in the town and hiking up Mount McCauley, both of which were fantastic. Alot of reviews on here were critical of the resort due to the amount of Black Bears in the area, and i don't understand how that is the fault of the resort. Don't get me wrong, you will probably see Bears during your stay. We stayed 5 nights and we saw bears 3 of the 5 nights. But you must understand that when camping, you're in the bears territory. If you have food out, the bear will naturally be attracted to it. The resort gives you a rundown of what not to do to attract bears when you check in, and if you follow those steps, you will be fine. So overall, if you're looking for an affordable camping experience with great service, connect with nature, have some great food in town and enjoy a clean, fun resort with tons to do, you'll love Old Forge Camping Resort. I truly look forward to returning in the near future.

Cottages are very CLEAN and COZY. They are heated with propane and have zero drafts. They are super well insulated. I am amazed how warm they stay even when it is below zero outside and you hardly ever hear the heat turn on. The staff is always friendly and very helpful

Usually my family is one to hit up the beach for summer vacation but this year with all of the quarantining required we decided to stay close(ish) to home and rented a Cottage (4) for a mid-week 3 night getaway and we had several of our friends recommend this resort and it did not disappoint!
The cottage was great, it was clean and well-kept. We went for that over the cabin to have our own bathroom, although the bathrooms seemed very clean. I would highly recommend one of the cottages on the lake, the view is amazing.
The campground is very nice, the main lodge store is nice, the little beach is great, we rented the paddle boat for a trip around the lake and it was all very relaxing and beautiful. You are required to wear a mask in the main lodge and everyone complied. In town as well, it seemed quite busy, we hit up a few stores and restaurants and every single person we saw had a mask on, which was nice made us feel safe. As others have commented about the beds, the mattress is quite thin, luckily we doubled ours as we only had 3 of us and it was OK, but if I were to visit again I would bring a mattress topper. We did have a bear come right through our campsite while we were cooking marshmallows and it stole some of our marshmallows but we chased it away and the staff came to chase it away as well. We had plenty of very friendly ducks, geese, chipmunks and squirrels say hello and get some snacks which was a big highlight for our 5 year old! The staff was very nice. The nature trail all the way around the lake is a fun little hike and there are 2 playgrounds, one on each end of the campground.
Overall I would say it was a great trip and we will definitely visit again!

The resort was pretty good. We stayed in a cabin. It was clean and our site (48) was big enough we could hang out hammocks. They kept the bathrooms very clean. We had people across from us that were very close the first night (it felt like we were camping together), but they were nice and we got along. There’s all sorts of amenities. The mattresses felt like we were sleeping on wood (it was basically a gym mat on wood), so we went and bought an air mattress to put on top of it. The beach is tiny, but Old Forge has a really nice beach right down the road.

Today, on our last night, people across the ravine and several sites down are blaring music so loud I’m pretty sure half the campground can hear it. They are not even in the same part of the campground as us. I’ve been trying to read in my hammock and all I can hear is their party. I can’t even describe how loud it is. I called the office and they said there’s nothing they can do until 10pm. They definitely should consider a noise policy.

Few tips if you come here:
Bring a mattress pad or air mattress
The bathrooms are a pretty decent walk from lots of sites
There’s several sites that are very tiny, some right in the road and sometimes two or three cabins right in the same space. Next time I’m going to pay extra to reserve a specific site (see picture)
Wood is crazy expensive here. There’s boxes in town and also Kinney and the grocery store have wood that’s a much better deal
There’s electric in the cabins and they get stuffy (our back window wouldn’t open), so I’d bring a fan
Follow ALL the bear rules! A bear tried to get in our car, but wasn’t successful. They scratched my handle a bit on my car, but not too bad

I would have given 5 stars up until today. The music is just that loud and obnoxious. The resort not being willing to ask them to turn it down bumped my satisfaction way down

Thank you for taking the time to review our campground. We are happy to hear you enjoyed many things during your stay. The mattresses are standard camping mattresses, often we can arrange an extra mattress for you if needed. Our quiet hours are from 10pm to 8am, and we have security enforce the noise policy during those times. We are glad that you will be returning for another visit, hopefully we can give you that 5* experience next time!

Stayed right after a 2 foot snowfall in January and rented a cottage with a bathroom and small kitchen. Everything was clean, comfortable and convenient. We were able to unload our trailer in front of the cottage and could ride right to the trails. Cottage was incredibly quiet and although there were a lot of other people riding sleds around you never heard any noise while inside. We will return.

A very nice resort, much different from the old KOA days when I was a kid. I always enjoy staying at camp grounds that offer amenities and have good customer service, and visible employees. The only real complaint we had was how small some of the sites tend to be. we had enough room but it was not easy backing into the site. The trees caused us so frustration but nothing that couldn't be managed. Overall the campground is clean, a little noisy at times, primarily the cabin folk who usually are not as experienced as RVers. The lack of any cable or WIFI is a letdown as well which for adults isn't an issue really, but when you have little kids who at times need a distraction it can be hard. I would also make a suggestion for the resort to make a better way for people to be able to fish the lake, it was hard to find good ways to the water without intruding on other campers and their sites, there could be a better general area or some designated paths to the shore.

We have a family of 25 that have gone to OFCR annually, except for last year during the pandemic. Just spent this past weekend there, 4 days. The lodge's men's bathroom smelled so bad, you could smell it on the porch of the main lodge. The bathrooms in the cabin areas were not kept clean, like in the past. The washers and dryers were working at 50%. One of the shower heads were broken and unusable.
The cabins were all very clean and the campsites around the cabins were well kept.
A little money put into maintaining and upgrades of the bathrooms, would go a long ways! Just not the experience we have had in the past.

I called in my reservation to book a specific cabin (which was an extra $10) I booked two nights for what was supposed to be Saturday, October 28-Monday, October 30, but they booked from Friday, October 27, thru Sunday, October 29. We checked in Saturday and noticed the error, granted I missed it on the initial confirmation e-mail, however they refused to just "shift" nights for us.. Our cabin wasn't booked for Sunday night so they said we could pay for an additional night. It wasn't a busy night they could have honored it. It was a mutual mistake. I should have looked closer at the confirmation e-mail and Lisa who booked it could have booked it correctly. The lack of willing to fix this was astounding. The manager wouldn't even come out! I won't be staying there again. $360 for one night there in their most basic cabin with no mini fridge even is totally not worth it.

I cannot say enough about Old Forge Camping Resort! We had a lovely lakeside campsite. The sites were spaced well so that there is plenty of privacy. The staff (especially Elaine, Tony and JW) were amazing! They were kind and helpful when we needed some help due to an injury. They even came by subsequent days to check on us. We have already booked our stay for next year so that we can take advantage of all the activities available there and in the surrounding area. Everyone we met was friendly and kind.

This is the best campground ever. There is so much to do and even though it is big, it's easy to navigate. There is swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle boating, hiking and downtown shopping. The nature is all around you. The staff are super nice and they even drive around delivering necessities from firewood, to ice cream and even beer.

After our 4 day trip (and I wouldn't recommend going for any less than that) the kids were begging to come back and make it a yearly trip.

I hope you have as much fun here as we do!

Blankets, pillows, towels, bath mat or extra towel, toaster, pots and pans, spatulas anything you need to cook with. There is nothing to use in the kitchenette. There is a table and chairs and a picnic table outside. Bring wood for fire pit. The little store has quite a few items if you forget anything and in town too.
